Dark smoke row. Rose , rose into a dark. Sunny sky after the 777 jetliner broke apart on landing and skidded off the runway barely missing San Francisco bay. Benjamin levy was in seat 30 k just behind the wing. The nose of the plane was up a little bit, and then while hitting hard, and then it felt like we were going up again, but, put one of those, almost like we landed and went back up, but as the passengers on asiana flight 214 fled down the emergency slides witnesses near the airport tried to make sense of what they just had seen. It was taking the same angle they always come in, like this, and the wheels were down, and then i knew something was wrong. Landing gear coming in low over San Francisco bay, eyewitnesses suggest the tail of asiana flight 214 hit the seawall at the edge of the runway and broke off. From his zero home overlooking the airport he watches the planes landing all the time, this one looked different. He got right up to the runway and we heard a really loud boom and before we knew it the plane had come to a stop about 50 yards down and it was just lost in this sea of just black smoke, what looked like dust. He went down, he come down quickly and pushing each other and stepping on each other, and it felt like you went pretty fast. Inside the airport james white was waiting to meet a group of Korean School children. We got this picture of a plane on fire, nobody will come out, we called three times information and talked to asiana, finally is someone coming out and just go downstairs, no one was downstairs, just standing there waiting. There was confusion as dozens of injured passengers were sent to nine different hospitals. Xrays showed benjamin levys ribs were not broken but like many others he is painfully bruised. I was in the ambulance with three people that obviously im sorry spine injuries, i mean a lot of people had broken ribs, bruised ribs, spine injuries, maybe some people, you know, cant walk again. As investigators from the National Transportation safety board search for a cause the most remarkable fact perhaps is that so many of the 291 passengers walked away unscathed from a Major Airline disaster. Osgood next, a place to call home. Have a good week. Whose birthday is it. Later back home with actor cooper. Osgood on this long 4th of july weekend, the u. S. Intervention in iraq and revisiting an old friend of cbs news from that time, who is starting over, after immigrating to this country from iraq four years ago, he was learning that liberty and its Many Blessings can come with a price. Our can cover story is reported now by lee cowan. Reporter lynn caster, pennsylvania isnt where i thought i would find him. Here in a place where the old so easily meshes with the new, maybe there is no better place to find an old friends new home. Good to see you again, my friend. Good to see you, how are you. I am good. We hadnt seen each other in more than a decade since the unwelcome circumstance that first brought us together. The war in iraq. He was in baghdad on the eve of the u. S. Invasion that i first met atheer hameed, he was an iraqi photographer, a camera man, wellknown in baghdad for his work shooting soap operas and documentaries. Cbs news hired him not only for his eye but for his language, and local knowledge but it turned out that his greatest assets was his courage. When the u. N. Headquarters in baghdad was attacked in 2003 atheer was inside and he kept his compassion, his composure and his camera rolling. Everything became dark, too dark, even i cant see my hand. All of the people around me laying in the floor, some of them dead, some of them injured, some of them crying, some of them screaming. And only me, i am good. He led people to safety using the light on his camera. But it wasnt just the violence he covered. In his battered volkswagen bug, we go bouncing around baghdad to find the touching too. We found the baghdad symphony getting back to playing music again. We ventured to the baghdad zoo, stormed by looters who took every morsel of fooled for, where starving animals were fed and watered thanks to the u. S. Military. It is rock n roll. And we went to a hospital Maternity Ward to witness the first of the generation not born under the dictatorship of saddam hussein. Nice memories, nice. They are. They are nice, even it was a tough time, difficult, but when you remember, when you see them, you remember that you think you did something. We did do something, didnt we . Yes, we did something, for sure, yes. He still has that venerable volkswagen in a garage in baghdad, although now it mostly has been lost to the dust of the desert. In the months and years that followed we couldnt drive it anyway, Baghdad Security situation had deteriorated so much, we rarely got outside at all. I used to have a hope that things would be better. Do you remember a point where you were covering all of this that you thought to yourself, maybe things arent going to get any better . I also have this feeling, and then afraid from that feeling. For good reason, it wasnt only westerners in danger, anyone in the media was a target. Atheers brother who worked for a local tv channel in baghdad was murdered by one of the many militia groups that surfaced in the chaos. It was a big shock for us and a big sign for me, some people told me, you will be the next, so take care, because so take care and leave the country. And you did. Yes, thats why i left my country. It was a difficult decision, but atheer didnt only have himself to worry about, he had a wife and two children, the threats against his family allowed him to gain Refugee Status from the u. S. Government and four years ago, atheer and his family arrived in the u. S. To face both the promise and the hurdles of immigrant life in america. So of all the places why lancaster . Ah, it is a quiet and peaceful town. Lancaster was recommended to him by a friend on iraq tv who once visited here. It was atheers only guidance and he took, and he took it and he is as proud to living here as he is proud of being an iraqi. Look at the license plate. Yes, i brought it back from my country. From baghdad . From baghdad. This means pennsylvania and this is lancaster. Your home. Yes, my home. But his wife says the adjustment hasnt been easy. No, nobody know us, nothing. We start from zero. But we are a strong family. Strong indeed. But the price of their much deserved peace that they couldnt return to baghdad, not even when atheers mother passed away. I couldnt say goodbye to her, because i was here, make me cry for three days, but what should i do . Atheer also lost his job as a camera man. There wasnt much need of a war photographer in the pennsylvania country side, so he took what he could find, his first job was here on an Assembly Line at a chicken processing plant, and then a job as a custodian at a Public School in lancaster. His College Degree is of little consequence in this job, nor is the fact that the images his camera once captured were seen by millions, historys first draft of a controversial war. His station in life has indeed changed, and that often brings him to tears. It is going to get better. I cant imagine it is not. This job is respectable, good job, but i had to do it because i have to survive to feed my family and now i have a family. He is grateful beyond measure for all of the opportunity, and his reputation for hard work is sterling. I still have a hope to find my real life, the camera one. You are not giving that up . No, never. He knows the sacrifices meant that he has been able to provide for his family. His daughter is a junior in high school, his son hadir is now in the fourth grade and late last year, atheers family grew by two. His twin girls were born happy, healthy, and american citizens. When they are growing up here, they can vote and maybe they can be president. One day. Baghdad, though, is never far from their minds. They keep connected as much as they canable and this year for the first time, the family felt it was safe must have to return to baghdad for a long over due visit. For both son and family. Atheer was finally able to say a proper goodbye to his mother. And return to his neighborhood streets. But as some of atheers recent pictures make it look baghdad may be as bad or worse as when they left. U. N. Secretarygeneral called an up surge in attacks there appalling, more than 1,000 people were killed just in the month of may alone. It will always be their hometown. It is too dangerous to be home any longer. Their flight to america is a difficult and at times disorienting, but it has brought them safety. Upon arriving back in the states from their baghdad trip, the u. S. Customs officer who greeted them said it all. He gave me back the passport and said very nice, he said to me, welcome home. Welcome home. It is very nice for him and this is the first time i have heard this sentence, somebody say to me, welcome home. So this is my home now. Osgood and now a page from our sunday morning almanac, july 7th, 1928, 85 years ago today. And a historic day anyway you slice it. Well that was the day the Banking Company of chili cough sold americas first presliced bread made possible by a slicing machine, invented by the bankers friend otto roll better. As the bakerys ad put it the greatest step forward in the Banking Industry since bread was wrapped. The innovation quickly became the industry standard. Demonstrated in this film for aspiring bakers. After cooling, the loafs go into a slicing and wrapping machine, the raiser sharp blades slice about 40 loaves a minute. The machine does all the work. The machined sliced bread meant slices of uniform thickness, the type of technological breakthrough required to launch the toaster. Mattress discounters osgood 61 years ago today, the ocean liner ss united broke the eastbound speed record to dross atlantic. Back then, she was our pride of the seas, a genuine ship of state. Mark strassmann has tracked her down. If you ever find yourself south of downtown philadelphia in the parking lot of this strip mall take a look pass the buzzing traffic. Americas bid on the supremacy of the seas. There chained to an idle document floats a legend, forlorn and largely forgotten, only her name still speaks to the pride she once inspired across the nation. The ss United States. A ship that would be so fast and so easily handled she could outmaneuver anything afloat. This is the most famous ship that didnt sink. We all know the titanic and the spectacular Maiden Voyage catastrophe. This ship is famous precisely because she did her job. Susan gibbs the executive director of the Ss United States Conservancy never said on this ship, but interest in the vessels fate runs in her blood. Her grandfather, William Francis gibbs was the ships designer. How important is this to you . This has become, well certainly my grandfather was obsessed with the ship, and my children would say i am following in his footsteps. Reporter gibbs was a self taught naval architect, a harvard dropout with a single mined devotion to his work. He was once asked, mr. Gibbs, do you love this more than his wife. And gibbs responded you are 1,000 percent correct and his wife happened to be there and she didnt mind, she understood what the ship meant to him. Author stephen has set out to restore the acclaimed the ship gibbs once enjoyed, consider this. One year after entering the war United States gains a naval tonnage record. During world war ii, three quarters of u. S. Naval vessels built were designed by gibbs firm. A prime requisite where speed, power and passenger comfort after the war, gibbs poured everything he knew into one ultimate ship. I kristen these United States. Larger, faster and far safer than the titanic, the vessel could accommodate 2,000 passengers in high style, though if war broke out she could be converted to carry 14,000 troops. The design was so revolutionary it was classified. While censorship forbids revealing details of her lower hull construction it has no secrets that new liner possesses structural strength and features the safety unknown in ship building even a few short years ago. Reporter on her first very Atlantic Crossing in july, 1952, she set the world speed record, three days, ten hours and 40 minutes. Her return time from england to new york remained unbeaten to this day. On her return to new york city, nearly everyone seemed to turn out to see the sleek new ship slide into the harbor. Imagine taking a structure the size of the Chrysler Building and turning it on its side and pushing it through the atlantic at 44 miles per hour, that is a heck of a lot of engineering, on top of that, make it the most beautiful ship in the world. Reporter this beautiful ship attracted the Beautiful People of her day, marilyn monroe, marlon brando, the duke and duchess of windsor. It was ahead i have experience for everyone on board. I remembered how absolutely gorgeous those facts were, what it looks like when it is painted properly. Back in 1958, fiveyear old Ross Mcpherson and her family said to her fathers new army posting in europe. They had come from the segregated south. But mcpherson discovered something remarkable on board. The ship was color blind. You figured that is 1958, that was a big deal to us as a family from the south, because i would not have been froliking in the pool in new orleans, i can guarantee that. With the white kids. With white kids and white families. My parents are dressed up in the lounge, sitting there with white people. We were really treated like regular human beings on this voyage. Everything about the experience made passengers feel special and yet no ship could compete with this. Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. This is your captain. Welcome to the jet age. Jet travel cut the journey to just over six hours and so in 1969, the ss United States was mothballed. In 1984, her fittings were auctioned off. So it was a great opportunity, it was a little bit sad at the same time. It was very sad but i thought to myself if i and other collectors dont gather some of this material together and keep it, it will just be scattered to the four winds. By coincidence our colleague here at cbs, producer Charles Holland happens to be a leading collector of ss United States memorabilia. This was a chest of drawers that would have been in a firstclass stateroom. His manhattan apartment is a living shrine to her furnishings. These tables all had a propeller design. From cocktail tables to stateroom linens. You eat, breathe and sleep the ship . Yes. Holland shipshape rooms are a sight to behold. But he and the Ss United States Conservancy have grander designs in mind. They are searching for a final home port where she can be converted into a museum, hotel and conference center. The estimated price tag, 150 to 300 million. But the clock is ticking. With future funding uncertain, the ship remains in constant danger of being sold for scrap. It is a ship that ought to be saved, there is probably one called the ss United States. Absolutely. We as a nation should be able to save our best ship and he is our best ship. Hi osgood nearly 800,000 americans a year suffer a stroke, sometimes catastrophic medical event that is no respect or of title or position and although the majority of stroke victims do survive, recovery can be a long and difficult step by step process. Rita braver has a case in point in washington. Welcome back, man. [ applause ] what was the scene like for you that day . It was the best day of my life. And it was a day this past winter that brought a rare gathering. Members of both sides of our rancorous government to the front of the capitol led by Vice President joe biden they were there to support the junior senator from mark kirk what would be for him an arduous task. His goal, to climb all 45 steps, so he could return to work after a years absence. It was a remarkable comeback. In late january, 2012, about a year after he was sworn in, mark kirk had found himself in an ambulance suffering a stroke. Which basically meant the blood supply to his brain was being cut off. I reached out to the ambulance tech and i remember staring at her blue hand, she had a glove on, just because i wanted to hold someones hand until i died. But kirk just 52 at the time was saved. Senator kirk was having swelling of his brain last night. Because doctors at chicagos Northwestern Memorial Hospital realized his brain was starting to swell. So we took him to surgery last night and removed a part of his skull so that there would be room for the brain to swell without causing any further damage. Neurological surgeon richard sess ler who led his medical team saying not doing the surgery could have been disastrous. He could have died and probably worse than that, he could have been vegetative, meaning that he is not dead, but he has no reasonable brain function. But kirk was lucky. And because the stroke was on the right side of his brain, it didnt damage his cognitive ability as much as his motor skills. However, the cadence of his speech was affected and the whole left side of his body is impaired. After three weeks in the hospital, he was transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute of chicago, where he spent some ten months in outpatient therapy, including time in a special program in which younger, stronger patients are pushed to take three to 4,000 steps an hour in comparison to three to 400 steps in standard physical therapy. When he was brought in here, he had not walked since the stroke, correct . Correct. Mike was kirks lead therapist. What we saw was a very driven young, smart guy who comes in here ready to get back to doing what he does so well. The stroke affected my left leg and he said, it is going to come back, it is going to bear weight. And it is like you dont know this leg. You dont know how useless he is, and he has come back. Lets join together to move the country back to right of center. [ applause ] the senator, who is divorced, was a five term member of the house before being elected to the senate in 2010 to fill the seat that barack obama gave up to become president. I have been carefully watching the voting record since he came back. Kirk has a reputation for bipartisanship, often teaming with his illinois democratic colleague dick durbin. He is also one of the few prochoice, pro gun control and pro gay marriage republicans in the senate. But he counts himself a fiscal conservative and although he says he feels for americans who dont have the same good Healthcare Benefits that he receives, he voted against the president s universal Health Coverage plan. Has this made you change your view on that . It hasnt. What i worried about that, we all know the federal government is out of money, that if you make that promise that people will believe you and you have got to come through. Dont make promises that you cant afford to keep. Furthermore, while under senate rule, kirk was paid during a year of absence, but he says he still does not support extending Unemployment Benefits for out of work americans. Even your own experience has not changed that for you . It hasnt. Still very much a fiscal conservative. And someone who drives himself hard enough to climb to the top of those 45 steps to the capitol door. But every day life is a challenge. He still tires easily, and must use a wheelchair to travel the long distances around the capitol, but kirk says he is quick to find a Silver Lining, he says he wants people to see his disabilities, because he believes that he can be an inspiration, making others understand just how much people like him still have to offer. Look for the twinge until the eye. It is going to be there. And when you connect with it, you will find that spark inside the person. Osgood since the 19th century, photography has been changing the way we see the world. The images of war captured americas civil war brought the battles home to both sides in ways not possible before. Martha ties never takes us back. Within hours of the fall of fort sumter on april 14, 1861, damage from the confederate bombardment of it that started the civil war had been photographed. This was something new. The first time americans would see images of war as it really looked. The first time true likenesses of the people who lived and died in the conflict remained as a record, profoundly shaping our understanding of the bloodiest war in u. S. History. When the civil war began, photography was really in its infancy and it was just 20 years old. Jethro and himes head the Photography Department at the metropolitan museum of art in new york and is curator of photography and the civil war. In new york city until september, then traveling to charleston, South Carolina and new orleans. These objects are rare survivors from a moment 150 years ago. They were kept in Little Pocket albums, Little Leather albums, both by regular soldiers and by officers. They were kept on the person. Next to their heart. Next to their heart. This was found in the hands of a dead soldier after the battle of gettysburg. In these portraits, you see how young the soldiers were, often just boys, or how ferocious they tried to look. Photographs were already cheap, 50 to 75 cents with a fancy folding case. Five to 10 cents printed like glorified postcards. The contraption, is a posing stand that keeps the subjects head from moving. Subjects had to sit or stand absolutely still for as long as eight seconds then. Pictures were taken on glass plates and printed outside in the sun. There were field studios and tents with skylights. Very early on, photo supplies became almost impossible to get in the south, so photographers followed the union armies and edged closer and closer to the battlefield. Photojournalism was born during the civil war. These are soldiers preparing for that first land fight bull run, and there is an inscription on the back of the picture and it says, half an hour before the start at 3 00 oclock to fairfax courthouse, virginia. You could take pictures before the battle and after the battle, but not during the battle. Not really, because the camera really couldnt capture that movement. Alexander gardners camera captured the the dead of antietam after the bloodiest battle of our bloodiest war on september 17th, 1862, in fact, our Bloodiest Day ever with 23,000 dead and wounded. And then came gettysburg the following summer, 150 years ago this past week. The beauty of the place belies the awfulness in gardners photographs. Shocking to this day. You can still match locations then with now. Which adds to the intrigue of a famous photographic controversy. This is called home of a rebel sharpshooter and this is a sharpshooters last and it is the same sharpshooter in both pictures. How did that happen . Something just that the photographer gardner and his assistant sullivan found it in the open field and moved it to this little necessary city area. Other people believed the body was found here and removed by a burial detail to this location. Pictures of the wounded were equally grew some. A washington surgeon used them to teach medical students. These are emancipated slaves that were brought by the union army north in the middle of 1863 to have their photographs made. They are just these little fourinch size pictures and they were sold to raise money for the education of former slaves in louisiana. But abolitionists quickly figured out they were a powerful argument for the antislavery cause. Note how white some of the slave children look. And this. On the forehead of the standing figure to the left his name is wilson chin you see the initials bbm. Those are the initials of the plantation owner who branded his slaves with his own initials. This photo discouraged, found its way into the film lincoln. When you are a slave, do they beat you . I was born a freeman, nobody beat me except i beat them right back. Abraham lincoln understood the importance of photography even before the civil war. This photo taken in 1860 by matthew brady, americas most famous photographer at the time was reproduced in many forms. It was widely believed to have gotten candidate lincoln elected president. He was photographed often during his presidency. The change in him as the war took its toll, very plain, and when he was assassinated in april, 1865, photography was part of the manhunt. The first one to, the first wanted poster in American History with photographs, photography was everywhere and really saturated American Society and they just needed to actually go to the boardinghouse, to the family homes, to the friends of the likely conspirators to find pictures of them. John wilkes booth was killed, four were hanged, pictures taken at the gallos were printed gallows were printed and sold, people collected them, recognizing that the story they told was important. I think that we are as a nation only as good as our memory, and the facts of these photographs, their tradition gives us something that we cannot forget, what we really have is the beginning of an archive, an archive of who we are, or at least who we were. That is the treasury that we build our history from. A device called a mouse. Osgood ahead. I dont know why we call it a mouse. Sometimes i apologize. Osgood the man behind the mouse. Theres fruit, milk and im putting a little nutella on your wholewheat toast. Funny, that last part gets through. [ male announcer ] serving nutella is quick and easy. Prevent acid with prevacid 24hr. 02 with the computer we learned a lot about user features we want. There is a device called a mouse. Osgood it happened this week. The passing of an inventor whose handiwork is in millions of homes and offices maybe even yours. We use this tool to do our daily work. He died at his California Home roughly 49 years after creating the computer accessory known as the mouse. This is a very first mouse in the world and it was made in 1964. In an interview many years later he showed off his original wooden cased mouse, an indicator for a display system as it was called at the time. There is no great shake, the n invention was just putting things together that was already known. Up, down, sideways. A fracking spot. His modest understatement understated the invention when he first showed it off at a computer conference in 1968. I dont know why they call i a mouse. Sometimes i apologize. It started that way and we never did change it. Osgood he won a patent for his mouse in 1970 but he never made a fortune off of it. A mouse became commonplace in the late 1980s, his patented 17 year lifespan had expired. Po, force at least 1 billion mice or is it mouses have been sold worldwide to date, with changing technology its giewch is hardly guaranteed. Look at the sky. After all when the Starship Enterprise time traveled to the 20th century from the 23rd, computer. The mouse and pc left them stumped. Hello, computer. Just use the keyboard. Osgood but the mouse would eventually fade away would hardly have surprised its inventor. It is hard to believe it wont eventually be obsolete. Everybody started to think we are there, and we are just a little ways up a hill with lots to go. Lets get going. Osgood he was 98. Osgood ahead philadelphias own Bradley Cooper. Up high. Ok. It is sunday morning on cbs and here again is charles osgood. Osgood Bradley Coopers role in the hit 200 2009 movie e hang over won him a lot of new fans, fans to be added to the big cheering section Bradley Cooper had back in his hometown. We prepared this sunday profile. Bradley cooper is one of hollywoods biggest stars. The night the four of us will never forget. He played the leader of the wolf pack in the hang over movie. Mike tyson . The jerk in wedding crashers. Are you okay . Well, player, my head is buried in a toilet, why dont you do the math, okay . And the heartthrob in he is just not that into you. I have to actively stop my brain from thinking about you. And if that is not enough. In 2011, he was named people magazines sexiest man alive. What did your mother say . She was excited. That was incredible. Yeah, that was a wow. But it was his recent film Silver Linings playbook that made people make note of his serious side. The world is hard enough as it is guys, bleep , it is hard enough as it is, cant somebody say lets be positive and have a good ending to the story . Cooper was nominated for a screen actor gills award, a gold n globe. And as, and as on scar. Bradley cooper in Silver Lining playbook. He plays a bipolar teach whore is released from a Mental Hospital and returns home to his parents house in philadelphia with a plan to put his life back together. Were you scared to take the part . Yeah, i was scared. I couldnt see myself in the role and i think i was wrong, because i have more comfortable than as pat. Look, i dont think you are crazy, okay . Just like his character in the film coming home to philadelphia is comfortabling for Bradley Cooper. Hey, how are you . Nice ride. Oh, my gosh. We met him at the highway theatre near his boyhood home in the philly suburb of jenkins town where much to his surprise, the only movie playing was his. Oh, how convenient. I know how cool is that . What does it mean to be a philly guy . Philly is a very idiosyncratic city. I have a tremendous amount of pride because my familys roots are embedded in philly. I spent a lot of time when i was growing up spending the days with my mother and she was a big shopper. Oh, really . His italian mother gloria stayed home with bradley and his sister holly, his irish father charles was a stockbroker. After work, he would teach his son about movies. Apocalypse now and deer hunter, taxi driver and raging bull. And you were young. I was young, i was like 11, 12. I was mainly excited because i saw how much he was excited and i idolized him. So when you sat here in this theatre as a kid, did you think at all like, i would love to be an actor . Oh, hundreds, 100 percent, yes. It was a joke for people around me that this little kid was saying oh he is going to be an actor. Really . I did when i saw the elephant man i knew it, it crystallized and i thought this is what waynt to do with my life and i never swayed from that. Soon, he was rehearsing in his backyard. So yes, i would come out of my house and walk which my mother hated because she thought it was so dangerous. Get off the track. Yep. This is great, thank you. And movies like platoon or especially sand by me, because stand by me was all about train tracks and kids. And so me and my friends would pretend we were in stand by. But before he would become an actor there was one thing cooper knew he had to do. I definitely put a lot of pressure on myself knowing that my father basically is an example of the american dream, so i had to go to college. He applied to georgetown university, but didnt get in. It was a major thing, and it was a major bonding between me and my father, actually, the one thing that he always really instilled in me was a belief in me. He tried again and was accepted a year later, studying english and french, he graduated with honors, then in 1999 while studying acting in new york he landed a small part in sex in the city. I need some smokes. Join me . We were shooting 14th street at 2 00 a. M. With Sarah Jessica parker and i loved it and i got to go back to school the next day. Back to reality. Yeah. Cooper worked steadily in movies and tv including a part on alias. Scared. But while his career grew, so did hollywoods temptations. Like drugs and alcohol. Just watching myself and i thought, oh, wow i am actually going to sabotage my whole life, i didnt really recognize myself, i was lost. Friends helped get him back on track, just in time for 2005s wedding crashers. That made him a star, but cooper would cement his place on hollywoods a list with 2009s blockbuster comedy the hang over. I think it is safe to say all, our luck has officially turned around, guy we are back, baby. The success the hang over had was absolutely phenomenal. The hang over and its sequel made over a billion dollars worldwide part three came out in may. I just couldnt believe i got cast in the hang over, so i sort of gave up trying to rationalize my life a long time ago. The fact i am here with you on this show that i grew up watching with my grandparents, you know, with charles kuralt, that is surreal. Thats right, thats right. And it seems all of Bradley Coopers success has given him a new perspective. The older you get, you start to appreciate where you came from and when i was living here i thought, i didnt feel the way i do now, now i just love it, i kind of dont want to let it go. And so he doesnt. This is the first like kiss with a woman, with a girl i was in love with right here. Nice. At the noble train station. My grandfathers buick regal right there. I got you a couple of them. He is 38 now and known as one of the nicest guys in hollywood. He comes home whenever he can. Welcome back. Thank you, thank you. What is your name. Elaine. Elaine. Just watch the hang over again for the 15th time last night. Nice. Got to love it. Thanks. Hey, guys. How is it going . Yeah. And Hometown Food is always on his mind. So cooper visits his favorite spots. Starbucks . Yes, i do. Then heads down to the pond where his family used to feed the ducks after super. We went here no matter what, no matter what. Sacred time. Say grace and the four of us would a tradition that would carry on whenever he came home, until his father, his hero died two years ago after a long illness. My dad and i, see this street right here, we planted this tree. You are kidding me. Yeah. And it was literally this big. Oh, a little sapling and look at it now. Yeah. All these years after his dad taught him to believe in himself, another side of Bradley Cooper has been revealed. And hollywood clearly likes what it sees. Oh, thanks, bro. You are a philly boy, through and through. I mean, it is like crazy. So he always remembers the town where he first fell in love with the silver screen. Have a good weekend. Whose birthday is it . Your birthday . Happy birthday. Thank you. Do you feel lucky. Oh, i mean there is no question. I am beyond lucky. Oh, you like this . Oh, thank you. And on saturday, the knapp opens its annual convention in orlando, florida. Today the eyes of the world remain fixed on egypt where the largest of arab countries rapes in flux after a week of turmoil. Ward was there through it all and has found this sunday journal. They came out in the millions, choking the streets and squares of cities across the country and filling the air with one simple chant. Leave the message was directed at egypts first democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi. Protesters like accused him of pushing the islamic agenda and Muslim Brotherhood too far. The they cratic government instead of being ruled by, it is a dictatorship and now being ruled by a islamic dictatorship which is worse. One year after he became president egypts economy is in atatters and rebellion of the countrys police force has resulted in the breakdown of law and order. Retired egyptian general told us that the countrys allpowerful military has no choice but to step in. He was democratically elected in a fair election, he won. Thats right. He has a right to finish his term. Yes, you are right. He is right, but to wait on we see our country completely collapse. This past monday, the army issued morsi with an ultimatum, meet the needs of the egyptian people within 48 hours or the army will intervene. Two days later they made good on their promise, morsi was out. While the protesters called it a triumph of the will of the people, morsi supporters called it a coup. That is my president , flat is my president , this man shouted. The military began a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood. The group warned us that morsi supporters would not back down. Trying to dismantle the brotherhood machine and operation apparently for fear that the president ial action we may show up and win again. On friday, the group called for a day of rejection of the military coup. Protests turned to clashes that spread throughout the city and the country. By the end of the night, dozens were dead. The only thing that we have is the will of the people, nothing more. And the only thing that they have is the tanks, it will fail. Whether or not this next chapter is successful, depends largely on how quickly the chapter is successful, depends largely on how quickly the countrys interim president adli mansour can appoint a prime minister, organize a government and organize for a new president ial election to be held. The general conceded there is no obvious leader waiting in the wings. None of them, i think, are qualified from my point of view, i dont want to see anyone of these leaders for the time being to be my president. A frightening reality, a country that is now deeply divided and bracing itself for more protests. Osgood Clarissa Ward in cairo.
