Soldiers to help with a fire in washington state. Fires are burning in seven states. In california alone, theyre destroying 1,000 acres an hour. Extreme heat is making the battle all the more difficult. It has been a very hot day in much of the country. More about that in a moment. This is the view from the lake where at least three dozen homes were destroyed and 2,700 people were forced to flee. And the flames still burn inside one of many homes lost here in this lakeside community. And for the residents who lived here, the loss is immeasurable. It was pretty scary. I have never seen a firestorm like this travel this fast. Reporter Reggie Collins is the c. E. O. Of chelan fruit thmpany. He escaped the flames, but the business did not. He estimates his losses at 80 million. His sister carmens home burned im the ground. She barely made it out. Unfortunately for my sister, this is a terrible, terrible loss. Reporter in california, 13,000 firefighters are battling 19 active fires. Near los angeles, crews battled tripledigit heat as they tried to contain five separate wildfires that jumped roads and brought down power lines. Chris reed, l. A. County fire. We had dry fuel, so we just get the simplest gust of wind, and it would just carry those embers across the road and start another area. Reporter washington fire spokesman Wayne Patterson says crews in the west are calling for reinforcements from across the country. How are Crews Holding up . Crews are starting to get stretched very, very thin, as fast as they can get down, get a couple days of relaxation, theyre back up and going again. In fact, record highs expected tomorrow, triple digits all across the southwest reaching up into california, even portland, oregon near 100 degrees, and seattle creeping closer to 90. So the heat putting a lot of stress on all those on the frontlines. In the middle of the country, focusing on severe storms this evening. Colorado reaching up into wyoming. This storm becomes a potent one tomorrow moving into the midwest. Watching for severe storms across iowa and reaching down through the central plains.
