777. Now investigators are working to confirm what appears likely that it is the first piece of Malaysia Flight 370 to be found since the plane vanished 17 months ago. Seth doane now on what could be the first piece of the puzzle. Reporter the debris that washed ashore appeared to be part of the wing known as a flaperon of a boeing 777 aircraft, and today boeing confirmed that the serial number found on the wreckage belonged to one of their aircraft parts. The flaperon will be taken to france for more analysis including examining the barnacles to see if it matches something submerged for roughly 500 days. Australias transport minister warren truss called the find a major lead. This is, obviously, a very significant development. Its the first real evidence that there is a possibility that a part of the aircraft may have been found. Reporter the flaperon is part of the wing that helps control the aircrafts speed on landing. It was discovered on reunion island 2,300 miles west of the current search zone in the southern indian ocean. But investigators say computer models indicate debris could have floated that far, pulled by ocean currents, and the discovery would likely not change the search area.
