Legislative session. Today is the last day for the legislature to vote on bills to try to get them on the governors desk. On the agenda, bills relating to the environment, crime, magic mushrooms, guns and employment to name a few. Governor newsom will have until october 14th to decide what to do with the bills. Next fall, tuition is going up for tens of thousands of College Students at californias csu system. The board of trustees voted to approve a multiyear tuition increase. The csu system is facing a deficit of 1. 5 billion. Tuition will increase 6 every year for five years in a row. By 20282029 school year tuition will be nearly 2000 more. That applies to less than half the students. Those that qualify for grants and waivers for those with higher family incomes. But still, that is more than 180,000 students. All 27 teachers in the Sausalito MarinCounty School district have voted to authorize a strike. The union says they have been working without a contract for the past two years. What are they asking for . A 16 raise over two years including this school year. The districts superintendent has said they are offering an 8 increase over the same timeframe. The district continues to not really change their position with regard to salary. We entered into an impasse in june of 2023. And during the impasse process we went to mediation, mediation failed, and now we are at the factfinding process. During the factfinding process, a panel of three people will look at the proposals.
