A sign of the times. 25 First Republic locations in the bay area will close last year. Last year Jp Morgan Chase acquired First Republic which is one of three midsize banks to fail. The closures will happen may 24th. Of a giant tells us they will reopen 10 locations in our area as jp morgan or chase branches. A lot of people travel to certain parts of the nation, even to mexico for a front row seat to the solar eclipse. In the path of totality, it did not make it to the bay but we got a partial viewing. It is a dry day today, tomorrow and lasting into thursday but it is worth mentioning we have a cold front once again around the corner. That reminds me a lot of last weeks cold front that brought and breezy conditions, chilly temperatures and more rain. That happens as we head into this friday, saturday and sunday but before we get there i want to talk about the drive portion. It is dry into the afternoon today. Thanks to High Pressure offshore. That is giving us above average when it comes to temperatures. Taking a look at daytime highs today, we are above average whether you are in San Francisco, oakland or all the way into areas like concord and san jose. Lets dive into the temperatures. It is a gorgeous day to get out and get fresh air. I will mention the pollen count is relatively high. Take it slow if you are sensitive to allergies but other than that , will be a great day to take advantage of some fresh air outside. We are expecting 73 degrees near redwood city. 77 into livermore and if you like one 70s, that is the case throughout the Santa Clara Valley and we are expecting 80s around the corner. The system that is offshore will continue to warm us up into the low 80s for wednesday and thursdays forecast with sunny skies. And a cold front starts rolling its way in into the weekend forecast and that is what will bring in the showers and chilly temperatures and the gusty conditions until around sunday afternoon. Israelhamas war entering his seventh month after hamas killed some 1200 people on october 7th and took hostages. That action prompted israel to strike back and as of this morning Global Leaders continue to call for a ceasefire and to release all hostages. Today Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with families of americans taken hostage during the october 7th terror attack. Yesterday pope francis chimed in and met with israelis who have lost loved ones in gaza. The pope has called for an immediate ceasefire in the war and the release of all hostages and full access to humanitarian aid. In gaza, israels military has withdrawn from a place called khan younis. Palestinians returning finally to see the city reduced to rubble. There are bay area helpers building bridges. They saw images like those and decided to get up and go to gaza to try to help. Talk about fairfax nurse, sandra adler. She shared with Jose Martinez what she saw during her two weeks in gaza. Reporter sandra adler is back to her day job as an emergency room and pediatric nurse for Kaiser Permanente east bay after completing a twoweek mission in gaza. I feel like what we did was a bandaid. Even saving, hopefully saving lives. But in the bigger picture, again , a tiny drop. Of what we could accomplish in the two weeks we were there. Reporter she says she and her team saw more than 150 patients a day , through her time in southern gaza. The work was difficult. We were at a trauma civilization point in khan younis. Working with a lot of mass casualty incidents. A lot of pediatric trauma. Reporter so was getting to gaza in the first place. A journey started in germany, with training on how to work in a hostile environment. And from there we went to cairo. Where we procure some additional supplies, medical equipment. We brought 32 crates with us of mostly medical supplies. And medicines. It was about a 10 hour trip getting to the border and crossing over and getting to our home base in rafah. Reporter sandra is no stranger to this work. She has been and disaster zones in places like syria, mexico and panama but said this deployment was the toughest. The artillery fire we heard definitely increased over time. I was in the last five days it was coming close to rafah but consistently throughout my time there , we heard shelling. Reporter she said one of her dearest memories is this picture. With a little girl who visited her brother every day while he was receiving medical attention. But the saddest one was leaving my colleagues. I knew we would be open the whole time i had a way out. This is a situation that you cannot leave. This is a situation that they are enduring day after day after day. Sandra work with a nonprofit Emergency Response Organization Called cadus. They got her into gaza. This was her 12th humanitarian mission. She would like to go back if and when she can. Are the as striking out again . Now there is a Court Challenge in nevada. It is 9 11 in the morning. This is a look around the bay. Repairs on highway one at big sur after a portion of the highway crumbled during easter weekend. It was a mess. Crews plan to drill vertical anchors in the southbound lane of the highway near the rocky creek bridge. Secretary of health and Human Services Xavier Becerra will visit the bay area for a Latino Health tour. In less than two hours he will address decades of Health Care Disparities faced by latinos and communities of color emphasizing inclusion in Clinical Trials and expanding healthcare. Making sure the results reflect the community. A las vegas Teacher Organization wants to make sure the as stadium does not cross home plate. Today is their day in court. They are suing over 380 million public funding bill for the as new las vegas ballpark. The argument is that millions should not be spent on a ballpark when students needed for education. The group is called, schools over stadiums. They did lose an early battle when a judge sided with the as saying the groups referendum petition submitted left out details for potential signings to make an informed decision. For the month since they are holding the ground. They have been trying to appeal that ruling. Today the organization has the chance to argue that decision but they said if the original ruling is upheld, they have backup and they say they will file a lawsuit declaring a bill to pave the way the passage of public money to help pay for the stadium, unconstitutional. Safety is the demand of the Library Workers fighting the light on city blocks and in response a rally by public Library Employees demanding safer streets outside where they work. The complaint, drug addicts and homelessness right outside their doors. Makes the job of being librarians unsafe. The rally starts at noon at San Franciscos main library. Taking a live look at san jose where this afternoon city council will vote on new rules that would limit where people can park their large vehicles and rvs. This is for overnight parking. The rules would prohibit people from setting up encampments within 150 feet of a school. Supporters say they will make roads and schools safer while critics say, they are criminalizing homelessness.
