next. and it may be too early in the morning to think about beer but there is something brewing in the bay area. do you think it is not too early? >> never too early. >> people standing in long lines for this, we will talk about that coming up next. and normally the super bowl is intentionally held in the city without the winter weather for a reason. so this year's texas surprise, will it prevent ticket holders from seeing the big game? we will talk about it next. ,,,, , warmer temperatures predicted this weekend in the dallas area. the site of course is tomorrow's super bowl. the stadium in arlington does have a retractible roof which will be closed for the game between the green bay packers and the pittsburgh steelers. for much of this week, snow and ice have been piling up. yesterday, large chunks of ice fell from the 300-foot high roof injuring six workers, one of them critically. >> safety is the number one priority. but you're dealing with unique circumstances around the stadium right now. >> this week's temperatures have been in the teens and 20s. five inches of snow fell early yesterday. and the storm left runways too snowy to receive airliners with fans headed to the area for the game. across texas, more than 2,000 flights have been canceled in the past two days. but around here, it has been lovely, and you know what is going on here, giant fan fest, down at at&t park and people have been lined up since last night, and luckily, they have had some lovely weather for that. >> no snow or ice will. >> no. >> and for the super bowl, it is supposed to be warming up. it might be a little rain. but they're not looking for snow and ice. that doesn't help the pre-game festivities a week in advance. people are running into travel problems across much of the country. not too much here, as you can see, sunny skies prevail, a few high clouds, drifting across the region but they won't amount to much today and they will probably disappear through the afternoon as they do have a wind advisory up and look for the winds to crank up over the local hills and mountains here. as again, the strong offshore breeze is keeping skies clear, even at the beach, as we check out the surf, ocean beach here, and looking out over the vacca cam, a little patchy fog here and there. but that too, if you look at the camera shaking, the winds are up to 40 to 50 miles an hour in the hills and that trend will continue with that wind advisory up for the north and east bay hills, the diablo range and the santa cruz mountains, 4:00 partly cloudy to 10:00 p.m., and northerly winds. 25 to 35 gusting to 50 miles an hour. we've already seen some wind gusts this morning. up to 50 miles an hour. so again, it is already developing and it will continue to blow pretty hard into the hills into tomorrow morning from the looks of things. that will have several effects in that it will warm things up, we will get down-sloping conditions across the area and winds are sinking and it will clear the clouds out and improve the air quality a bit as well. but again, it will be very breezy, in the mountain tops, and as a result for those conditions, as they're developing we will see sunshine prevail and warmer temperatures. a little bit of friction nal heating as the atmosphere sinks so that will add to the radiation from the sunshine out there and mid to low 70s across the interior, and upper 60s for the bay area locations, and could see a 70 or two. and back at the beach, mid-60s likely to prevail. there the high pressure continues to control, sending the storm track by to our north as has been our pat pattern since the beginning of the year and another week of it from the looks of things before we see a chance of rain return to the forecast and the high pressure system will hold strong keeping us warm and breezy with offshore winds across the area and lots of sunshine and as advertised, near record level temperatures for this date. that will put us into the upper 60s, to low 70s, for the hot spots here, and around the state, we will be looking for 70s in the central valley, minimal fog there. and it will burn off early today. ukia in the mid-70s. and in and around the bay, not all the way down to monterey, we will look for the upper 60s to low 70s likely through the weekend. even getting toasty up in the high country, which means an early spring melt. so that big snow pack, and around the bay here today, we will look again for mid to upper 60s, right at the water, and as you head inland, upper 60s to low 70s, although we may see some of those upper 60s and low 70s, even right at the bay here, today, as those offshore breezes develop, and you can see, temperatures continuing to climb, for tomorrow, and into the beginning of the week here, and which does not look like a february forecast. but we will take it. no complaints. we continue dry. right on through the end of the week. and maybe next weekend, we might be talking rain again. but even at that, it looks pretty wimpy so it will take a while for the pattern to change. >> it just absolutely looks beautiful. >> that is a good sign for the rest of the country, but it is not so good for some areas. >> we do want to head to the fan fest at at&t park, 11:00 a.m., all free, autographs from all of the players, we're talking about the new panda is there and tim lincecum. >> all of the guys. >> very exciting. >> and the mustache. >> have you seen the pictures? he looks good. >> take your sun screen. the side show to america's biggest annual sporting event. what to expect from this year's crop of super bowl commercials. that's my favorite part of the game. weekend early edition continues. but first here is tony with this weekend's produce segment. >> time for this week's best buy. check your local lines at your local market, check the quality and save some money on healthy fruits and vegetables. we start with navel oranges, i best buy these a among ago, a little longer and they're getting bigger and juicier and dropping in price. you can buy a large navel orange, and look at the price, for around 59 cents each and some sell them by the pound, 79 to 99 cents. that's the average. when you buy them, orange all the way around and heavy for the size. the navel has to be small. store them on the counter. great to cook and eat out of hand. this time of the year they're fairly large. let me tell you the flavor is still there. you can find a pint of grape tomatoes for this price here, 1.29, don't store in the refrigerator and always store on the counter and they decay quickly with all of the sug ner there. and blueberries imported in. dark color all the way around. and when you bring them home, in the refrigerator, 1.49 per pint, the average prices and some marks a little lower but some markets could be much higher. and so enjoy. eat fresh. stay healthy. and save ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, resolve stain busters. i vacuumed my carpet, but it's still so dingy. she needs resolve deep clean powder. look what vacuuming alone leaves behind. this penetrates deep to release trapped in dirt, leaving your carpet looking like new. it looks great. (lab-guy) trust resolve. forget stains. this is where the hype began. cupertino-based apple 1984 mcintosh ad sparked a new era for the super bowl when they started to get as much attention as the game itself. and of course the big game is tomorrow. for a look inside, at what we're going to see between the plays, we're joined by jim, our common sense media. your group, jim, got a preview of some of these ads. >> yes we did. it is interesting, i think it is one of the most fun times of the year from an advertising perspective because they go all out and do their most creative stuff and from a kid standpoint you can talk about advertisements and bombarded by ads 24/7, 365 days a year culminating with the super bowl. >> and you mentioned one of the issues with kids, they have a hard time distinguishing an ad from reality. >> under the age of seven, it is true. kids do not know the difference between reality and advertising which is why sometimes advertisers target those little tikes. but if you think what is really different this year -- >> this is audi by the way. >> the audi ad is a great example of a commercial that is not really just a tv ad, it is designed to send you offline. the whole point of many of the ads this year is not just the tv ads like we're watching on the screen but for you as the viewer, and then the customer, if you will, to go offline, and follow the ad, and it sends you to a twitter page, or a facebook page. >> you're advertising to yourself. >> that is the story here. is the introduction of new media and social media platforms, like twitter, facebook, and even self generated and created content on youtube has now completely come to dominate these ads. you know, if you look at what the advertiser is doing now, there is the ad on tv, and it will be interesting, we will watch tomorrow, if you're watching the super bowl, but the whole point is to follow on a twitter page and see if you can win a contest. it is the integration of new media with old media. it is the hallmark of the super bowl in dallas texas. >> do you think people are actually going to do it, though? >> i would think watching that, i would not be logging on to my facebook page. >> here is what i say. tech gurus like jim bernard, he will sit there the entire game and he will be there with his twitter account. and it is an age thing. young people, remember they like to hit the young demographics, that's the point, the biggest purchasers who advertiser goes after and those guys will predict and they will incentivize you to take a contest and do this on your twitter page and follow this twitter link, or check this out and one of the things you have to remember too, as a parent is a lot of times they do ads that are morris kay that they don't show -- more, risque that they don't show on the super bowl but an uncut version may be on youtube so your kid may not be exposed to it because of the rules that govern broadcast television and there are no rules about that on twitter or youtube. that is another thing to be aware of. i mean look, will i go to twitter or facebook to check out what happened on the audi commercial or the doritos commercial for the million dollar lottery, no, i will not. >> no, i will not. >> jim bernard however will spend his entire day, you know, twittering. >> probably not. but let me ask you this. bottom line, i mean as a parent, do you try to steer your kids away from doing that? >> you know, i do personally because i think you have to limit that. the other thing, i think it is a chance to talk about, number one, the impact of advertising on kids, i mean we always said, and also if there is an alcohol ad or an ad with a violent movie because there will be some movie promos, mute it and talk about that. talk about how much they're bombarded with messages. i mean this is the super bowl of advertising and not just the super bowl of football. and the other thing is, i think you ought to talk to the kids about how much they're driving to you facebook and look how much they're driving to you the offline things, to keep you connected to their brand. that's the advertiser's point but how much you're getting addicted to staying on these social media platforms. that's the real message. and it is sort of the once a year football game, but once a year advertising, you know, smorgasbord to talk to your kid about what it means. and i would do that out there. and i guess even though the quarterbacks and the packers, they went to cal, we still have to root for the packers. >> i am down with that. >> and being a stanford man, a cal qb in the super bowl. >> we're on the same page. jim, thanks for joining us this morning. of course, it is super bowl weekend. and as we've been talking about. it is time to kick back with the cold one. but a cult-like following has grown for one type of beer brewed in sonoma county. the seasonal brew has people lining up for hours just to get a taste. >> so potent and so popular, the india pail ale is only served in small 10-ounce glasses. rationed out at russian river brewing company. >> it is like heaven. it is the best beer i've ever had ny n-my whole life. >> the once a year treat has gained a cult following. last year the santa rosa brewing company sold out of 200 kegs in eight hours. >> the relief wasn't even announced. i just had somebody call me and tell me it was released today. >> this year the lines were just as long. some hard core fans waited for hours just to get a taste. the web site advocate rated it as one of the best brews in the world. two years in a row. this time, though, the owners vinny and natalie are rationing the suds by supplying a secret number of gallons per day. >> for us, it kind of happens. >> we were very overwhelmed last year so we did a lot of things differently this year. we're not selling any beer to go. they have to consume it here. >> that didn't seem to be a problem. some people were celebrating a special occasion. to the regulars. and it is all helping sonoma county solidify its image as a master micro brewer. >> i hear that beer enthusiasts are more hard core than wine thust afters, is that true? >> -- enthusiasts, is that true? >> and it will only be here until february 17. and then you can look for it in a few select bars in the bay area, starting on wednesday. in santa rosa, grace lee, cbs 5. well, that was a fun assignment. there is much more to come here in the next half hour. it began as a typical bar fight. speaking of beer and what not. the bar fight though turned much uglier than normal. what prompted a crowd of about 200 people to turn on bay area police officers. and it is the environmentally correct thing to do, but will logistics prevent electric cars from going mainstream any time soon? we'll be right back. another day, another round of protests in egypt, as president obama has a warning for that country's government. the morgan hill controversy that went nationwide, the case of a patriotic teacher going to court. and texas winters are not supposed to be this harsh. how mother nature is messing with tomorrow's super bowl. and of course, it will all go on as planned. we're looking forward to that. in the meantime welcome back to weekend early edition. it is 9:00. thanks for joining us. i'm anne makovec. >> i'm jim bernard here to look at the spring-like weather pattern that looks like it will continue through the week. you're not fired of it yet? >> oh, no. >> looking toward the weekend. >> you can't beat it. >> we had over a month of this already. and we're on the right side of this stationary pattern that is affecting the entire nation, and east of the rockies, blizzard after blizzard after blizzard and we have the warm skies. gusty at the hilltops this afternoon. that will help keep the skies clear and also generate some friction warming in the atmosphere that could take us to record highs by this time tomorrow. we will be looking at upper 60s to the low 70s throughout the bay area. >> so it is going to be hard to stay inside and watch that game. >> you know, a lot of people will manage to do it. >> you can record it. >> i don't think people will be taking advantage of that. but we will see. maybe bring the television outside. >> get outside. >> thanks, we will check in with you in a few. leading the news this advisory in effect, to the north and east bay hills, and the diablo rage, and the santa cruz mountains. really kicking in to effect by 4:00 this afternoon. until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. and northerly winds 25 to 35 gusting 45 to 50. that is already validated. i think we can count on gusty conditions at the mountain top level here through the weekend. which will aide to keep skies clear to blow out any patchy low clouds that might form out there. and we will look for sunshine, and friction nal warming in the atmosphere, as the air will be sinking for the most part. that is resulting in near record highs around the area as we see mid to low 70s across the area. sunny and warm at the bay. upper 60s to mid-60s range there, and back to the beach and some of the mid to low 60s likely to prevail. and these may be actually under forecast, there may be a little warmer than expected. as we see that high pressure system, and it has been with us for the next, well, since the beginning of the year. still remains in effect, in control out here and the storm track is sent by to our north and it will prevail through most of next week. as we look for warm and breezy conditions today. and the offshore breeze will keep skies clear. and not much in the way of any patchy fog. even the haze and stagnant air quality will improve as a result of these winds. and now come the beginning of the week, as the winds abate, we will look for a little more fog, and to form here, across the bay area, and for now, the next couple of days, it looks like warm and breezy conditions with clear skies, and the temperatures across the interior, not much fog out there as well in the central valley as they head into the 70s here for this afternoon. and back to the bay, we go, upper 60s, to low 70s, and again, we may see more warming on the peninsula, and right around the water, that's what i got forecast here. and wouldn't be surprising me to see upper 60s to low 70s there as well today. just depends how much of the high winds filter down to the ground level. and looking at the seven-day forecast, we see the warming trend won't stop this weekend, and as it continues into the beginning of the week, and slight cooldown through midweek, and we will start to bring in some more clouds, and maybe a threat of rain, by next weekend, but as you can see, for the most part, next week looks sunny and dry, and with a few clouds moving in to the area, gradual cooldown into the end of the week, as the pattern continues to remain spring- like, at least on the west coast. >> too bad they're not
