Capital. This is not good people. Approximately two minutes later, tourists captured the chopper as it came in for a landing on the west lawn. At the control 61yearold doug hues, a postal worker who wanted to stage a stunt andnt deliver letters to Congress DemandingCampaign Finance reform. Im going to land on the capital mall in front of the capitol building. Im going to have 535 letters strapped to the gear. His quest was chronicled by the Tampa Bay Times for several months but only covered it today. I carefully planned it so nobody would get hurt. Reporter on april 10th hughes left florida after loading his gyrocopter on to a trailer. He drove to pennsylvania and left from an airfield around gettysburg this morning. He headed toward washington at low altitude and flue into the restricted flight zones around the capitol. In a statement, the federalon Aviation Administration told us t the pilot was not in contact with f. A. A. Air traffic controllers, and the f. A. A. Did not authorize him to enter restricted air space. But he made it to the capitol. Once he was on the ground. Police surrounded the gyrocopter. Then they took hughes into custody and deployed the bomb squad to make sure there were no explosives. A friend of hughes tells us that the secret service knew that he had something planned, and agents interviewed him about a year ago. The Tampa Bay Times did not tell the secret service about this specific plan until today but that was after hughes had taken off. Today the former new England Patriots tight end was found guilty of firstdegree murderde and was quickly sentenced to life without parole. Anna werner is following the case. Jurors took seven days to find hernandez guilty of murdering his friend odin lloyd in june ofin 2013. Lloyds body was found in an Industrial Park less than a mile from hernandezs home. Aaron hernandez may have been a wellknown new England Patriots football player, however, in the end the jury found that he was just a man who committed a brutal murder. Ci most of the evidence against him was circumstantial, but there was a lot of it. In text messages, hernandez urged lloyd to meet him the night he was killed. A neighbors surveillance camera captured lloyd getting enter a car that prosecutors said was driven by hernandez. Surveillance video from hernandezs own home showed him holding something resembling a gun the day lloyd was killed. Video also showed his fiancee, shayanna jenkins, removing a box from their home.
