A longtime employee of the White House Personnel Security Office claims 25 people denied clearances because of disqualifying issues in their backgrounds were granted access anyway. The head of a Congressional Committee sent a letter asking why some aides were given security clearances. The group in question includes the president s daughter and soninlaw. Major garrett is at the white house with more. Reporter the memo ou Oversight Committee chairman Elijah Cummings said a white house whistleblower named Tricia Newbold complained that 25 officials were granted security clearances despite disqualifying issues raised by herself and other career officials. In an interview with Committee Staff nine days ago, newbold said she came forward because she could not sit back knowing that the issues that we have could impact National Security. Newbold said three unnamed senior white house officials, two of whom still work there, drew objections due to concerns about potential foreign influence, conflict of interest, or business entanglements. The house Oversight Committee has asked the white house for security clearancerelated documents for ivanka trump, son inlaw and white house adviser jared kushner, and National Security adviser john bolton. Newbold lives near baltimore and did not respond to our request for comment. I am convinced that she simply wants government to run the way government is supposed to run. Reporter President Trump does have the authority to grant security clearances regardless of staff objections or warnings. Kushner faced delays in his security clearance approval before the president pushed it through, according to the new york times. But the president denied involvement. I was never involved with the security. I know that there was issues back and forth about security for numerous people, actually. But i dont want to get involved in that stuff. Reporter jim jordan, the ranking republican on the house Oversight Committee, accused the chairman, chairman cummings, of cherry picking newbolds testimony. About all this, the white house had no comment. Glor major, also tonight democrats are expected to take action this week regarding the mueller report. What do we know right now . Reporter the House Judiciary Committee intends to vote wednesday to subpoena the full report and all of its underlying evidence. Attorney general william barr has pledged to provide a redacted version of that report by midapril. Barr has said Justice Department rules prohibit the public release of certain information like that dealing with ongoing investigations. Democrats, though, jeff, point out in rare instances, those rules have been waived, most recently during the investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server. Police say this Surveillance Video shows Samantha Josephson talking on her phone and getting into what she thought was an uber early friday morning. We dont know when samantha realized she got into the wrong car, but once she did, police say there was no escape. Her father seymour explained why. She had absolutely no chance. None. The door was locked. The Child Safety Locks were on. Reporter police say the driver, 24yearold nathaniel rowland, was not an uber driver.
