This morning, political opponents of Hillary Clinton are sifting through thousands of pages offer emails she sent or received while serving as secretary of state. The state Department Released more than 7,000 pages of clintons emails last night and about 150 have been censored because they now contain classified material. Its the latest chapter in the investigation into clintons controversial private email system, a controversy that is taking a toll on her president ial campaign. Brooks silva braga is in new york with more. Reporter good morning. From those 7,000 pages of emails, we have learned Chelsea Clinton played an Important Role in assessing the response of the haiti earthquake. And we have learned how the former secretary takes her tea. The biggest controversy is what we couldnt read. The most notable emails from the latest batch of Hillary Clintons private server are ones the state department couldnt fully released. As many ass 150 censored ahead of their release on monday because they contained classified information. The former secretary of state has maintained that the messages were not seen as sensitive at the time, even if they are now. It doesnt change the fact that i did not send or receive material marked classified. Reporter the emails show clinton working on serious issues like haiti disaster relief, but also dealing with requests from friends, unsolicited advice, and trouble with technology. In one email, she asks an assistant to pick up skim milk and find out when the good wife airs. So many of the emails needed censoring is Reince Priebus says Hillary Clintons email scandal shows she cannot be trusted with the white house. Email questions are likely to persist as the state department screens and releases more messages each month. The state Department Says the information they deleted from these emails wasnt top secret, but confidential, that is the lowest level of classification. A state Department Official confirmed none of them were marked classified at the time, but there are still thousands of emails to be sorted through. Annemaria . Thanks a lot, brook. Phoenix residents hope todays sunny hot weather will help them dry out from last nights monsoon. The heavy rain and powerful winds triggered flash floods that stranded drivers. The roads are totally backed up. I tried opening my car door and the water was coming in my car so, yes, its crazy out there. Wind gusts of near 70 Miles Per Hour were recorded. Buildings damaged and trees and power lines were knocked down. The Phoenix Airport was shut down for more than an hour. The remnants of Tropical Storm erika continue to soak central florida. More rain falling through the overnight hours. Roads were flooded and several thousand people lost power and more wet weather is expected today. And a historic pack of three powerful hurricanes is swirling in the eastern and central pacific. It is the first time three such powerful storms have been recorded there at the same time. Yesterday, hawaii dodged a hit from hurricane ignacio which had weakened just a bit. The man accused of shooting and killing a houston area sheriff executionstyle has a history of mental illness. Shannon miles appeared in court yesterday. Authorities say he ambushed and shot Deputy Darren goforth 15 times friday night. The d. A. Says they have a witness. He heard gunshots and looked up and saw a black male with a bald head shooting, standing over Deputy Goforth and unloading a pistol into him. Miles was captured at his mothers house. His Attorney Says he intends to plead not guilty. Miles is due back in court october 5th. A video appears to show a texas man with his hands in the air being fatally shot by sheriffs deputies. The deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance in san antonio friday. Police say the suspect Gilford Flores was armed and resisted arrest. A Department Statement says the deputies tried nonlethal weapons before they shot flores. The bexar countys Sheriffs Department calls it a cause for concern and asking for calm and patience, the statement says. We are diligently working to complete the investigation so we can move to the next step. This morning, the kentucky county clerk who refused to issue samesex marriage licenses has a decision to make. Yesterday, the United StatesSupreme Court ruled against kim davis who says samesex marriage goes against her christian conviction. If she doesnt start issuing licenses, she could be hit with fines or jail time. This is the second day of president obamas visit to alaska. Today, he is set to hike on a glacier and take a boat tour. On monday, he kicked off his visit of warning in no Uncertain Terms about the consequences of not addressing climate change. Danielle nottingham reports. Reporter president obama posted this photo of north americas highest peak on instagram shortly before air force one landed in anchorage on monday. He used alaskas spectacular scenery as his backdrop to urge swift action on melting glaciers and rising sea levels and coastal erosion and shrinking fish harvest. Mckinleys name back to denali also has people talking. It sends such a positive message to our community. Reporter alaskans have always referred to north americas highest mountain as denali, which translates to the great one in the native language. Congress named it to honor president William Mckinley of ohio in 1917. Officials in mckinleys home state say changing the name now is inappropriate. Mr. Obama graduated from columbia in 1983. The talk started when columbias president mentioned that he looked forward to welcoming back the schools most famous alumnus. In a statement, the white house stated he has long respect for Columbia University and his desire to continue working with them, however, at this point, no decisions have been finalized about his postpresidency plans. The penalty phase of the trial starts today for the white supremacist convicted of killing three people at jewish sites in suburban kansas city last year. The jury found Frazier Glynn Miller guilty monday of capital murder. He gave a nazi salute and says he hoped to die a martyr. Friends are saying goodbyes to two tv journalists killed last week. Hundreds attended the Memorial Service monday in martinsville for alison parker, the reporter shot and killed live on tv. They shared their memories of the 24yearold, including her love of dance and theater. More than a thousand people honored parkers cameraman adam ward monday. They gathered at Salem High School in virginia for a viewing. A funeral for ward will be held today in roanoke. Coming up on the morning news, Controversial Police stops. Dayton, ohio, Police Officer telling a driver that he was pulled over for making direct eye contact. The driver don felton posted the video he recorded during the traffic stop last month on facebook. The unidentified officer gives felton a warning for not signaling properly. Felton and the officer have agreed to sit down for a conversation about the incident. The Dayton Police department issued a statement saying, quote, making direct eye contact with an officer is not a basis for a traffic stop. Police in baltimore are cancelling leave for all officers during Court Hearings that start tomorrow for six officers accused in the death of freddie gray. The 25yearolds death was caused by injuries while in Police Custody in april and that triggered protests and violence that injured more than a hundred Police Officers. The Police Commissioner wants all hands on deck. Our intelligence is not predicting unrest. We do know that there will, undoubtedly, be some some level of protests or presence by a lot of folks. The mayor says that baltimore is prepared. And police in phoenix, arizona, are looking for someone who is shooting at vehicles on interstate 10. Mondays Early Morning shooting hit the windshield of a bus. It was the fourth shooting in three days. Investigators say its unclear where the bullets are coming from, or if there is any connection between the vehicles being hit. State police are asking for help from the public to catch the freeway shooter or shooters. If its somebody you know or you were in the car with that particular person or you were on the side of the road with the person that did this, we will pay you for the information by silent witness. The smoking rate was about 15 for the first three months of this year. But that survey data tends to be skewed by the temporary impact of new years resolutions. Last year, the smoking rate dropped to 17 , down from 18 in 2013. Cigarette smoke may be down. But new Research Finds that regular marijuana use is actually on the rise among college students. The study by the university of michigan found that just under 6 said that they had used Marijuana Daily or at least 20 times in the previous 30 days. The s p 500 was down 17 points and the nasdaq finished 15 51 points lower. Despite a recent security breach, the infidelity website Ashley Madison is growing. The company that runs the site says hundreds of thousands of users signed up last week. In august, hackers released Ashley Madison customer data, company emails, and other documents. Yahoo ceo marisa meyer is pregnant. She announced on social media she is expecting twin girls in september. She plans to work throughout. Reporter the plane was diverted to denver with a fighter escort after a Flight Attendant was reportedly struck by the screaming woman. A passenger took this video as this model was escorted off the plane. I think this woman is mental ill. [ speaking in Foreign Language ] reporter information posted about her indicates she has participated in numerous beauty contests and modeling shoots, but for passengers stuck in colorado for a day, she was trouble.
