about that coming up. first a look at traffic. >> back out to san leandro at the scene of this traffic alert still in effect. it's been there for more than two hours now. one lane is open. one lane remains closed on this major connector ramp southbound 880 to southbound 238. this is the scene of a big rig accident and diesel fuel spill. so delays are minor so far and they are hoping to have everything wrapped up and all lanes re-opened by about 5:15. in the meantime, check out this video that came into our newsroom overnight. an accidental fireworks show in oakland. cross streets of kennedy and frederick, a power outage near 880 and 23rd. we understand that a nearby off- ramp was closed for about one hour. but it produced some pretty spectacular fireworks there in oakland overnight. back to you guys. >> thank you. 5:02. barry bonds' former mistress back on the stand today in his perjury trial. now, she has already provided some graphic details about how bonds changed emotionally and physically allegedly because of steroid use. let's go to sharon chin. she is in san francisco with what comes next. sharon, good morning. you were in the courtroom yesterday. were you blushing? >> reporter: well, i was busy taking notes t really did seem like a soap opera yesterday. today more interesting. this afternoon, three baseball players current and former expected to take the stand. and they are going to have the defense continue its cross- examination of kimberly bell. sensational testimony came from barry bonds' ex-girlfriend yesterday in his perjury try. the defense portrayed her as a gold digger a jilted mistress who wanted to embarrass bonds for leaving her in 2003. bell is the one person who could testify to the effects of steroids allegedly had on bonds. bell told a jury that in 2002 late in her nine-year relationship with bonds, she noticed a big lump on his left elbow. she said that bonds told her her sis road use caused his muscles and tendons to grow faster than his joint could handle. bell also described physical changes she saw in bonds that are common to steroid use, hair loss, impotence, acne and a temper that grew with his shoe and capsize. she said he threatened to cut off her head, cut off the breast implants he paid for and burn the home he bought for her. >> those admissions or those comments would normally be considered hearsay but because they are statements against interest, they will be admitted and they will be very important for the jury to hear. >> reporter: topping the witness list for the prosecution today, barry sample director of quest diagnostics look will talk about bonds' drug test sample. stan con at this time giants former head trainer. jason and jeremy giambi both of whom committed to using performance-enhancing from bonds' personal trainer greg anderson and former major league player randy velarde all three expected to talk about their ties to anderson but first off the defense about shooting one of the men he gunned down. devaughndre broussard is testifying in the murder trial of "your black muslim bakery" associates yusef bey iv and antoine mackey. they are charged with the murders of journalist chauncey bailey and two other men. a middle school teacher is on the run to escape accusations of touching a boy inappropriately. charles redmond has taught at park middle school since 1984. he allegedly touched an 8th grade boy inappropriately last week and made lewd comments to other boys before. $100,000 warrant is out for his arrest. police say redmond left a note for his family then apparently went to mexico. over 100 san jose pot clubs go up in smoke if the city council aproves a limit on the dispensaries tonight. under the proposal only 10 collectives would be allowed to operate legally in the city. the measure would also streamline the application process for those 10 pot clubs. there would also be a specific time limit for the other 100 or so collectives to cease operation. a bay area city could put a shorter leash on its dogs. >> kiet do is in san jose with more on the freak accident that's sparking some tough new restrictions. kiet, good morning. reporter: good morning. we are live along the los alamitos creek trail in south san jose where it all began a year and a half ago where beverly head got into a freak accident and died when she got tangled up with two dogs who were on the end of long leashes. later today, the san jose city council is expected to approve a new set of laws to shorten leashes and stiffen penalties. this comes after more than a year of community meetings and studies about the issue. beverly head got tangled up in the leashes with those two siberian huskies. she fell over and then died from her injuries the next day. the victim's husband had wanted the city ban all dogs from riding along side bikers and in fact he wanted to ban all bikes from sharing trails with dogs. the city did not go to that extreme but said it tried to find a balance in its new rules, which include a 6-foot leash maximum down from the current maximum of 20 feet. the first offense would be a warning followed by a $100 and $200 for the second and third offense. anyone with a dog now has to stay to the right of the trail. so bob head has told us in the past that if these shorter leash laws were in effect, his youshock set off two pipe bombs at hillsdale high school in 2009. he was also carrying more bombs, a sword and chainsaw when he was arrested. the jury is still distributing additional charges and will international meeting today in london. president obama says nato will take control of the entire operation in libya tomorrow. >> i said that america's role would be limited. no ground troops that we would focus our unique capabilities on the front end of the operation and transfer responsibility to our allies and partners. tonight we are fulfilling that pledge. >> he said libya would be better off with moammar qaddafi out of power. in addition to our nato duties the president said we will provide assistance to the libyan people. we will safeguard $33 billion from the libyan regime's frozen assets to rebuild the country and the president said he ruled out targeting moammar qaddafi himself saying that trying to oust him militarily would be a costly mistake. qaddafi's son was in the united states even right here in the bay area at one point. cnn reports that the son had an internship in los angeles for a global engineering and design company. he traveled around meeting with high-tech companies in cities such as san francisco, chicago and houston. he left the united states for libya on february 17th when the crisis broke out there. time now 5:40. power company officials in japan out to redwood city. northbound 101 near whipple we had an accident involving a motorcycle, a big rig and another car. bill with the kcbs phone force just called us letting us know that that accident was just cleared to the right shoulder so slight delays right now but again, they just cleared that out of lanes so all lanes once again re-opened northbound 101 through redwood city so hopefully we'll start to see an improvement shortly. in the meantime, this could cause some big delays for really the remainder of the morning commute. we're talking about this major connector ramp in the east bay. southbound 880 to southbound 238, a couple of hours ago, around 2:30 this morning, there was an accident involving a big rig, hit the guardrail in the area and they are telling us that that traffic alert will be in effect until 9:00 this morning. now, you can use the connector ramp. they still have one lane open. but one lane remains shut down. so if you are coming down southbound 880 out of oakland, you may want to consider using lewelling boulevard as your alternate and cut up towards hesperian to 238. this could cause us some big delays unfortunately for the bulk of the morning commute like i have been saying. 880 for right now, though, looks pretty good. here's a live look near the coliseum. taillights moving northbound towards downtown oakland. so far no big delays in either direction. and at the bay bridge toll plaza, we're doing well here. no problems, no construction right now on the upper deck so quick trip this morning into san francisco and mass transit because of alleged steroids use. a current major league player jason giambi scheduled to testify today in that perjury trial. authorities in antioch trying to track down that teacher who may have fled to mexico. that's charles redmond. he is accused of touching a boy inappropriately at park middle school and making lewd comments to other boys. there is a $100,000 warrant out for his arrest. and san jose could shorten the leash on dogs. today the city council will be voting on whether to limit dogs' leashes to 6 feet in length in city parks. right now leashes can be 20 feet long. this change comes after a woman got caught in a dog's leash in 2009 and died. today the supreme court will hear arguments on a major lawsuit against wal-mart. the retail giant wants justices to block a discrimination lawsuit from becoming a billion- dollar class action case. a group of female employees says they have been paid less than their male counterparts and repeatedly passed over for promotions. the company argues the allegations are isolated and that there is no pattern of gender bias at the 4300 stores. lawsuits started with several women in the bay area ten years ago. there is a reason you might crave snacks throughout the day. scientists say people who are sleep-deprived eat about 300 calories more a day compared to people who get a solid night's rest. some of the more favorite snacks would be ice cream and, of course, fast food. researchers said sleep deprivation may also lead to obesity and a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. the women's basketball team might
