Governor Chris Christie of new jersey and his family had island state beach park all to themseves yesterday, one of the beaches he shut down. It was closed to the public, but the governor has a residence there. Tony dokoupil has more on the budget failures. Reporter instead of relaxing at Liberty State Park or island beach, residents of new jersey are protesting this weekend because those parks and more than 50 other state recreation areas are closed. It put state services at risk. Illinois hasnt had a budget in three years. Maine and new jersey began partial shutdowns over the weekend. Here we are at an impasse. Reporter new jersey governor Chris Christie ordered the shutdown, but on hundreds of state buildings he put the blame on general speaker vincent prieto. That is a line in the sand for me. Reporter prieto is refusing a plan for drug addiction fearing premiums would increase. So far the shutdown is mainly being felt at major parks like this one. Thousands of state workers are furloughed. We want to work. We want to work.
