The chief has been pushing for a Pilot Program allowing 100 officers to carry them and they would undergo special training on how to use the devices on the mentally ill. The ship called the overseas ray mar hit tower 6 on the western span back on the morning of january 7th. Fog was thick and we know the pilot changed course at the lastminute. While additional toe tails of the crash remain under investigation, repair work began today. Chopper 5 spotted contractors preparing to remove parts of that damaged section. Fenders are made of steel and recycled plastics and act like bumpers around the towers. Because the fender system took the brunt of the impact, the structure of the bridge itself was not damaged. Repairing what was will not be cheap. It could top 2 million to 3 million so whos footing the bill . Cal tran officials want the owner of the ship osp Ship Management to pay but because they cant wait are using money in emergency reserves from the bay area toll authority.
