>> keep it all coming. all right, roberta, thanks. antioch city council meeting tonight could turn into a union battle. that's because the city is expected to approve what critics are calling a sweetheart deal for police officers. simon perez explains why other unions say that they are getting shortchanged in the deal. allen, we are here in antioch where the city council is trying to cut several hundred thousand dollars out of its budget over the next few months. one group of public employees is saying that the budget cutting plan is just not fair. the 50 or so employees who labor in the antioch public works department feel this. >> it's also a matter of fairness in that if you are going to ask people to make you sacrifice, you need to ask everybody. >> reporter: they are drawing up protest signs because they say the city of antioch is trying to close a budget gap by picking on them and not the police department. >> have them pay only 3% for retirement for just six months and yet they are asking to us pay 3% now forever and to add 2% more next year and 2% more the year after that. >> reporter: so the rub is they are not treating everybody the same? >> correct. >> what's wrong why that? >> it goes against our sense of fairness. >> reporter: public works employees also took a 10% pay cut but the police union members made some sacrifices, too. they agreed to put off raises of 4.8% in 2009, 2.9% in 2010, .9% this month, and between 2 and 5% in september. the department also agreed to begin paying 3% towards retirement up from 0. that saves antioch nearly a million dollars. in exchange, the city agreed not to lay off any officers and agreed to bring back 6 officers who were laid off in december. all those police concessions are good only through next january when the current police contract is up. the concessions of public works employee union local 1 made are through 2013. >> the city has said to us, and everybody else, we need even more. we need to extend these concessions two more years and get even more from you. >> as of tonight, [ indiscernible ] six of seven unions with concessions. the only union we don't have concessions from is union 1. because everybody has different schedules and contracts, the goal is to have everything close to even. >> reporter: many of those public works employees who don't feel they are being treated fairly are expected to show up here tonight to picket that meeting that starts at 7:00. in antioch, i'm simon perez, cbs 5. need another excuse to spend more time on facebook?
