Just in case you dont know why im here, i want to make it real clear. Reporter prop 30 would bring california an estimated 6 billion a year by temporarily raising the income tax on the states highest earners and sales tax by. 25 . Proposition 30 is about a lot of things. Its about kids. Its about teachers. Its also about the Credit Rating of california. Its about social harmony. Its about hope. And its about those who have been most blessed who have an opportunity to give something back. Reporter brown is also warning that if 30 doesnt pass it would trigger 6 billion in automatic cuts most of it to schools. Lets take a live look at the san mateo bridge and as you can see, no traffic. Its closed for the weekend for some muchneeded repairs. Cbs 5 reporter don knapp is talking to caltrans to see how the work is progressing. Don. Reporter the work is on schedule but there are minor impacts on traffic. We came down 880 and it was backed up in several places. Dont know if its directly related to the bridge work or not but it was heavy. Behind me you see work at the toll plaza. This seems to be routine now whenever they shut down the bridge, they go to work on all the projects around the bridge. Now, out on the bridge, they have 30foot sections to replace, 12 of them. So so far they have removed six of the old ones and installed three new ones and were told right now at this moment, they are putting Fourth Section into place. Now, the work stems from a crack in a major support structure that was found on the bridge two years ago. And that was related to an earlier seismic retrofit in the 90s. Caltrans created repairs, they said, held up well but the bridge was slated for a new seismic upgrade so they are doing all this work again now. The weekend closures, by the way, began kind of back in 2006 2007 with the bay bridge when they put in the section of the bay bridge. Ever since its a regular fixture around the bay bridge according to bob haas. He says its the only way to go. When we did it for the first time with the bay bridge, and successive closures since then, we have discovered that it can be done as long as people have proper advance notification then and we do our best to pick the best time to do it, then hasnt been that bad. We have seen traffic levels much heavier on the bridges and highways today but still not quite equal to that of what we see during a normal weekday. Reporter so certainly its a little more efficient if you dont have to deal with traffic going across the bridge, you can get a lot of work done in a hurry. If all goes well and it looks like everything is, the bridge will be back in business open for commuters at 5 a. M. Monday. So looks like once again, another weekend with no problems on one of these big bay bridge closures and looks like the bridges will be back in service with no major problems. It used to be the bridge closures seemed catastrophic. It doesnt seem like that anymore. Reporter i remember when there were no closures for a long time until loma prieta and then not until they did the big correction in 20062007 with the new bridge. So now its just part of life in the bay area, i guess, ann. Thank you, don. To avoid the traffic, getting around the bridge closure this weekend, head to our website, cbssf. It was his decision to sign zito to a 7 years 126 Million Contract in 2007. Mcgowan among others had smiles and praise for number 75. I think anytime any player signs a contract like that they put tremendous pressure on them, a bulls eye on their back. Its a lot to live up to when you have a contract like that. I think when you sign from an organizations point of view a contract like that, you have to believe in the character of the person and is it a guy thats going to represent the organization well. He is one of the best pitchers in the game of baseball. But you dont just look at the statistics how good a pitcher he was. You look at for that kind of a contract, can he provide the leadership . I think he was ecstatic for him. We have also two things how hard he works and how big of a teammate he is and how good a teammate he is. So when you have a good teammate that works really hard, and he has never made an excuse for any of his down times and up times, he just he celebrates with the team. I think we really appreciate how hard he works. That was dennis probing. The as are out of the play offs but still making noise. They have a new outfielder come opening day.
