A chp tried to pull her over. Then she exited on mission and van ness and the chase began. She led officers through small streets in the mission and in that short time she hit one car that rolled forward and hit a cyclist. That cyclist was taken to San Francisco General Hospital is expected to be okay. But after that she continued on to hit another parked car that one we showed you when we first were here at the beginning of our shot before hitting another light pole at 17th and van ness knocking out the traffic lights in this area which are still currently out. Now back out live you can see just that damage that the driver caused again, one of two parked cars that this female hit in the course of leading officers on that chase. Again, also injuring a cyclist in the course of that. But again, that cyclist is expected to be okay. But when i spoke to a chp officer on the phone its because another person was involved now she is facing some serious charges and he gave me those. She will be facing a felony dui, reckless evading including dui enhancement meaning she has had multiple duis in the past years. As far as the investigation is concerned, they will be investigating each collision later on. Cate caugiran, cbs 5. Crews are on the scene of a second suspicious fire in vallejo overnight. This twoalarm fire started around 3 00 inside the village bar on tuolumne street. A few hours earlier crews battled another suspicious house fire nearby. At this time investigators have no cause for either fire. Nobody was injured. Good news there. We have a crew headed to the scene and well bring you the very latest on the investigation coming up in our next hour. Another structure fire this morning. This one right here in San Francisco. All the smoke forcing residents out of their homes early this morning. Fire crews arrived on the scene on noe street around 2 a. M. They say it all started in a wall heater. A lot of water and smoke damage. Smoke detectors got neighbors out of bed into the streets. Ton of smoke coming out. So i went back in and got my roommate and told him about it and he got out of the house. Less than an hour ago, fire crews allowed residents to return back inside their homes. Something went terribly wrong when a group took its nightly walk into the east bay hills. A hiker plunged to his death on the ucberkeley campus. The mans body was found on the edge of campus. The 20yearold man disappeared while walking with friends. They called 911 about 6 30 last night. University police found his body about 200 feet down a steep ravine. Foul play is not suspected but the death is still under investigation. 5 04 now. San jose is facing a serious safety problem, a shortage of officers patrolling their streets. Facing lower wages and benefits, for san jose officers are resigning. There are now less than 1,000 officers in the department available for full duty. 583 are patrolling the streets in a city of nearly a Million People. There is no wiggle room. Anytime you move personnel, youll be robbing peter to pay paul. Thats the reality that we live in. Mayor reed says 44 men and women are going through the academy right now. Those officers should be ready to hit streets of san jose next june. Closing arguments set in Contra Costa County this morning in the case of a man who killed his exgirlfriend and another man at the Richmond San Rafael bridge toll plaza. This is the penalty phase in the trial of Nathan Burris who was convicted of the two murders last week. He could face the death penalty. Two women home alone fought off an armed prowler. The suspect may have stab wounds in the chest. According to police he broke that a san rafael apartment tuesday night. The women say he was armed with a knife. He got into a fight with one of them of the the other roommate grabbed a phone and called police. Other neighbors say they heard yelling. Kind of scary when you have young people in the house with you, too. The victim, who was being attacked, turned the knife on the assailant and the women told police that he ran away. Police alerted nearby hospitals that the suspect may try to seek medical attention. Rain and a lot of it expected later this week and thats a big worry in the area hit by the mud slide in daly city. They are doing what they can now to protect the neighborhood around hillside park. That includes stacking bales of hay and clearing out storm drains. Hay will contain the mud and keep it from doing any more damage after tuesdays big mud slide. So were going to take our Remote Control tv camera to go into the pipe itself and then get to the storm drain and identify where this is. Then we can excavate it out and divert water to the location. Officials dont expect more problems from the 8 pipe that broke but its likely to take weeks to get the pipe fixed. 5 06 lets get a check on the weather. Rain becoming more likely as we head throughout the day tomorrow and thats going to open the storm door, i think a stronger storm moves in toward late saturday into sunday. They are getting the chance to perform in front of millions and they are sharing the spotlight with another band halfway around the world. Valley Christian High School is this weeks cool school. They were selected to perform in the tournament of roses parade in pasadena. The parade, watched by 40 Million People worldwide, is competitive. Hundreds of bands applied and only 22 were chosen including valley christian. Definitely probably one of the biggest accomplishments that a High School Band can get. Reporter and they are sharing the accomplishment of another band beijing 57 all the way in china. In april valley christian traveled to beijing. Now through technology the two bands practice their songs together bridging the cultural gap with music. Whatever you cant say with words, you can let out with music. Reporter and in january, the two bands will join marching six miles through pasadena playing out their high school dream. Most people are like band nerds. They have that negative connotation. Justice department have agreed on a plea deal with the company paying billions of dollars in fines. 11 people were killed in the 2010 explosion resulting in that big oil leak that caused longterm environmental damage and Major Economic problems for gulf coast cities. This is her fourth dui arrest in the past 10 years. So again its not looking good for this driver as well as the area. We are at 17th and van ness where you can see the mess. The traffic lights are still out after the drunk driver led chp officers on the short chase through the mission district. But let me show you some video from hours before. You can see the damage that this driver caused. Chp says the suspect drove on it a closed freeway onramp and the officer on duty saw this and tried to pull her over at ninth street but she kept going. She exited off mission and van ness and thats where the chase began and then things got worse. She hit a parked car and that parked car rolled on to a cyclist. The car hit another parked car blocks away before hitting a light pole knocking out the traffic lights in the area. Back out live, crews are here cleaning up the mess. In addition, they want to restore the traffic lights here in the area. Chp says the cyclist is expected to be okay. She did not hit him directly. The cyclist had minor injuries. Both were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. This woman will be facing some serious charges this morning especially because a pedestrian was involved. The few charges that she will be facing include felony dui, reckless invading, enhanced felony dui because this is her fourth dui arrest and it involved a pedestrian. A threealarm fire in the village bar on tuolumne street. Crews battled a house fire nearby. No cause for either fire, no injuries. We have a crew heading to the scene. Two sides must have a list of the agreements by the november 29. The city of san jose has a shortage of officers. Theres less than 600 officers patrolling the streets for a city of a Million People. They were doing overnight roadwork in the area and we are just getting word of an accident on northbound 101 approaching highway 92. Chp says there may have been a problem possibly cones still left over from that overnight closure on that connector ramp from westbound 92 to northbound 101. So were checking it now but it looks like there are possibly lanes blocked again on northbound 101. It sounds like its close to kehoe right there in san mateo. Westbound 580 brake lights drive time up to 19 minutes now between the Altamont Pass and 680. We also have an accident reported in livermore eastbound lanes of 580 approaching airway so just a heads up. Thats against the commute. Also really super busy already through antioch. You can see one of the our live drive time sensors shows 11 miles an hour, really bottlenecking approaching a street lone tree way. Past those antioch exits, you can see everything then moves up to top speeds over 40 miles per hour. Even if your loved ones appear to be completely self sufficient, remember, neurologists say that cognitive ability starts sliding as early as 60 and additionally, regulators warn that older americans, they are the biggest targets of financial scams. So when is the easiest time to have a conversation . Well, when your parents bring up something about money. Maybe its a complaint about low cd rates or the markets are doing so rotten, a high utility bill. The early conversation does not have to be a Forensic Accounting of every last nickel of your parentss finances. You just want to open the door. Heres something important. It may be helpful to bring in a third party. According to the survey, two thirds of parents and Adult Children said they might be more comfortable talking about these matters to an impartial financial pro like a certified financial planner, a cpa or an estate attorney. We have changes coming our way in the bay area. Starting out quiet this morning out the door. No rain just yet. It is clear along the coastline and inside the bay. Couple of patches of fog showing up in the north bay valleys. Temperatures mainly in the 40s and the 50s. This afternoon though well notice some changes. Well have some mild temperatures but the clouds will start to be on the increase. Thats a storm system off the coastline that will be paying a visit to the bay area very shortly now. High pressure starting to weaken. You can see that low just off the coastline. That ridge finally giving way after whats been a spectacular few days. But now it is looking like we are getting back to the rain as the system moves onshore later on tonight into friday. We are expecting a good soaker from this one and then more rain on the way for the weekend. Lets see if we can time it out. Starting out clear this morning early on and then the clouds begin to move in as we head throughout the day today into the evening commute. Its looking dry. So dont have to worry about it then. Overnight tonight toward tomorrow morning showers becoming more likely not a total washout but rain on the increase throughout the day tomorrow. With that in mind, traveling out of sfo, no problems today, mostly clear, no delays. Across the country looking good. They did pick the roadwork by the way on the upper deck. Elsewhere, to our maps and live Traffic Cameras. They picked up overnight roadwork southbound 880 near downtown oakland approaching embarcadero so now everything is good to go towards the coliseum and it continues to look good actually towards highway 92 and hayward. Other bridges heres a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge. They have more southbound 101 lanes open now if you are heading towards doyle drive and San Francisco drive time in the clear between san rafael and the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza. So they did slowly pick up this overnight closure from westbound 92 to northbound 101. Apparently it was causing some sort of a problem for drivers and there was an accident in that area. Thats according to the metropolitan transportation commission. It tied for last place with st. Helena up in napa county. City leaders say communities need to tax themselves to repair the roads and larkspur apparently hasnt done that.
