Pelley finally tonight Jurassic World took in a record 524 Million Worldwide in its debut weekend. But in making box office history, did it rewrite dinosaur science . Sk we asked ben tracy to drill down to the bedrock. Ep reporter lets face it Jurassic World is not a documentary about dinosaurs, but how realistic are these prehistoric predators . Dr. Michael habib, a paleontologist at the university of Southern California says thesc science in the movie was only half bad. How scientifically accurate is this movie . About as scientifically accurate as your average Science Fiction flick, which is not particularly. Al if there are some animals in it that are fairly realistic inre terms of their anatomy. The way in which they run, the way in which the feet interact with the ground all looked really good. Reporter one of the things habib says the movie gets wrong, the dinosaurs hands, which in reality, they could not use them to pick up or tear through things the way they do on screen, but he says the biggest disappointment is that the movie ignores one of the most significant dinosaur discoveries of the past two decades, many of them had feathers, similar to birds, especially velociraptor which the film still shows as being scaly and, well, featherless. And action reporter the filmmakers hired a biologist to make the film as accurate as possible but they say the main goal wasle to simply make it fun to watch. Welcome to jurassic park. Reporter but if you want to get picky, even the title of the entire franchise is not quite right. Most of these dinosaurs were from the cretaceous period, notta jurassic. Ld be triceratops would be cretaceous. But its doubtful a movie called cretaceous world wouldut have sold so many tickets. Pelley thats the cbs evening news for tonight. Org now at 6 00, a citywide crime spike and a plan to put more cops on the street but not if one supervisor has his way. Good evening. Im ken bastida. And im veronica de la cruz. San francisco supervisors are fighting both sides of the debate over adding officers. New at 6 00, our phil matier with why the push for more police is causing a big backlash. Thats right. Oakland, san jose a number of cities in california are struggling to hire more cops. San francisco is a wash in money. They want to hire more too. But some supervisors are saying not so fast. Heres the story. Reporter a lot of the fight depends on what image comes in to your mind when you hear the word cop. Is it over the top police force displayed in ferguson missouri . Or this broken car window south of market . As a country we are being riveted by what is happening in baltimore, ferguson. People are questioning the role of the cops and how the cops do their work. Reporter for police chief suhr whos down 300 cops, its about the busted car window. Theres a direct correlation to how the Police Staffing goes down and the crime bars go up. When you look at pure cities like philadelphia, washington, d. C. Or chicago we have significantly fewer Police Officers per capita. Theres not a Police District in San Francisco asking for more officers on foot. It resembles more of a police state response than a humane response. Here in the south of market where auto breakins have risen a staggering 87 this year, the debate raises as well. That would be a good idea. Maybe some more intimidation so it
