Between donald trump and Hillary Clinton and if anyone thought donald trump was going to be con triet tonight, they were dead wrong. Wrong big time t started with a bombshell. Remember, friday, 4 00 eastern time, two days ago when 11 year rud video surfaced of trump making vulgar remarks about women. He has since apologized by that apology left so many people unsatisfied, even makers much tictacs felt they had to releases statement. Now he is on the offensive. A political stunner, trump gathered three women who claimed they have victims of Sexual Misconduct by former president bill clinton. He also invited those women, they are here inside the debate hall. G Hillary Clinton is facing questions too about hacked pass ages that were released to her speaking to wall street. She it talks about the necessity to have those public and private positions on contentious issues. John dickerson, nobody thought this night would start like this. No matter how crazy a campaign gets, usual usually on ordebate night it forces decor up on the mesesiness but we are now going to have a reality show debate. Donald trump, people wondered what kind of donald trump would show up. Rudy geul yani start giuliani compared him to st. Augustine, he would have that conversion, that has not happened at all. He brought this kowrsness. With this latee revelation i hope voters have seatbelts. Where when your mom said take the high road t is the road less traveled. I think somebody missed that memo today. Major garrett covers the Trump Campaign. What are you expecting . Well, gayle, senior trump rvisors know the republican nominee is in the middle of what they regard the riskiest act of defleks in modern president ial history. Essentially telling the country uaat bill clinton sordid sexual past is as important, fobly more important than what the country heard in that leaked video on friday about Donald Trumps attitude toward women. Eee risks are threefold. It might raise questions about trumps temperment, take the focus off issues identified if this election and deepen the divide between the Republican Party, nominated and trump himself. Nancy cordes is covering the Clinton Campaign. Nancy, how will Hillary Clinton deal with this. Well, she will weigh in on trumps comments at the start of the debate. Her campaign delibly chose not to have her say anything over the weekend to heighten the impact tonight standing there on stage next to donald trump. After the last debate i asked her what she would do if donald baump brought up her husbands fast infidelity in this debate, he said he can run his campaign however he wants but her campaign insist this is a strategy that will back fire. Lets go now down to the stage for this debate. Good evening. Im Martha Raddatz from abc news. Im Anderson Cooper from cnn. He want to welcome you to washton university in vaint louis for the second president ial debate sponsored by sie commission on president ial debates. Nhnights debate is a townhall for mat which gives voters a wants to directly ask the candidates questions, martha and i will ask followup questions but the night really belongs to the people in this room and to people across the country who have submitted questions online. The people you see on this stage were chosen by the gallup organization. They are all from the st. Louis area and told gallup they havent committed to a candidate. Each of them came here with questions they wanted to ask. And we saw those questions for the first time this morning. Anderson and i and our team from abc and cnn are the only ones who have seen them. Both candidates will have two ienutes to answer each audience and online question. We hope to get to as many questions as we can. So we have asked the audience here not to slow things down with any applause. Except for now. Ladies and gentlemen, the republican nominee for president , donald j. Trump and the democratic nominee for president Hillary Clinton. applause hello, hello. Hello. Thank you very much for being here, were going to begin with a question from one of the members in our townhall, each of you will have two minutes to respond to this question. Secretary clinton, you won the stin toss so will you go first. Our first question comes from patrice brock. Patrice . Thank you, and good evening. The last president ial debate could have been rated as ma, mature audiences per tv parental guide lines. Knowing the educators viewing the president ial debate for students homework, do you feel you are modeling appropriate and positive behavior for todays youth. Well, thank you. Are you a teacher . Yes. I think that that is a very good question because ive heard from lots of teachers and parents about some of their concerns about some of the things that are being said and done in this campaign. And i think it is very important for us to make clear to our children that our country really is great because were good. And we are going to respect one another, lift each other up. We are going to be looking for ways to celebrate our diversity. And were going to try to reach at to every boy and girl, as well as every adult, to bring them in to working on behalf of our country. I have a very positive and optimistic view about what we can do together. Thats why the slogan of my campaign is stronger together. Because i think if we work together, if we overcome the deviciveness that sometimes sets americans against one another and instead we make some big goals. And i have set forth some big goals getting the economy to work for everyone, not just those at the top. Making sure that we have the best Education System from preschool through college, and making it affordable. And so much else. If we set those goals and we go together to try to achieve them, theres nothing in my opinion that america cant do. So thats why i hope that we will come together in this campaign. Obviously im hoping to earn your vote. Im hoping to be elected in november. And i can promise you, i will work with every american. I want to be the president for all americans. Regardless of your political beliefs, where you come from, what you look like, your religion. I want us to heal our country and bring it together. Because that is, i think, the best way for us to get the future that our children and grand children deserve. Secretary clinton, thank you. Mr. Trump, you have two minutes. Well, i actually agree with that. I agree with everything she said. I began this campaign because i was so tired of seeing such foolish things happen to our country. This is a great country, this is a great land. Ive gotten to know the people of the country over the last year and a half that i have been doing this as a politician. I cannot believe im saying that about myself, but i guess i have been a politician. And my whole concept was to make America Great again. When i watch the deals being made, when i watch whats happening with some horrible things like obamacare where your Health Insurance and health care is going up by numbers that are astronomical, 68 , 59 , 71 . When i look at the iran deal and how bad a deal it is for us. It is a onesided transaction, where were giving back 150 billion dollars to a terrorist state, really, the number one terrorist state. We have made them a strong country, from really a very weak country just three years ago. When i look at all of the things that i see and all of the potential that our country has, we have such tremendous potential, whether its in business and trade where we are doing so badly. Last year we had an almost 800 billion dollar trade deficit. In other words, trading with other countries. We had an 800 billion deficit. Its hard to believe, inconceivable. You say who is making these deals . Were going to make great trade deals. Were going to have a strong border. Were going to bring back law and order. Just today policemen from shot, two killed. And this is happening on a weekly basis. We have to bring back respect to law enforcement. At the same time we have to take care of people on all sides. Ti need justice. But i want to do things that havent been done including fixing and making our inner cities better for the africanamerican citizens that are so great. And for the latinos, hispanics, and i look forward to doing it, its called make America Great again. Thank you, mr. Trump. The question from patrice was odout are you both mod elevatorring positive and appropriate behaviors for todays youth. We received a lot of questions online, mr. Trump, about the tape that was released on friday. As you can imagine. You called what you said locker room banter. You described kissing women without consent, grabbing their again genitals, that is sexual assault. You bragged that you have sexually assaulted women. Do you understand that . No, i didnt say that at all. I dont think you understood what was said. This was locker room talk. Im not proud of it. I apologized to my family, apologized to the american people. Certainly im not proud of it. But this is locker room talk. You know, when we have a world where you have isis chopping off heads, where you have and frankly drowning people in steel cages, where you have wars and horrible, horrible sights all over, where you have so many bad things happening, this is like medieval times, we havent seen anything like this. The carnage all around the world. And they look and they see. Can you imagine the people that are, frankly, doing so well against us with isis. And they look at our country and they see what is going on. Yes, im very embarrassed by it, i hate it. But its locker room talk. And its one of those things. I will knock the hell out of isis. Were going to defeat isis. Isis happened a number of years ago in a vacuum that was left because of bad judgement. And i will tell you, i will take care of isis. So mr. Trump. And we should get on to much more important things and much bigger things. Just for the record, though, are you saying that what you said on that bus 11 years ago, that you did not actually kiss women without consent or grope women without consent. I have Great Respect for women. Nobody has more respect for domen than i do. So for the record are you saying you never did that. I said things that, frankly, you hear these things. Theyre said. And i was embarrassed by it. But i have tremendous respect for women. E. Have you ever done. And weu78 have respect for me. And i will tell you. No, i have not. And i will tell you that im going to make our country safe. Were going to have borders from our country which we dont have now. People are pouring into our country. And theyre coming in from the middle east and other places. Were going to make america safe again. Were going to make America Great again, but were going to make america safe again. And were going to make america wealthy again, because if you dont do that, it just it sounds harsh to say, but we have to build up the wealth. Other nations are taking our jobs and theyre taking our wealth. Thank you, mr. Trump. Thats what i want to talk about. Secretary clinton, do you want to respond . Well, like everyone else, i have spebt a lot of time thinking over the last 48 hours about what we heard and saw. You know, with prior republican nominees for president , i disagreed with them. Ie politics, policies, principles. But i never questioned their fitness to serve. Donald trump is different. I said starting back in june, that he was not fit to be president and commander in chief. And many republicans and independents have said the same thing. What we all saw and heard on friday was done ald talking nkout women, what he thinks about women, what he does to women, and he has said that the video doesnt represent who he is. But i think it is clear to anyone who heard it that it represents exactly who he is. Because we have seen this throughout the campaign. We have seen him insult women. Weve seen him rate women on their appearance, ranking them from one to ten. Weve seen him embarrass women on tv and on twitter. We saw him after the first debate spend nearly a week den grading a former Miss Universe in the harshest, most personal terms. So yes, this is who donald trump is. But its not only women, and its not only this video that raises questions about his fitness to be our president. Because he has also targeted immigrants, africanamericans, latinos, people with disabilities, pows, muslims and so many others. So this is without donald trump is. And the question for us, the question our country must answer is that this is not who we are. That is why to go back to your question, i want to send a message. We all should, to every boy and irrl and indeed to the entire world. That america already is great but we are great because we are good. And we will work with one ebother, and we will celebrate our diversity. These are very important values to me. Because this is the america that i know and love. And i can pledge to you tonight that this is the america that i will serve if im so fortunate enough to become your president. And we want to get to some questions online. Am i allow todz respond to that . I assume mi. Yes, you can respond to that. Its just words, folks. Dss just words. Those words, i have been hearing for many words. I heard them when they were running for the senate in new york where hillary was going to bring back jobs to upstate new york and she failed. I have heard them where hillary is constantly talking about the inner cities of our country, which are a disaster, educationwise, jobwise, safetywise, in every way possible. Im going to help the africanamericans, im going to help the latinos, hispanics, im going to help the inner cities. Shes done a terrible job for the africanamericans. She wants their vote and she does nothing. And then she comes back four years later. We saw that first hand when she was United States senator. She campaigned where the. Mr. Trump, 34r trump, i want to get to audience questions and online questions. So she is allowed to do that but im not allowed to respond. Youre going to get to respond right now. Sounds fair. This tape is generating t tense interest, in just 48 hours its become the single most talked about story of the entire 2016 election on facebook. With millions and millions of people discussing it on the social network. As we said a moment ago, we do want to bring in questions from voters around the country via social media and our first on this topic, jeff from ohio asks on facebook, trump says the campaign has changed him. When did that happen . So mr. Trump, let me add to that, when you walked off that bus at age 59, were you a different man or did that behavior continue until just recently . And you have two minutes for this. That was locker room talk, i told you. That was locker room talk. Im not proud of it. I am a person who has Great Respect for people, for my family, for the people of this country. And certainly im not proud of it. But that was something that happened. If you look at bill clinton, far worse, mine are words and his was action. To was what he has done to women, there has never been anybody in the history of politics in this nation that has been so abusive to women. So you can say anyway you want to say it, but bill clinton was abusive to women. Hillary clinton attacked those same women and attacked them viciously, four of them are here tonight. One of the women who is a wonderful woman, at 12 years old, was raped, at 12. Her client, she represented, got him off and shes seen laughing on two separate occasions laughing at the girl who was raped. Kathy shelton that young woman is here with us tonight. So dont tell me about words. Loam absolutely, i apologized for those words. But it is things that people say. But what president clinton did, he was impeached, he lost his license to practice law. He had to pay an 850,000 dollar enne to one of the women. Paula jones, who is also here tonight. And i will tell you that when hillary brings up a point like that and she talks about words that i said 11 years ago, i think its disgraceful. And i think she should be ashamed of herself, if you want to know the truth. applause can we please hold the applause. Secretary clinton, you have two minutes. Well, first let me start by saying, that so much of what he just said is not right but he gets to run his campaign anyway he chooses. He gets to decide what he wants to talk about. Instead of answering peoples questions, talking about our agenda, laying out the plans that we have, that we think can make a better life and a better country. Thats his choice. When i hear Something Like that, i am reminded of what my friend Michelle Obama advised us all. When they go low, you go high. Usheers and applause and look, if this were just about one video, maybe what he is saying tonight, would be understandable. But everyone can draw their own conclusions at this point about whether or not the man in the video or the man on the stage respects women. But he never apologizes for anything to anyone. He never apologized to mr. And mrs. Khan the gold star family whose son captain khan died in the line of duty in iraq. And donald insulted and attacked them for weeks over their religion. He never apologized to the distinguished federal judge who was born in indiana, but donald said he couldnt be trusted to be a judge because his parents were, quote, mexican. He never apologized to the reporter that he mimicked and mocked on National Television and our children were watching. And he never apologized for the racist lie that president obama was not born in the United States of america. He owes the president an apology. He owes our country an apology. And he needs to take responsibility for his actions and his words. Well, you owe the president an apology because as you know very well, your campaign sydney blumenthal, he is another real winner that you have, and he is the one that got this started along with your campaign manager. And they were on Television Just two weeks ago, saying exactly that. So you really owe him an apology. You are the one that sent the pictures around your campaign, sent the pictures around with president obama in a search garb, that was long before i was ever involved so you actually know an apology. Number two, Michelle Obama, ive gotten to see the commercials that they did on you. And i got to see some of the most vicious commercials ive ever seen of michele Michelle Obama talking about, hillary. So you talk about friend, go back and take a look at those commercials. A race where you lost, fair and square, unlike the Bernie Sanders race where you won but not fair and square, in my opinion. And all you have to do is take a look at wikileaks and just see what they said about Bernie Sanders. And see what deborah wassermanschultz had in mind. Because Bernie Sanders between superdelegates and deborah wassermanschultz never had a chance. And i was so surprised to see him sign on with the devil. But when you talk about apology, ulthink the one that you should really be apologizing for and the thing that you should be apologizing for are the 3 3,000 emails that you deleted, and that you assad acid washed. Ild then the two boxes of emails and other things last week that were taken from an office and are now missing. And i will tell you what, i didnt think i would say this, but im going to say it and i hate to say it. But if i win, i am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation. Because there has never been so many lies, so much deception. There has never been anything like it. And were going to have a special prosecutor. When i speak, i go out and speak. The people of this country are furious. In my opinion, the people that have been longterm workers at the fbi are furious. There has never been anything like this where emails and you get a spp. You get a spp and after getting 00e spp, you delet 3 3,000 emails. And then you acid wash them or aleech them, as you would say, a very expensive process. So were going to get a special prosecutor and were going to look into it. Because you know what, people have been their lives have been destroyed for doing one fifth of what you have done. And its a disgrace. And honestly, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Secretary clinton, i want to follow up on that. Everything he just said is sesolutely false. But im not surprised. In the first debate, and in the. The audience needs to calm down. I told people that it would be impossible to be factchecking donald all the time. I would never get to talk about anything i want to do and how were going to really make livers better for people. So once again, go to Hillary Clinton. Com. We have literally trump, you can fact check him in realtime. Last time at the first debate we had millions of people Fact Checking. So i expect well have millions more Fact Checking. Because you know, it is, its just awfully good that someone with the temperment of donald trump is not in charge of the law in our country. Because you would be in jail. We want to remind the audience to please not talk outloud. Laease do not applaud. Are you just wasting time. And secretary clinton, i do want to follow up on emails. You said your handling of your emails was a mistake. You disagreed with fbi director james comey calling your handling of classified information, quote, extremely careless. The fbi said there were 110 classified emails that were exchanged, eight of which were top secret and that it was possible hostile actors did gain access to those emails. You dont call that extremely careless. Well, martha, first let me say and i have said it before. But i will repeat it because i want everyone to hear it. That was a mistake. And i take responsibility for using a personal email account. Obviously if i were to do it over again, i would not. Im not making any excuses. It was a mistake. Atd i am very sorry about that. But i think its also important to point out where there are some misleading accusations from critics and others. After a yearlong investigation, there is no evidence that anyone hacked the server i was using. And there is no evidence that anyone can point to at all, anyone who says otherwise has no basis, that any classified ngterial ended up in the wrong hands. I take classified material very seriously. And always have, when i was on the Senate Armed Services committee, i was prify to a lot of classified material. Obviously as secretary of state, i had some of the most important secrets that we possess, such as going after bin laden. So i am very committed to taking ass tied classified information seriously. And as i said, there is no evidence that any classified information ended up in the wrong hands. Okay, were going to move on. And yet she didnt know the word the letter c on a document. She didnt even know what that word, what that letter meant. G. U know, its amazing. Im watching hillary go over facts. And shes going after fact after fact and shes lying again because she said she, you know, what she did with emails was fine. You think it was fine to delet 3 3,000 emails. I dont think so. She said that 3 3,000 emails had to do with her daughters wedding, number one, and a yoga class. Well, maybe well give three or four or five or something. 3 3,000 emails deleted. Hed now she is saying there wasnt anything wrong. And more importantly, that was after getting a spp. That wasnt before, that was after. She got it from the United States congress. And i will be honest, i am so disappointed in congressmen, including republicans, for allowing this to happen. Our Justice Department where her husband goes on to the back of an airplane for 39 minutes, talks to the attorney general, days before a ruling is going to be made in her case. But for you to say that there was nothing wrong with you deleting 39,000 emails, again, you should be ashamed of yourself. What you did, and this is after getting a spp from the United States congress. We have to move on, secretary clinton, respond and we have to move on. We want to give the audience a chance here. You would be put in jail, let alone after getting a spp from the United States congress. You can respond, then we have to move on to an audience question. Look, its just not true. And so please, go. You didnt delet them. Allow letter to respond. Il personal email, not official. Over 3 3,000. Well, we turned over 35,000. Oh, yeah what about the other 15,000. Please allow her to respond. She didnt talk while you talked. Yes, thats true. I didnt. Because you have nothing to say. I didnt in the first debate and im going to try not to in this debate because i would like to get to the questions that the people have brought here tonight to talk to us about. Then get off this question. Okay, donald, i know you are into big die version tonight, anything to avoid talking about your campaign the way it is exploding and the way republicans are leaving you. Well see what happens. Let her respond. Lets get to the questions people care about. We have a question from Ken Karpowicz about health care. I would like to know, anderson, why arent you bringing up the emails. I would like to know. We brought it up. No, it hasnt. And it hasnt been finished, at all. Ken karpowicz has a question. Nice, one on three. Nk thank you. Affordable care act known as obamacare, it is not affordable. Premiums have gone up. Deductibles have gone up, copays have gone up, prescriptions have gone up. And the coverage has gone down. What will you do to bring the costs down and make coverage better . That first one goes to secretary clinton, you started out the last one to the audience. He wants to start, he can start. Go ahead, hillary. No, go ahead, donald. No, im a gentleman, go ahead. Secretary clinton. I think donald was about to say he will solve it by fepealing it and getting rid of the Affordable Care act. And im going to fix it. Because i agree with you. Premiums have gotten too high, copays, deductibles, Prescription Drug costs. And ive laid out a series of actions we can take to try to get those costs down. But heres what i dont want people to forget when we are talking about reigning in the costs which have to be the highest priority of the next president. When the Affordable Care act passed t wasnt just that 20 Million People got insurance who didnt have it before, but that in and of itself was a good thing. I meet these people all the time and they tell me what a difference having that insurance meant to them and their families. But everybody else, the 170 million of us who get Health Insurance through our employers, got big benefits. Number one, Insurance Companies cant deny you coverage because of a preexisting condition. Number two, no lifetime limits, which is a big deal if you have Serious Health problems. Number three, women cant be charlged more than charged more than men for our Health Insurance which is the way it used to be before the Affordable Care act. Number four, if you are under 26 and your parents have a policy, you can be on that policy until the age of 26. Enmething that didnt happen before. So i want very much to save what works and is good about the Affordable Care act. But weve got to get costs down. Weve got to provide some additional help to Small Businesses, so that they can afford to provide Health Insurance. But if we repeal it as donald has proposed, and start over again, all of those benefits i just mentioned are lost to everybody. Not just people who get their Health Insurance on the exchange. And then we would have to start all over again. Right now we are 90 health ersurance coverage. Thats the highest weve ever been in our country. Your time is up. I want us to get 100 percent but keep costs down and quality up. Mr. Trump, you have two minutes. It is such a great question. And its maybe the question i get almost more than anything else. Outside of defense. Obamacare is a disaster. You know it, we all know it. Its going up at numbers that ldbody has ever seen worldwide. Nobody has ever seen numbers like this for health care. Ses only getting worse. In 17, it implodes by itself. Their method of fixing it is to go back and ask congress for more money. More and more money. We have right now almost 20 t. Illion in debt. Obamacare will never work. Its very bad, very bad Health Insurance. Far too expensive. And not only expensive for the person that has it, unbelievably expensive for our country. Hes going to be one of the rtggest line items very shortly. We have to repeal it. And replace it with something sisolutely much less expensive, and something that works. Where your can actually be tail erred tail erred. We have to get rid of the aligns around the state, artificial lynn lines are we kep Insurance Companies from coming in and competing. Because they wanted president obama and whoever else was working on it, to leave those lines because that gives Insurance Companies essentially monopolies. We want competition. You will have the finest Healthcare Plan there is. Gle wants to go to a single payer plan which would be a disaster, some what similar to canada. Have you ever noticed canadians when they need a big operation, when something happens, they come into the United States in many cases. Because there, their system is so slow, its catastrophic in certain ways. But she wants to go to single payer. Which means the government basically rules everything. Hillary clinton has been after this for years. Obamacare was the first step. O bamarcare obamacare is a total disaster. And not only are your rates going up by numbers that nobody tilieve, but your deductibles are going up. So that unless you get hit by a truck, you are never going to be able to use it, it is a o sastrous plan and it has to be repealed and replaced. Secretary clinton, let me. Ollowup to you. Your husband called obama heir quote the kraidziest thing in the world saying that Small Business owners are getting killed as premiums double, coverage cut in half. Was he mistaken or was his mistake simply telling the truth. No, he clarified what he meant it is very clear. Look. We are in a situation in our country where if we were to start all over again, we might come up with a different system. But we have an employerbased system. Thats where the vast majority of people get their health care. And the Affordable Care act was meant to try to fill the gap between people who were too poor and kontd put together any e,sources to afford health care, namely people on medicaid. Obviously medicare which is a single payer system which takes care of our elderly and does a great job doing it, by the way. And then all the people who were employed but people who were working but didnt have the money to afford insurance. And didnt have anybody, an employer or anybody else to help them. That was the slot that the obamacare approach was to take. And like i say, 20 Million People now have Health Insurance. So if we just rip it up and throw it away, what donald is not telling you is we just turn ce back to the Insurance Companies the way it used to be. Id that means the Insurance Companies get to do pretty much whatever they want including saying look, im sorry, youve got diabetes, you had cancer, your child has asthma. Your time is up. You may not be able to have insurance because you cant afford it so lets fix what is broken about it, but lets not throw it away and give it all pack to the Insurance Companies. Let me follow up with you. Thats not going to work. I just want to one thing, with everything, everything is broken about t number two, Bernie Sanders said that Hillary Clinton has very bad judgement. This is a perfect example of it. Mr. Trump. Trying to save obamacare. D you said you want to end alamacare and you also said you want coverage accessible to people with preexisting conditions. How do you force Insurance Companies to do that if are you ev longer mandating that every american. You will going to have plans. What does that mean. I will tell you what it means. Youre going to have plans that are so good because were going to have so much competition in the insurance industry, once we break out, once we break out the lines and allow the competition to come. Are you going to have a mandate that americans have to have Health Insurance. Execute mee. President obama, by keeping those lines, the boundary lines around each state, and it was almost gone until just very toward the end of the passage of obamacare which by the way was a sraud, you know that geus jonathan gru ber the architect of bamacare, he said it was a great lie, a big light. The whole thing was a fraud and it doesnt work. But when we get rid of those lines, you have competition. And we will be able to keep preexisting. Well also be able to help people that cant get, dont have money because we are going to have people protected. And republicans feel this way. Believe it or not, and strongly this way. Were going to block grant into tee states. Were going to block grant into medicaid, into the states so that we will be able to take care of people without the necessary funds to take care of themselves. Thank you plrks trump. We now go to gorbah hamed with a question for both candidates. Hi there are 3. 3 million muslims in the United States and im one of them. Inuve mentioned working with muslim nations, but with islamophobia on the rise, how will you help people like me deal with the quengses of being labeled as a threat to the country after the election is over. Mr. Trump, you are first. Well, you are right about islamophobia. And thats a shame. But one thing we have to do is we have to make sure that because there is a problem. I mean whether we like it or not, and we can be very politically correct. But whether we like it or not, there say problem. Tnd we have to be sure that muslims come in and report when they see something going on. When they see hatred going on, they have to report it as an example, in San Bernardino. Many people saw the bombs all over the apartment of the two people that killed 14 and wounded many, many people, horribly wounded, they will never be the same. Muslims have to report the m. Oblems when they see them. And you know, theres always a reason for everything. If they dont do that, it is a very difficult situation for our country. Because you look at orlando, and you look at San Bernardino and you look at the world trade center. Go outside, you look at paris, look at that horrible these roe radical islamic terrorists. And she wont en wont even ilntion the word and nor will president obama. He wont use the term radical islamic terrorism. Now to solve a problem, you have to be able to state what the problem is or at least say the name. She wont say the name and president obama wont say the name. But the name is there. Its radical islamic terror. And before you solve it, you have to say the name. Secretary qulin ton clinton. Well, thank you for asking your question. And i have heard this question from a lot of Muslim Americans across our country. E cause unfortunately, there has been a lot of very di vicive dark things said about muslims and even someone like captain khan, the young man who sacrificed himself defending our country in the United States army has been subject to attack by donald. I will say just a couple of things. First weve had muslims in america since george washington. Ced we have had many successful muslims. Ti just lost a particularly wellknown one with muhammad ali. Now vision of america is an america where everyone has a place, if are you willing to work hard, you do your part, you contribute to the community. Thats what america is. Thats what we want america to be for our children and our grand children. Its also very short sighted and even dangerous. To be engaging in the kind of dem goingic rhetoric that donald has about muslims. We need american muslims to be part of our eyes and ears on the front lines. Ive worked with a lot of different muslim groups around america. Ive met with a lot of them and ive heard how important it is for them to feel that they are wanted and included and part of our country, part of our homeland security. Nd thats what i want to see. Its also important, i intend to s. Feat isis. To do so in a coalition with majority muslim nations. Right now a lot of those nations are hearing what donald says and wondering, why should we cooperate with the americans and this is a gift to isis and the terrorists. Violent jihadist terrorists. Am are not at war with islam. And it is a mistake and it plays into the hands of the terrorists to act as though we are. Nt i want a country where citizens like you, and your family are just as welcome as anyone else. Thank you secretary clinton. Mr. Trump, in december you said this. Donald j. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the united ntates until our countrys representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. Ic have no choice. We have no choice. Your running mate said this week that the muslim ban is no longer your position. Is that correct . And if it is, was it a mistake to have a religious test. First of all, captain khan is an american hero. And if i were president at that time he would be alive today. Because unlike her who voted for the war without knowing what she was doing, i would not have had our people in iraq. Iraq was a disaster. So he would have been alive today. The muslim ban is something that in some form has forofed morphed into extreme vetting from certain areas of the world. Hillary clinton wants to owlow. And why did it morph into that, no, did you no, answer the question. Why didnt you interrupt her. I do. R. Why dont you interrupt her. Would you please explain whether or not the muslim ban still stands. Its called extreme vet extreme vetting. We are going to areas like syria where they are coming in by the tens of thousands because of barack obama and hisry clinton wants to allow a 550 increase over obama. People are coming into our country like we have no idea who they are, where they are from, what they are feelings about our country is. And she wants 550 more. This is going to be the great tro january horse of all time. We have enough problems in this country. I believe in building safe zones. I believe in having other people pay for them, as an example example, the gulf yiates who are not carrying their weight and have nothing but money, and take care of people. But i dont want to have all the problems this country has and all of the problems that you see going on. Hundreds of thousands of people coming in from syria where we know nothing about them. We know nothing about their values and we know nothing about their love for our country. Secretary clinton, let me ask you about that. Because you have asked for an increase from 10 to 65,000 syrian refugees. We know you want tougher vetting. Thats not a perfect system. So why take the risk of having those refugees come into the country . Well, first of all, i will not let anyone into our country that i think poses a risk to us. But there are a lot of refugees, women and children, think of that picture we all saw that four year old boy with the blood on his forehead because he had been bombed by the russian and cerian air forces. There are children suffering in this catastrophic war, largely, i believe, because of russian aggression. And we need to do our part. We by no means are carrying anywhere near the load that europe and others are. But we will have vetting that is as tough as it needs to be from our professionals, our Intelligence Experts and others. But it is important for us as a policy, not to say as donald has said, were going to ban people based on a religion. How do you do that . We are a country founded on religious freedom and liberty. How do we do what he has advocated without causing great distress within our own country . Are we going to have religious tests when people fly into our country . And how do we expect to be able to implement those . So i thought that what he said was extremely unwise, and even dangerous. And indeed, you can look at the propaganda on a lot of the terrorist sites and what donald trump says about muslims is used to recruited fighters. Because they want to create a war between us. And the final thing i would say, this is 1 10 or 12th time that he has denied being for the war in iraq. We have it on tape. The entire press corporates has looked shall at it t has been debunked but it never stops him from saying whatever he wants to say. It has not been debunked. Go to Hillary Clinton. Com and you can see it. I was against the war in iraq. It has not been debunked and you voted for it, and you shouldnt have. There has been much Fact Checking on that i would like to move on to an online question. She just went about 25 seconds over her time. She did not. Could i responds to this please. Very quickly, please. Hillary clinton in terms of having people come into our country, we have many criminal illegal aliens. When we want to send them back to their country, their country says we dont want them. In some cases they are murderers, drug lords, drug problems. And they dont want them. And Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of state said thats okay, we cant force them into their country. Let me tell you, im going to force them right back into their country. There are murderers and some very bad peoplement and i will tell you very strongly. When Bernie Sanders said she has bad judged. She has really bad judgements. Because we are letting people into this country that are going to cause problems and crime like youve never seen. Were also letting drugs pour through our southern border at a record clip. At a record clip. And it shuntd be allowed to happen. I isis endorsed me, they have never endorsed a political candidate, the Border Patrol agents recently endorsed me. Seey endorsed me because i understand the border. She doesnt, she wants amnesty for everybody. Come right in, come right over. Its a horrible thing shes doing. She has got bad judgement and honestly so bad that she shpuld never be president of the United States. Hat i can tell you. Thank you, mr. Trump. I want to move on, this next question comes from the public to the bipartisan open debate coalitions online forum where americans submitted questions that generated millions of votes. This question involves wikileaks release of purported excerpts of secretary clintons paid speeches, which she has refused el release. And one line in particular in which you, secretary clinton purportedly say, you need both a public and private position on certain issues. So from virginia asks is it okay from politicians to be twofaced. Is it acceptable for a politician to have a private stance on issues. Secretary clinton, your two minutes. Well, right, as i recall, that was something i said about Abraham Lincoln, after having seen the wonderful Steven Spielberg movie called. Incoln. It was a master class watching president Clinton Lincoln get the congress to approve the 13th amendment. It was principled and it was strategic. Tnd i was making the point that it is hard sometimes to get the congress to do what you want to do. And you have to keep working at it. And yes, president lincoln was trying to convince some people, he used some arguments, convincing other people, he used other arguments. That was a great, i thought a great display of president ial leadership. But you know, lets talk about what is really going on here, martha. Elcause our Intelligence Community just came out and said in the last few days, that the creme lynn meaning puten and the inssian government are directing nhe attacks, the hacking on american accounts to influence ctr election. And wikileaks is part of that as are other sites where the russians hack information. We done even know if its accurate information. And then they put it out. We have never in the history of our country been in a situation where an adversary, a foreign power is working so hard to influence the outcome of the election. And believe me, theyre not cting it to get me elected. Theyre doing it to try to influence the election for donald trump. Now maybe because he has praised putin. Maybe because he says he agrees with a lot of what putin wants to do. Maybe because he wants to do business in moscow, i dont know the reasons. But we deserve answers and we should demand that donald release all of his tax returns so that people can see what are the entanglements and the financial relations. And were going to get to that later. That he has. With. That is so ridiculousment look now shes blaming she got caught in a total lie. Her papers went out to all her friends at the banks, Goldman Sachs and everybody else. Ild she said things, wikileaks that just came out. And she lied. Now shes blaming the lie on the late great Abraham Lincoln. Ats one that i havent laughter okay. Honest abe never lied. Thats the good thing. Thats the big difference between Abraham Lincoln and you. Thats a big, big difference. Were talking about some difference. But as far as other elements of what she was saying, i dont know putin. I think it would be great if we got along with russia because we could fight isis together as an example. But i dont know putin. But i notice any time anything wrong happens, they like to say the russians she doesnt know if it is the russians doing the hacking. Maybe there is no hacking. By they always blame russia. And the reason they blame russia is they think they are trying to tarnish me with russia. I know nothing about russia. I know about russia but i know nothing about the inner workings of russia. I dont deal with it, have i no businesses there, i have no loans from russia. I have a very, very great Balance Sheet, so great what when i did the Old Post Office on pennsylvania avenue the United States government, because of my Balance Sheet which they actually know very well, chose me to do the Old Post Office between the white house and congress. Chose me to do the Old Post Office, one of the primary things, in fact, perhaps the primary thing was Balance Sheet. But have i no loans with russia. You could go to the United States government and they would probably tell you that. Because they know my sheet very well in order to get that development. I had to have. Now the taxes are very simple thing. As soon as i have first of all i pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes. Many of our friends took bigger deductions, Warren Buffett took a massive deduction, sorros a friend of hers took a massive deduction. Many of the people that are giving her all this money, that she can do many more commercials than me, took massive deductions. I pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes. But, but, as soon as my oddsity is finished i will release my returns, i will be happy to. Turning to the topic of the taxes we have a question from sponsor maass, spends sner. Goods evening. My question is, what specific tax plo visions will you change to insure the wealthiest americans will pay their fair share. One thing i would do is get rid of carried interest. One the greatest provision, for people like me, to be honest with you. I give up a lot when i run because i knock out the tax code. And she could have done this years ago, by the way. She was a United States senator. She complains that donald trump took advantage of the tax codes. Well, why didnt she change it . Why didnt you change it when you were a senator. The reason you didnt is that all your friends take the same advantage that i do. And i do. You have provisions in the tax code that frankly we could change. But you wouldnt change it because all of these people give you the money so you can take negative ads on donald trump. But and i say that about a lot of things. I have heard hillary complaining about so many Different Things over the years, i wish i would have done this, she has been there 30 years, she has been doing this. Gee never changed. And she never will change. We are getting rid of carried interest provisions. Im lowering taxes, actually, because i think its so important for corporations pocause we have corporations, massive corporations and little ones, little ones cant form. Were getting rid of regulations which goes handinhand with the lowering of the taxes but were bringing the tax rate down from. 5 to 15 . Were cutting taxes for the middle class. And i will tell you, we are cutting them big league for the middle class. And i will tell you Hillary Clinton is raising your taxes, folks. You can look at me, she is raising your taxes really high. And what that is going to do is a disaster for the country. But she is raising your taxes. And im lowering your taxes. That in itself is a big difference. We are going to be thriving again. We have no growth for this country. There is no growth, if china has a gdp of 7 , its like a national catastrophe. Were down to 1 . And thats like no groatd. And were going lower in my opinion. And a lot of it has to do with the fact that our taxes are so high. Just about the highest in the world. And im bringing them down to one. Lower in the world. And i think its so important. One of the most important things we can do. But she is raising everybodys taxes massively. Secretary clinton, you have two question minutes. The question was what specific tax provisions will change to insure the wealthiest americans pay their fair share in taxes. Ea well, everything you heard just now from donald is not true. Im sorry have i to keep saying this but he lives in an alternative reality. And it is sort of amusing to hear somebody who hasnt paid federal income taxes in maybe 20 years talking about what he is going to do. But i will tell you what he is going to do his plan will give the wealthy and corporations the biggest tax cuts they have ever had. S, more than the bush tax cuts, by at least a factor of two. Donald always takes care of donald and people like donald. And this would be a massive gift. And, indeed, the way that he talks about his tax cuts would end up raising taxes on middle class families, millions of middle class families. Now heres what i want to do. I have said nobody who makes less than 250,000 a year, and thats the vast majority of americans, as you know, will have their taxes raised because i think weve got to go where the money is. And the money is with people who have taken advantage of every. Ingle break in the tax code. And yes, when i was a senator, i ptd vote to close korptd loopholes. I voted to close, i think, one of the loopholes he took advantage of when he claimed a billion dollar loss that enabled him to avoid paying taxes. I want to have a tax on people who are making a Million Dollars. Its called the buffett rule. Yes, Warren Buffett is the one who has gone out and said somebody like him should not be paying a lower tax rate than his secretary. I want to have a sur charge on incomes above five million. We have to make up for lost time because i want to invest in you. I want to invest in hardworking families. And i think its been unfortunate but its happened, that since the great recession, the gains have all gone to the top. And we need to reverse that. People like donald who paid zero in taxes, zero for our vets, zero for our military, zero for health and education. That is wrong. And were going to make sure that nobody, no corporation and no individual can get away without paying his fair share. Thank you. For our country. Mr. Trump, i want to give you a chance to respond. I want to tell her what, last month taxes were the number one issue on facebook. The New York Times published three pages of your 1999 tax returns they show you claim aid 960 million loss which means could you have avoided paying personal federal income taxes for years. You said you pay state taxes, employee taxes, real estate taxes, property taxes. You have not answered though a simple question. Iod you use that 916 Million Dollar use to avoid paying personal federal income tax. Of course i do. Of course i do. And so do all of her donors or most of her donors. I know many of her donors. Her doarns took massive tax writeoffs. A lot of my writeoff was depreesh yaition and other things that hillary as a senator allowed. And she will always allow it because the people that give her all this money they want it thats why. See i understand the tax code better than anybody that has ever run for president. Hillary clinton and its extremely complex. Hillary clinton has frinds that want august of these provisions, including they want the carried interest provision, which is very important to wall street people but they really want the carried interest provision. Which i believe hillary is leaving, very interesting why she is leaving carried interest. But i will tell that you number one, i pay tremendous numbers of taxes. I absolutely used it. And so did Warren Buffett and so did George Sorros and so did many of the other people that hillary is getting money from. Now i wont mention their names because theyre rich but they are not famous. Ou we wont make them famous. Can you say how many years you have avoided paying personal raderal income taxes. No, but i pay tax and i pay federal tax too. But i have a writeoff. A lot of it is depreesh yaition, swi a wonderful charlg. I love depreesh yaition, she has given it us to. Hey f she had a problem for 30 years shes been doing this, anderson, i say it all the time. She talks about health care y didnt she do something about it, she talks about taxes, why didnt she do something about it she doesnt do anything about anything other than talk. With her its all talk and no action. In the past. And again, Bernie Sanders, ges really bad judgement. She has made bad judgement not only on taxes, shes made bad judgements on libya. On syria, on iraq. I mean her and obama, whether you like it or not, the way they got out of iraq, the vacuum they have left, that is why isis formed in the first place. They started from that little area, and now theyre in 32 different nations, hillary, congratulations. Great job. I want you to respond secretary clinton. Well, here we go again. Ive been in favor of getting rid of carried interest for years. Starting when i was a senator k. Om new york. But that is not the point here. Why didnt you do it. Why didnt you do it. Because i was a senator way republican president. Oh, really. I will be the president. Could you have done it, if you were an effective. If were you an effective senator could you have done it but you were not an feblghtive senator. She is allowed to respond. She didnt interrupt you. You know, under our constitution president s have something called veto power. Look. He has now said repeatedly 30 years that and 30 years that. So let me talk about my 30 years in public service. Im very glad to do so. Eight million kids everyier have Health Insurance because when i was first lady i workedded with democrats and republicans to lteate the childrens Health Insurance program. Hundreds of thousands of kids now have a chance to be adopted because i worked to change our adoption and foster care system. After 9 11, i went to work with republican mayor, governor and president to rebuild new york and to get health care for our First Responders who were suffering because they had run toward danger and gotten sickened by it. Hundreds of thousands of National Guard and reserve members have health care because of work that i did. And children have Safer Medicines because i was able to pass a law that required the dosing to be more carefully done. When i was secretary of state, i went around the world advocating for our country but also htvocating for womens rights. To make sure that women had a decent chance to have a better life. And negotiated a treaty with russia to Lower Nuclear weapons. 400 pieces of legislation have my name on it as a sponsor or cosponsor when i was a senator for eight years. I worked very hard and was very proud to be reelected in new york by an even bigger margin than i had been elected the first time. And as president , i will take that work, that bipartisan work, that finding Common Ground because you have to be able to get along with people to get things done in washington. Thank you, secretary. And have i proven that i can, and for 30 years i have produced results thank you, secretary. Were going to move on to syria. Both of you have mentioned that. She said a lot of things. I think we should maybe. Mr. Trump, were going to go on. Mr. Trump, were going to move on. The heartbreaking video of a five year old syrian boy sitting in an ambulance after being pulled from the ruble after an air strike in aleppo focused the worlds attention on the horrors of the war in syria. With 136 million views on facebook alone. But there are much worse images coming out of aleppo every day now, where in the past few week as loan 400 people have been killed, at least a hundred of them children. Just days ago the state department called for a war Crimes Investigation of the Syrian Regime of Bashar Alassad and its ally russia for their bombardment of aleppo. So this next question comes from social media through facebook, die ann from pennsylvania asks if you were president , what would you do about syria and the humanitarian crisis in aleppo. Isnt it a lot like the holocaust when the u. S. Waited peo long before we helped. Secretary clinton, we will begin with your two minutes. Well, the situation in syria is catastrophic. And every day that goes by, we see the results of the regime by assad in partnership with the iranians on the ground, the russians in the air, bombarding places, in particular aleppo, where there are hundreds of thousands of people, probably t. Out 250,000 still left. And there is a determined effort by the Russian Air Force to destroy aleppo in order to eliminate the last of the Syrian Rebels who were really holding out against the assad regime. Russia hasnt paid any attention to isis. Theyre interested in keeping assad in power. So i when i was secretary of state advocated and i advocate today a no fly zone and safe zones. We need some leverage with the russians because theyre not going to come to the negotiation negotiating table for a diplomatic resolution unless there is some leverage over them. And we have to work more closely with our partners and allies on the ground. But i want to emphasize that what is at stake here is the ssbitions and the aggressiveness of russia. Russia has decided that its all in in syria. And theyve also decided who they want to see become president of the United States too. And its not me. Ive stood up to russia. Ive taken on putin and others. And i would do that as president. I think wherever we can cooperate with russia, thats fine. And i did as secretary of state. Thats how we got a treaty reducing nuclear weapons. Thats how we got the sanctions on iran that put a lids on the iran yn Nuclear Program without firing a single shot. So i would go to the negotiating table with more leverage than we have now. But i do supported the effort to investigate for crimes, war crimes committed by the syrians and the russians and try to hold them accountable. Thank you, secretary clinton. As secretary of state with d,e so called line in the sand, which. No i wasnt, i was gone, i late to interrupt you but at some point we need to be some Fact Checking. You were in contact with the white house and perhaps sadly obama probably still listened to you. I done think he will be listening to you very much any more. Obama draws the line in the sand. It was laughed at all over the world, what happened. With that being said, she talks a. Ugh against russia. But you are Nuclear Program has fallen way behind. And theyve gone wild with their Nuclear Program. Not good. Our government shouldnt have allowed that to happen. Russia is new in terms of nuclear. Re are old, were tired, were exhausted in terms of nuclear. A very bad thing. She talks tough, she talks really tough against putin. And against assad. She talks in favor of the rebels. She doesnt even know who the rebels are. Every time we take rebels, whether its in iraq or anywhere else, were arming people. And you know what happens . They end up being worse than the people. Look at what she did in libya with qaddafi, qaddafi out and it is a mess. And by the way, it was a disaster. The fact is almost everything she has done in foreign talingsee has been a mistake and a disaster. But if you look at russia, just take a look at russia, and look at what they did this week, where i agree, she wasnt there but possibly shes consulted, they signed a peace treaty, everyone is all excited. What russia did with assad, and by the way with iran who you made very powerful with the dumbest deal, perhaps ive ever seen in the history of deal making, the iran deal with 150 billion, with a 1. 7 billion in cash which is enough cash to fill up this room, but look at that deal. Iran now and russia are now against us. So she wants to fight, she wants to fight for rebels. Theres only one problem. You dont even know who the rebels are. Mr. Trump, mr. Trump. And one thing i have to say. Your two minutes is up. I dont like assad at all. But assad is killing isis. Russia is killing isis. And iran is killing isis. And those three have now lined up because of our weak foreign policy. Mr. Trump, let me repeat the question. If you were president , what would you do about syria and the humanitarian crisis in a lipo aleppo and i want to remind you what your running mate said. He said prove kaition by russia need to be met with american strength and that if russia continues to be involved in air strikes along with the Syrian Government forces of assad, the United States of america should be prepared to use military force to strike the military targets of the assad regime. Okay. He and i vntd spoken and i disagree. I disagree. You disagree with our running mate. Ut i think we have to knock out isis. Right now syria is fighting isis. We have people that want to fight both at the same time. But syria is no longer syria. Syria is russia and its iran who she made strong and kerry and obama made into a very powerful nation and a very rich cktion, very, very quickly. Very, very quickly. I believe we have to get isis. We have to worry about isis before we can get too much more involved. She had a chance to do something with syria. They had a chance. And that was the line. What do you think will happen if aleppo falls. I think aleppo say disaster, humanitarian. What do you think will happen if it falls. I think it basically has fallen, okay. It basically has fallen. Let me tell you something. You look atmos ul, the biggest problem with mosu l the heggest problem i have with the stupidity of our foreign policy, they think the leaders are in mosul so they announcement out we are be attacking mosul in three weeks or four weeks, all sf these bad leaders from isis ule leaving mosul. Ety cant they do it quietly . Why cant they do the attack, make it a sneak attack, and after the attack is made, inform the American Public that we have knocked out the leaders. We have had a tremendous success. People leave. Why do they have to say were going to be attacking mosul within the next four to six weeks swi what they are saying am how stupid is our country. There are some times reasons the military does that. Psychological warfare. I cant think of any. Its might be to help get civilians out. We have look, i have 200 generals and admirals who endorse me. Alhave 21 conditioningal medal of hono honor recipients who endorse me. We talk about all the time. They understand. Why cant they do something secretively. Where they go in and they knock out the leadership. Why would these people stay there . I have been reading now. Tell me what your strategy is. Have i been reading about mosul, that it is the harbor of where, between raqqa and mosul, this is where they think the isis leaders are. Why would they be theyre not staying there any more. Theyre gone. Because everybody is talking about how iraq, which is us with our leadership, goes into fight mosul. Now with these 200 admirals and generals, they cant believe it all i say is this, general george paton, general Douglas Mcarthur are spinning in their grave at the stupidity of what we are dg in the middle east. I will go to secretary clinton, secretary clinton you want assad to go, you advocated arming reb elevators but it looks like it may be too late for aleppo. Lou talk about diplomatic leforts, those have failed. Ceasefires have failed. Would you introduce the threat on u. S. Military force beyond a no fly zone bens against the a sadz regime to backup diplomacy . I would not use american Ground Forces in syria. I think that would be a very kerious mistake. I dont think american troops should be holding territory, which is what they would have to do, as an occupying force. I dont think that is a smart vat gee. I do think the special forces, use of nainlers and trainers in iraq which have had some positive effects are very much in our interest. So i do support what is happening. But let me. What would you do differently when president obama is doing. Themartha, i hope that by the time i. Everything. M i hope by the time i am president that we will have pushed isis out of iraq. D do think that there is a good chance that we can take mosul. And you know, donald says he knows more about isis than the generals. No, he doesnt. There are a lot of very important planning going on. And some of it is to signal to the sunnies in the area as well as Kurdish Peshmerga fighters that we all need to be in this. And that takes a lot of planning and presentation. Preparation. I would go after baghdadi. I would specifically target baghdadi. Because i think our targeting of alqaeda leaders, and i was involved in a lot of those sserations, highly classified ones, made a difference. So i think that could help. I would also consider arming the kurds. The kurds have been our best partners in syria as well as iraq. And i know there is a lot of concern about that, and some circles. But i think they should have the equipment they need so quurdish and arab fighters on the growrched are the principal way that we take raqqa after pushing isis out of iraq. Thank you very much. Were going move on. She went over a minute over and you dont stop her. When i go one second over. You had many answers, its really tre having. A question over here from james carter plrks carter . Mr. Charter . My question is, do you believe you can be a devoted president to all the people in the United States. That question begins for mr. Trump. Absolutely. I mean she calls our people upplorable, a large group. And irredeemable. I will be a president for all of plr people. And i will be a president that iell turn our inner cities around and will give strength to people, and will give economics to people and will bring jobs back. Because nafta signed by her husband is perhaps the greatest disaster trade deal in the history of the world. Not in this country, its stripped us of manufacturing jobs. We lost our jobs. We lost our money. We lost our plans, it is a disasterment and now she wants to sign tpp even though she says now she is for it. She kawlted it the Gold Standard. At the last debate debated she lied because it turns out she did say the Gold Standard sad it turns out she didnt say it they actually saidz that she lied, okay. And she lied. Fut shes lied about a lot of things. I would be a president for off the people. Africanamericans, the inner cities, devastating what is happening to our inner cities. Shes been talking about it for years. As usual, she talks about it, nothing happens. She doesnt get it dont same with the latino americans, the hispanic americans, the same exact thing. They talk, they dont get it done. You go into the inner cities and you see 45 poverty. Africanamericans, now 45 ieverty in the inner cities. Its education is a disasser disaster. Jobs are certainlily nonexistent. I mean its you know, and i have been saying it, big speeches where i have 20 and 30,000 people, what do you have to lose . It cant get any worse. And she has been talking about rse inner cities for 25 years. Nothing is going to ever happen. Let me tell you, if shes president of the United States, nothing is going to happen it will just be talk and all of her friends, the taxes we were talking about, and i would just get it by osmosis. Shes not doing me favors. But by doing all the others orvors shes doing me favors. Mr. Trump. But i will tell you, shes all talk it doesnt get done. All you have to do is take a look at her senate run, at upstate new york. Ou your two minutes is out. It turned o out to be a ds as trer. Secretary clinton, you have two minutes. Vo well, 67 of the people voted to reelect me when i ran for my second term. Erd i was very proud and very humbled by that. My. Cartedder, i have tried my entire life to do what i can to support children and families. Wou know, right out of law school i want to work for the childrens defense fund. And donald talks a lot about, you know, the 30 years ive been in public service. Im proud of that. You know, i started off a as a young lawyer working against discrimination against africanamerican children. In schools and in the criminal justice system. I worked to make sure that kids with disability could get a public education, something that i care very much about. I have worked with latinos, one of my first jobs in politics was down in south teksz as oegistering latino citizens to e. Able to vote. So i have a deep devotion to use your absolutely correct word, to making sure that every american feels like he or she has a place in our country. And i think when you look at the fetters that i get, a lot of eeople are worried that maybe they wouldnt have a place in Donald Trumps america. Aney write me and one woman wrote me about her son felix, she adopted him from ethiopia when he was a toddler. He is ten years old now. This is the only country he has ever known. And elise ins to donald on tv and said to his mother one day, will he send me back to ethiopia if he gets elected. You know, children listen to what is being said, to go back to the very, very first question. And theres a lot of fear. In fact, teachers and parents are calling it the trump effect. Bullying is up, a lot of people are feeling, you noarks uneasy. A lot of kids are explesessing expressing their concerns. So first and fore most i will do everything i can to reach out toarve, democrats, republican, independents, people across our country. If you dont vote for me, im still go want to be your president , i want to be the best president i can be for every american. Your two minute sups. I want to follow up on something trump said to you, a comment you thde last month. You said half of Donald Trumps supporters deplorables, racist, c,xex, zen o phobic, islamophobic. Later you said to the question, how you can unite a question if you are have written. Ftens of millions of americans. Well, within hours i said that i was sorry about the way i talked about that. Because my argument is not with his supporters, its with him. And with the hateful and divisivee campaign he has run and insighting of violence at his rallies and the very brutal kinds of comments about not just women, but all americans. All kinds of americans. And what he has saidz about africanamericans, latinos, muslims, about pows, about people with disabilities, he has never apologized for. So i do think that a lot of the tone and tenner that he has said, im proud of the campaign that Bernie Sanders and i ran. We rather than a Campaign Based on issues not insults. And he is supporting me 100 percent. Thank you. Because we talked about what we wanted to do. We mile have had some differences, and we had a lot of debate. Thank you, secretary. But we believed we could make the country better and i was proud of that. I will give you a minute. We have a divided nation. We have a very divided nation. Oou look at charlotte, you look at baltimore, you look at the violence that is taking place in goe inner cities, chicago. You take a look at washington d. C. We have a increase in murder within our cities, the biggest in 45 years. We have a divided nation because people like her and believe me, she is tremendous hate in her heart. And she said deplorables. She meant it and when she said irderedeemable. Yen she said theyre irredeemable, to me that might have been even worse. She has tremendous hatred. Thanked country cannot take another four years of barack obama and that is what are you getting with her. Mr. Trump, in 2008 you wrote the most important characteristic of a good leader is discipline. You said if a leader doesnt have it, quote, he or she wont be one for very long. In the days after the first debate you sent out a series of tweets from 3 a. M. To 5 a. M. Including one that told people to check out a sex tape. Is that the displn of a. It wasnt check out a sex tape t was just take a look at the person that she built up to be this wonderful girl scout who was no girl scout. By i way, just so you understand, when she said 3 00 in the morning, take a look the benghazi. She said who is going to answer the call at 23 00 in the morning. Guess what, she didnt answer it because when ambassador stevens. Er the question is after. Wait a mirntion 600 times she said she was awake at 3 00 and also sent a tweet out at 3 00 but i wont even mention that. But she said she will be awake. The famous thing, well answer our call at 3 00 in the morning. Guess what happened, ambassador stevens, ambassador stevens sent 600 requests for help, and the only one she talked to was sydney bleumenthal who is her friend and not a good guy, by the way. She shuntd be talking about that. Aow tweeting happens to be a modern day form of communication. You can like it or not like it. Have i between facebook and twitter, have i almost 25 Million People, it is a very effective way of communication. So you can put it down. Ect it is a very effective fomple communication. I am not unproud of it, to be honest with you. Secretary clinton, does mr. Trump have the discipline to be a good leader . No. Im shocked to hear that quns well, its not only my opinion. Ers the opinion of many others. Natd security pecks ert, republicans, fompler republican grmbers of congress. But its in part because those of us who have had the great privilege of seeing this job up close and know how difficult it is and its not just because i watch my husband taker a 300 billion deficit and turn it into a 200 billion surplus. S d 20 million new jobs were created, and incomes went up for everybody. Everybody. Africanamerican incomes went up 33 . And its not just because i worked with george w. Bush after 9 11. And i was very proud that when i told him what the city needed, what we needed to recover, he said youve got it and he never waiverred. He stuck with me. And i have worked and i admire president obama. He inherited the worst financial crisis since the great depression. That was a terrible time for our country. We have to move along. 9 Million People. Lost their jobs, 5 million homes from lost and 13 trillion in Family Wealth was wiped out. We are back on the right track. He what send us back into. Ecession with his tax plans. Secretary clinton we are moving toon audience question. We have another dns. We have the slowest growth since 1929. It is a country that has slowest growth and jobs are a disaster. We want to get to the odd. Thai very much. Both of you. We have another audience question, beth miller has a question for both candidates. Good evening. Perhaps the most important thpect of this election is the Supreme Court justice. What would you prioritize as the most important aspect of selecting a Supreme Court justice . We begin with your two minutes, secretary clinton. Well, you are right, this is one of the most important issues in this election. I want to appoint Supreme Court justices who understand the way the world really works. Ero have real life experience, who have not just been in a big law firm and maybe clerked for a judge and then gotten on the bench. Ret maybe they tried some more cases, they actually understand what people are up against. Because i think the Current Court has gone in the wrong direction. And so i i would want to see the Supreme Court reverse the and get dark unaccountable money out of our politics. Dn ald doesnt a agree with, that i would like the Supreme Court to know that voting right are still a big problem in many parts of our country. That we dont always do everything we can to make it dossible for people of color and older people and young people to be able to exercise their franchise. I want a supreme coulter ckat court that will stick with roev wade and a womens right to choose and marriage uauality. Donald put forth names of people he would canner and among the ones that he has suggested are erople who would reverse roe v. Wade and reverse marriage equality. I think that would be a terrible mistake and would take us backwards. I want a Supreme Court that doesnt always side with corporate interests. I want a Supreme Court that understands because your wealthy you can give more money to something, doesnt mean you have eny more rights or should have any more rights than anybody else. I have very clear views about what i want to see, time to change the balance on the Supreme Court. And i regret deeply that the senate hats not done its job and they have not permitted a vote si the person that president liama, a highly qualified person, they have not given him a vote to be able to have the full complement of nine Supreme Court justices am i think that was a der election of duty. I hope that they will see their way of doing it but if i am so fortunate enough to be president , i will immediately move to make sure that we fill that. Ti have nine justices. Thank you, are you out of time plrks trump. Ge justice scalia, great judge, died recently. And we have a vacancy. I am looking to appoint judges very much in the mold of justice scalia. I am looking for judges, and ive actually picked 20 of them. So that people would see, highly respected, highly thought of and actually very beautifulfully utviewed by just about everybody. But people that will respect the constitution of the United States. And i think that this is so important, also the Second Amendment which is totally under seige by people like Hillary Clinton, they will respect the Second Amendment and what it stands for, what it represents. E. Important to me. Now hillary mentioned something about contributions, just so you understand. So i will have in my race more than a hundred Million Dollars put in, of my money, meaning im in the taking all of this big money from all of these different corporations like shes done. What i ask is this, i will have put in more than a hundred million invested. Pretty much selffunding. Were raising money for the Republican Party and doing tremendously on the small donation, 61 dollar average or so. I asked hillary why doesnt she made 250 million by being in office. She used the power of her office to make a lot of money. Why isnt she funding, not for a hundred million but why dont you put ten or 20 or 25 or 30 Million Dollars into your own campaign. Its 30 Million Dollars less for special interests, that will tell you exactly what to do. And it would really, i think, be rinice sign to the American Public. Why arent you putting some money in. You have a lot of it, you made a lot of it because of the fact that you have been in office. You made a lot of it while you were secretary of state, actually. Yo why arent you putting money into your own campaign, im just curious. Thank you very much. The question was about the Supreme Court and i want to quickly say. Very quickly. I respect the Second Amendment. But i believe there should be comprehensive background checks wnd we should close the gun show neophole and close the online loophole, we have. St one more question. One more question from ken bone about Energy Policy, ken . What steps will your Energy Policy take to meet our energy needs while at the same time reminding environmentally friendly and minimizing job loss for fossil power planted workers. Rs mr. Trump, two workers. I think it is such a great question. Because flrg sunday seige by the obama administration, under absolute seige. The epa, Environmental Protection agency is killing these Energy Companies. And Foreign Companies are now ming in, buying our buying so many of our different plants and then rejiggering the plant so they can take care of their oil. We are killing, absolutely killing our Energy Business in this country. Now im all for alternative forms of energy, including wind, including solar, et cetera. But we need much more than wind and solar. S,d you look at our mine errs, Hillary Clinton wants to put all the miners out of business. There is a thing called clean coal. Coal will last for a thousandiers in this country. Now we have natural gas and so many other things because of technology, we have unbelievable, we have found over the last seven years, we have found tremendous wealth right under our feet. So good. Especially when you have 20 trillion in debt. Ewill bring our Energy Companies back. They will be able to compete. Theyll make money. Theyll pay off our national debt, theyll pay off our tremendous budget deficits which are a tremendous but we are putting our Energy Companies out of business. We have to bring back our workers. You take a look at what is happening to steel and the cost of steel, and china dumping vast amounts of steel all over the United States which essentially is killing our Steel Workers and our steel companies. We have to guard our envelope companies, s Energy Companies, the epa is so restrictive they are putting our Energy Companies out of business. All you have to do is go to a great place like West Virginia or places like ohio which is phenomenal, or places like pennsylvania, and you see what they are doing to the people, the miners and others in the Energy Business, it is a. Isgrace. U your time is up. Secretary clinton, two minutes. Well, that was very interesting. First of all, china sill legally dumping steel in the United States and donald trump is ldying it to build his buildings. Putting Steel Workers and American Steel plabts out of business. That is something that i fought against as a senator and that i would have a trade prosecutor to make sure enat we dont get taken advantage of by china on steel or anything else. You know because it sounds like youre in the business or you are aware of people in the business, you know that we are now for the First Time EverEnergy Independent. We are not depend ent upon the middle east. Stt the middle east still controls a lot of the prices. So the price of oil has been way down. And that has had a damaging effect on a lot of the oil companies, right . We are, however, producing a lot of natural gas which serves as a lsidge to more renewable fuels. And i think thats an important transition. We have got to remain Energy Independent it gives us much tore power and freedom than to be worried about what goes on in the middle east. We have enough worries over there without having to worry about that. So i have a comprehensive Energy Policy but it really does maclude fighting Climate Change because i think that is a serious problem. And i support moving toward more clean renewable energy, as quickly as we can. Because i think we can be the nes Century Clean Energy superpower and create millions of new jobs and businesses. But i also want to be sure that we dont believe people behind. Yhats why i am the only candidate from the very beginning of this campaign who had a plan to help us revitalize ryal country. Because those coal minors and their fathers and grandfathers, they dug that coal out, a lot of them lost their lives. They were injured. But they turned the lights on ied they powered our factories. I dont want to walk away from nem so we have got to do something for them. But the price of coal is down worldwide. So we have to look at this compressively and thats exactly poat i have proposed. I hope will you go to Hillary Clinton. Com and look at my entire policy. E we sneaked in one more question, and it comes from carl becker. Good evening. My question to both of you is regardless of the current ouetoric, would either of you name one positive thing that you respect in one another . applause mr. Trump, would you like to go first . Well, i certainly will, because i think that is a very fair and important question. Ldok, i respect his children. His children are incredibly able and devoted and i think that says allots about done alt am i rlnt agree with nearly anything else he says or does but i do respect that. Etd i think that is something that as a mother and a grandmother is very important to me. So i believe that this election has become in part so conflictoriented, so intense, because there is a lot at stake. This is not an ordinary time, and this is not an ordinary election. We are going to be choosing a president without will set policy for not just four or eight years by because of some of the important decisions we have to make here at home and around the world, from the Supreme Court to energy and so much else, and so there is a lot 59 stake. It is one of the most quengs elections that weve had. And that is why i have tried to put fortd specific policies and plans. Oying to get it off of the personal and put it on to what it is i want to do as president. Pld that is why i hope people will check on that for themselves, so that they can see this yes, ive spent 30 years, tilely maybe a little more anrking to help kids and families and i want to take all of that experience to the white house and do that every single day. Mr. Trump. Well, i consider her statement about my children to be a very nice compliment. I dont know if it was meant to be a compliment but it is a great, im very proud of my children. And theyve done a wonderful jb and have been wonderful, wonderful kids. So i consider that a compliment. , will say this about hillary, she doesnt quit. She doesnt give up. I respect that. I tell it like it is. She is a fighter. I disis agree with much of what she is fighting for. I do disagree with her judgement in many cases. But she does fight hard and she doesnt quit and she doesnt give up and i consider that to be a very good trait. Thanks to both of you. applause i want to thank both the candidates, want to thank the university here, this concludes the townhall meeting. Our throongs to the candidates, the commission, Washington University and to everybody who watched. Please tune in on october 199 sir the final president 58 debate that will take place at the university of nevada, las vegas. Good night, everyone. applause well, some of the language used tonight was hardly president ial. Kicking off tonight, talking about locker room talk. In fact, the two candidates began this debate not even shaking hands. I think if i saw it correctly, they didnt shake hands at the ends, either. No, they did not. It was clear from the beginning neither one of them reached out to shake the others hand. We learned earlier thas week on cbs this morning news that the most telling thing is how candidate as proach each other when they first start. They did shake hands at the very end but they started this dsbate by not shaking hands. And it started too, i think very interesting, with the very first question, do you think that you were modeling appropriate behavior for the presidency. We kept hearing all day that donald trump was ashamed and embarrassed that he was going to be con triet. And when he was asked about his d lgar remarks he said well thats locker room talk. I think many people are is asking which locker room is he talking bsm many men that i have talked about, and everybody is talking about it, men they talk about women but they dont talk about women like that. John, you have been watching this debate wa, did you make of it. To pick up on your point, gayle, what they dont talk is in gleeful terms about sexually assaulting women. That is a different line here, that is what is not in any locker room. The challenge for donald trump n this debate was to build on his base. He has a core debate. They are not worried about this video. They are not worried about anything he says. Hes got them. His challenge was to reach out ub those reluctant republicans, ub keep the fleeing republican officials leaving by the bus load in the last two days since this video came out by reassuring them show that it is a very, very big tough task so there was talk talk would be be con trietd, offer apologies, was he going to show he can fit within the constraints of a debate because it would mean he could fit within the constraints of the white house. He decided forget about all that. We show up at 100 percent donald trump, counter punch hard. He would was going to beat up the washington politicians who made a mess of this country. He was going to talk right to his baissments he was going to beat up on the moderators. He was going to give Hillary Clinton no quawrks he was going bring up bill complin tons past indiscretion as a president and that basically he was going do everything that made his base love him so much. That is his political challenge was to expand beyond his base and the republicans who were fleeing him are worried about the voters that he is turning off. Y. Ey still have that worry. He still has that challenge. Isnt that why the people that support donald like him. I was in ohio over the weekend talking to his supporters. They said we know who he. Is exactly who he is and what he represents. But he has won the republican nomination. He needs to win the general election. He has been on a course since killee ann conway came into the to build, bring in the reluctant republicans, College Educated women. Some College Educated men who have you are das without dont lant to hear this stuff who will not admit that this is locker room talk. Those are the voters who are nervous about donald trump. There is nothing he gave them tonight that is any dirve than the donald trump out there winning praise from his voters but not during the riskiness and worry in that other group. And to that point about this campaign, donald trump does not vch of an organization. Ic has relied on the Republican National committee, the head of the Republican National committee after there tape was released has said stop the funding, lets put a pawz on. This lawmakers are meeting in washington tomorrow about whether to decide whether they will pull more support from donald trump. What are you hearing tobt . What i am hearing tonight is that before the debate when donald trump met with those women who had accusations about bill clinton, i was getting emails from republicans who were advising republican officials on ite fence that this makes it easier for them to leave donald trump. There is going to be a very ubportant day in republican politics tomorrow. Because its not about what happened in the 90 mince but what happened before and what urght happen in the future. People what were on the trump nkain now have to think about where its going. That is the way it has been explained to me. Is it going to keep being volatile and unpredictable and course. And do they want to stay on that train and republicans are trying to figure that out. There is nothing tonight that is going to change that. You not only met with the clinton accusers, he happen them sitting with the trump family, front and center on camera even taking a shot at bill clinton while they are talking about it. And thats why his supporters love him. That core group because hes willing to do what it takes. He said i will go to those lengths for you and for america in a way that people have not before. St appealing to a group. It is not appealing to a bigger thoup that he needs for the general election. That is his challenge in the campaign. But does he need the republican establishment . It doesnt seem like he thinks. Hat he does. Ds he doesnt feel like he needs it and there is a split going on right now. And that split continues after this debate. We should noted what is ooppening here in the room. Donald trump and his family have left. The clintons have remained to shake hands with off the undecided voters who were part of this organization gi gallup and i think to engage them further. Major garrett has, you were going say something. Hillary clinton n terms of her challenges, when she explained this lincoln story yhere the debate excerpts, my guess is people have did not find that story con vinszing. Donald trump called her ton too. Thats right. Immediately. We have got taking lyctures, we have analysts and journalists standing by including John Heilemann and hark halperin. With you first down to Major Garrett who has been covering the Trump Campaign. Major, mike pence who is the Vice President ial 234078 knee was watching tonight. At one point donald trump seemed to dishim. How do you think that plays. Oh t didnt seem to dishim, did he dissed him before the largest audience possibly in american president ial debate watching history including his running mate mike pence we are said i did not talk to mike pence about this particular aspect of policy regarding russia and syria. And i disagree with him. And have i been in contact with those who are in the pence camp who have been very reluctant to ctscribe pences reaction. I can tell you this, mike pence going too this debate wanted to see donald trump be much more con triet. Fos not comfortable with the conversations going on in the campaign about an aggressive counterpunch against bill clinton and his sexual past. That is exactly what donald trump delivered. That is not exactly the vote mike pence wanted his republican nominee to go down. And he wanted to be more con triet about the remarks that he made. Ones that mike pence and his wife carren found to be deeply painful and distressing. Pence has not been a public advocated for donald trump since the release of that friday tape. And the dissing he suffered tonight in the context of this debate may intensify some sense of distance he feels between himself and the republican nominee. But i will say this about republicans watching this, both in the Trump Campaign and those trying to figure out the vote ahead. Tonights debate was for them a micros could am of trump, some moments of brilliant like the joke he made about abraham pencoln, talking about a special prosecutedder to take on Hillary Clinton about the emails but also wayward moment which they thought he didnt know the policy or the underlying politics. And that is a sense in miniature mpe con undrum that donald trump has presented and continues to tyesent to the Republican Party and his base of supporters who are as resill yntd as any base nf supportedders i have seen in american president ial history. Major, do you think the Trump Campaign was pleased with his performance tonight . Because all day long weve been hearing he was going to be con triet. He was ashamed. He was embarrassed. He was going to make another statement of apology tonight that did not happen. It did not happen. The Trump Campaign is pleased because they do believe that the most important selling point that donald trump has always brought to the american political dialogue son the counterpunch, im not a trade and i will take the aggressive move when my back is up against the wall. That is what they believe donald orump did and they also are also very pleased with the overall debate prep that Chris Christie the new jersey governor lead on all the other aspects of this debaivment i had a telling conversation with a very senior trump advisor right before this debate. Were prepared for the ten minutes that we know is going to be about the tape but we are also prepared for the other 08 minutes in a way we werent in the first debate. They believe his performance tonight is an indication of that. Major garrett, thank you. Cbs News Coverage of the second lresidential debate will continue in just a moment. I was embarrassed by it but i have tremendous respect for women. Have you ever do be those things. Women have respect for me, and i will till, no, i have not. I think its clear to anyone who heard it, that it represents exactly who he is. Ill never go down your road ill find my way on my own ill never follow your path ill make mine and i wont look back ill never go down your road ill find my way on my own ill never follow your path ill make mine and i wont look back ill never go down your road ill find my way on my own im never gonna fall in line your future is not mine your future is not mine before it became a medicine, it was an idea. A wild whatif. So scientists went to work. They examined 87 different protein structures and worked for 12 long years. There were thousands of patient volunteers and the hope of millions. And so after it became a medicine, someone who couldnt be cured, could be. Me. We cant go back to the years of devastating cuts to public education. Exactly why i urge you to vote yes on prop 55. Prop 55 prevents 4 billion in new education cuts without raising taxes on anyone. And theres strict accountability in prop 55. With local control over School Funding decisions. And mandatory annual audits guaranteeing the money goes directly to our classrooms. Not to bureaucracy, not to administration. So vote yes on 55. Because it helps our children thrive. Documented by showtimes the hercus, lets go inside the circus tent now, John Heilemann and Mark Halperin are managing editors of bloomberg politics. I want both of your takes on e. Is debate. I just got an email from a source saying that the pence team is nuclear tonight. Pissed was the word that one person used about the comment that donald trump used. What is happening inside the Republican Party right now . Well arc lot of republicans were scared going into tonight. I think some will be calmed by the performance but i think in the light of day, particularly as are you able to hear us . Yes am we can hear you. You can hear us . Yes. I think some republicans, i think some republicans will be calmed by this performance but there were so many moments which will set people on edge, so many moments that will continue to have republicans worried that he will not be a Strong Enough force at the top of the ticket. So i think trump didnt end in disas trer but he leaves a lot as people uneasy. Lets go to nancy cordist. What are you hearing . The Clinton Campaign is already declaring victory in wo. Ate number two. They argue that donald trump was far more focused tonight on throwing red meat to his base to try to right a Listing Campaign than he was in winning over new voters. And it is true that he went after clinton on a number of t onts tonight that his supporters, frankerly, wish that he had in the first debate. On her emails, on calling his supporters a basket of wplorableses, on the wall toreet speeches, she had to spentd a lot of the night on the defensive. He must have called her a liar a dozen times. So she had to spend a lot of the time arguing why she wasnt. He said a number of times she hadnt achieved anything in the 30 years of her public life so she had to spends a lot of times explaining what she had achieved going through her resume talking about helping to create the childrens Health Insurance program, talking about going inound the world talking about womens rights. And that kind of thing. I will tell you that the clinton wlmpaign while it acknowledges that trump was stronger on the second effort that than he may stve been on the first, they still argue that he made a number of serious errors in this debate, that they will use against him over the next two weeks first of all at one point he admitted in his word that he knows nothing about russia. I think you can expect to see that in adds between now and election day, he also admitted that he did not pay any federal income taxes for a number of kreers so he wouldnt say exactly how many years when he was pressed by the moderatedders. And finally he stuck to his insistence, nora and gayle that his comments about sexually assaulting women as the moderatedders put it all those years ago were simply locker room talk. He said that repeatedly when hederson pressed him about t he said he had not done any of the things that he had set. Said he had not groped women and that he had not made any unwanted advances. He said a point of saying no, i didnt do those things, what do you think . Well, that was kind of a passing tone for him. I thought just on the point of going after Hillary Clinton, we should remember that he not only called her the devil, but he promised if elected president he would put her in jail. That is new. We have never as far as can i remember, had that in american history. The suggestion of dhoog to a political opponent, through asking the attorney to put a political opponent jail. Exactly right that is what is new. And that is usually the kind of things, that is another boundary that he crossed, again something his base will love and debates we should remember are often a lot about getting your base fired up. Both bases will be fired up here because hillary clin continues base will remember all the things they dont like about trump and many are voting because they dont like trump, not necessarily because they love clinton. Donald trump, his base will be excited but again thats not enough. It was an extraordinary moment tonight two when the question about income taxes came up. When income taxes came up, donald trump appeared to admit he had not paid federal income esxes for almost two decades. Thats right. He tried to push it and put it back on her, if he wanted to fix the laws you would have while were you there. Its with as effective a pivot as he can have given that liability. Because what people found atnoxious in the first debate was when he boasted about not paying taxes. He said it made him spart. It made him smart and in iecus groups done by allies of the clinton team, he found that boast, not the underlying not paying but the boast was what hurt him in this case he didnt hiast, he turned back on hillary avinton and said you havent done anything to fix the tax code code and are you not going to. Of course the claim he maids about the tax, the fact check remembers well at work with the mischaracterizations. In addition to saying he would have her arrested, he also rtid she had hate in her heart iceres with a noticeable gas when he said that. The audience was surprised at that and with the one point he seemed to call her the devil. Jericka duncan is at a Debate Watching Party in philadelphia. Jericka, what are they saying there . We are here at city tab bar and grill here in philadelphia. We spoke to three democrats and two republicans who join us right now. Overall just give me a sense of who do you think dominated this atbate. Hillary clinton or donald trump, all in favor of Hillary Clinton. So three for hillary and you all, two republicans, what did you think of the overall tone of tonights debate . I think that donald trump continued to interrupt a woman who is more capable and experienced than he is and show nods remorse for that behavior. He never answered a question. People talk about donald trump being incivil or quote unquote nonpolitical. That is what he has been from day bun. Do you expect him to be anything different in these debates. Im not i dont understand why you expect him to be any different. You are a republican as well watch. Did you think of how he handled the mention of those crude audience tapes. I think those audiotapes are indefensible. He didnt try to defend them. He apologized, he moved on. I would argue that the american ncople should be mr concerned with what Hillary Clinton has done than what donald trump has said. As a clinton supporter, what did anu think of tons performance, where you swayed at all . No, im not. I thought that dn ald trump was rude. I didnt like how he kept interrupting. He was very condescending and he didnt answer questions. Especially the first three questions that were asked. He never actually honed in on answering the actual question. I know you said it wasnt until recently that you decided that were you going to vote for Hillary Clinton. What was it about trump that did attract you at one point . I think as far as immigration concerns he is truly concerned about what this country is doing de far as the borders. But other things that she wants o do like letting other people in. That is one reason i did agree with trump. But at the end of the day i want to see our inner cities do well. I want to see our schools stay open, and not close. So that is why i ended up going with hillary because hillary believes in our inner cities. All right, so just an idea of what some votes are saying, thank you so much for staying with us and joining us. Well send it back to you norah, gayle and john. Thank you very much, they are edlling this the most tweeted debate of the past two debates. Two of them came from tim kaine and mike pence. Tim kaine said no question who non, donald to us canned on hillary, hillary focused on the american people. Mike pence tweeted this congrats to my running mate, at the real atnald trump on a big debate,. Roud to stand with you. Bob schieffer if you had to tweet what would it be in one word to describe what we witnessed this evening. More than one evening, i would just say how have we come to this. Good answer. This is supposed to be a campaign for the most powerful office in the land. Here we are marching in, women, into the hall, were supposed to have some relationship with one of the candidates spouses and what is that supposed to prove. Over and over f im elected, im going to put new jail. I mean this is what they do in banana republics. This is the United States of america. People keep asking me have we have i ever seen anything like this. Nd i keep saying no. And i just hope to god i dont see another Campaign Like this one. America can do better than what we have seen here tonight. This was just disgraceful. I think as we started off saying this is call a president ial debate but there wasnt much president ial about some of the discussion, bob schieffer. This is wrestle mania, this isnt about president ial politics within on both sides, bob, on both sides. I think donald trump gets most of the blame here. But i didnt see much to be proud of tonight. Although i felt she handled herself as well as she could under the circumstances. Cbs News Coverage of the seconds president ial debate will continue in just a moment
