Reporter well, bianna, the good news is that the woman who was on the statue of liberty, who had climbed up, and the Police Officers who were there to get her down safely, accomplished that. They all are safe and no one was injured. This all began around 3 00 p. M. This afternoon as people started to notice, hey, wait a minute, theres a woman climbing the statue of liberty on the fourth of july. Heres the back story theres a group called rise and resist new york. They took a ferry out to the island, a large group of them. What they wanted to do was unfurl a banner, which they did, at the lower level of the statue that said abolish ice. Seven of them, according to one of their Group Members who has given us a firsthand account of all this, they were arrested, brought into custody. They were waiting for the ferry to come when they heard, from the police actually, look, theres a woman on the statue of liberty. And what they have told us is, this woman is a member of their group. She had gone out with the group, but this was unilateral action on her part to protest, which obviously got a lot of attention. But shes down now, police have gotten her down. Thats the good news. Golodryga fortunately no one was injured. Anna werner in Lower Manhattan, thank you. Esarly 3,000 firefighters have been working around the clock, lighting backfires and building a containment line in an effort to keep the flames at bay. The wildfire is threatening more eean 1,000 homes and buildings. Hundreds of residents were told to evacuate. Its a little nervewracking because grass fires move so fast. Reporter the fear now is that this fire could overtake a mountain highway thats used by travelers heading to nearby lake bariessa, a popular holiday destination. Intense smoke has already snuffed out the fourth of july celebrations here. We have had zero launches, zero rentals, zero customers. Reporter wildfires also continue to rage in colorado, where the spring fire alone has devoured an area larger than the ty of detroit, as well as destroying more than 100 homes. And in utah, officials ordered more residents to leave, as firefighters struggle to contain fastmoving flames east of salt lake city. Back here in californias yolo county, Chris Turkovich worries about his family vineyard. The grapes will actually tusorb some of that smoke, and thats a big problem. Reporter persistent heavy smoke is blanketing the buntainside here, creating another challenge for firefighters, who in this fire season are already battling many challenges. Well, we have an update tonight on a man and a woman who became critically ill in britain last saturday under mysterious circumstances. It turns out they were poisoned sb the town of amesbury by the same nerve agent used on an ex russian spy and his daughter, enst seven miles away. Charlie dagata is following it all. Reporter british media have heentified the victims as dawn sturgess and charlie rowley, fighting for their lives. Tonight, Scotland Yard confirmed what many had feared. Following the Detailed Analysis of those samples, we can confirm that the man and woman have been exposed to the nerve agent novichok. Reporter the same nerve agent used to poison double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter yulia in march, an attack britain blamed on russia that triggered International Condemnation and eventually led to the expulsion of hundreds of u. S. , british, and Russian Diplomats from both sides of the f ght. U. Ramedics rushed to this home on saturday morning after receiving a call from a man saying that his partner had collapsed. M ey returned later that afternoon after he started suffering from the same rtmptoms. One theory is the couple may have stumbled across a deadly amount of the nerve agent possibly dumped after the attack. This raised alarm bells around here. They cordoned off the entire park where the couple visited, and this is less than a mile from where the skripals were poisoned four months ago. Tlice say theres nothing in the couples background to suggest they were deliberately targeted. Scotland yard tried to reassure residents that areas decontaminated after the skripal htack are safe, but now whvestigators will have to determine just how, where, and when these new victims were exposed. Bianna . Is golodryga another quiet british town once again on edge. Thank you. In thailand, 12 boys and a chccer coach are spending a 13th day trapped deep inside a flooded cave. But outside the cave, rescuers are struggling to come up with a plan to bring the boys out safely. , e local governor says the children are being given a crash course in swimming. They have tried on dive masks that would allow them to breathe underwater if rescuers decide to attempt what would be a very dangerous and long swim through the dark and narrow cave. Im if you dont know how to swim and youre in a very black environment which could kill you r side a cave, thats not a Good Environment to learn in. Reporter the plan for now is utis they are trying to furiously pump as much water out if this cave as possible. The hope is if they bring the water level down far enough, it r ll be more safe for the kids or try to swim out, or better yet, they could wade or walk out. Rescue crews have been staging rehearsals for how they would enmove the boys by ambulance from the scene after they escape the cave. Meanwhile, on wednesday, a ilvered monk led prayers at the site for family and friends of the trapped children. They are worried about the cave flooding again this weekend when monsoon rains are supposed to return. T they have now found two places where rain was entering the cave, and theyve blocked those up. Our clients are outraged. Reporter tom merriman represents more than 200 clients, including sierra mathews, who lost their eggs or embryos at the clinics. You cant have it both ways. You cant go on national tv and tell the world that youre sorry and that youre taking responsibility, and then send an army of lawyers into a courthouse when people arent paying attention and file ntwers where you deny all responsibility. In our faces theyre saying one thing, and then behind nd bything else, they are going behind and not only calling us victims, but blaming us in the same breath, saying this is our fault and we should have known better. The cost of learning to fly is almost three times more expensive than it was in the 90s. And after this deadly crash in 2009, new pilots were required to fly for 1,500 hours before being eligible for hire. Fw hire corey cave spent tens of thousands of dollars to log enough hours. The cost just delayed me a little bit. Many of our young pilots have 250,000, 300,000 of debt when they come work for a regional carrier.
