Once among the most admired people in the nation, a role model who some called americas dad, cosby now faces a long stretch in prison. Cosby, 80 years old, was convicted today of three counts of aggravated indecent assault in a crime that dates back more than a decade. Jericka duncan begins our coverage from the courthouse in norristown, pennsylvania. After the verdict was read, there were tears and cheers from inside the pennsylvania courtroom, with emotions spilling outside the courtroom and into the hallway. What are you feeling right now . Im. For 14 years, Andrea Constand waited for justice, looking relieved and confident, the 45 yearold canadian walked into todays News Conference with a message through her attorney, delores treany although justice was delayed, it was not denied. Reporter constand has maintained that in 2004, cosby gave her pills to help her relax but the pills left her body limp and paralyzed. She says it was then that cosby sexually assaulted her in his philadelphiaarea home. Several woman who had also accused bill cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them, were in court today, overcome by the verdict. District attorney kevin steele held back tears as he talked about constands bravery. 19 were willing to stand up with us in this prosecution, take the witness stand, and we are humbled by the courage all of them showed. Reporter cosby, who is now facing up to 30 years behind bars, plans to appeal. Defense attorney tom measero we are very disappointed by the verdict. We dont think mr. Cosby is guilty of anything, and the fight is not over. Reporter for cosby, this conviction is the end of an era. Over three decades, the philadelphiaborn comic became famous for creating fat albert and the groundbreaking cosby show. He was seen as a father figure to millions, plaguing dr. Cliff huxtable. After his first trial ended in a hung jury, cosbys new attorneys offered a new approach, painted Andrea Constand as a con artist and pathological liar, but that did not sway the jury. Rikki, i know you have been following this case for years. First of all, i want to ask you again, you covered this so much, rikki, does this verdict surprise you . Not at all. The difference in trial one to trial two was that you had one other accuser. This time, you had five. So when you have six people talking about a common scheme or plan, that is a big, big difference. The other thing, of course, is timing. The me too movement certainly is the elephant in the room. The jury, although they said they would not be affected by it, people today believe an accuser, whereas a year ago, one accuser might not be believed at all. But six . No, that didnt surprise me. Glor rikki, cosbys lawyers say they will appeal. Does he have a chance . Well, he certainly has many issues, going all the way back to the fact that he believed he was promised that he would not be prosecuted, and, therefore, he participated in a civil deposition. Evidence of that deposition came into this trial, including evidence about quaaludes, when the case was about benadryl. Then theres exculpatory evidence that the defense did not get to present.
