So, we reviewed California Common core data, publicly available t. Shows how a district spends money on improving things like property, buildings or equipment. And found districts with more hispanics get less. 6080 students of color they got 132 a kid. But districts with 2040 of black and hispanic received more than twice than that nearly 300. 92 of those students in the roseland School District are hispanic and receive 320. 73 a child for Building Investments from the state. Just between the minutes away in the School District. As the number of black and hispanic students drop to 51 . Building investments jump to 1400 for child. She is not surprised by these numbers. It is extremely upsetting to to know that part, too. Because, again, it is sort of like who do you not point a finger at but who do you hold accountable. Who do you talk to. It is the same state, two different schools. Reporter we asked the School District officials with an interview. They are not available to go on camera. They have ones that are significant of tlc. Like so many schools, they continue to have a larger need for School Facility funding than we have dollars to spend. And, we also reached out to the Windsor School but they were unavailable. He says his school is still pretty cool it is comfortable. Yeah . And the Martinez Family just wants all kids to have access to the same high quality education. Such good insight. How is funding determined . Lets take a look. A big chunk comes from property taxes the wealthier the district the more affluent the schools, now the state has extra funding for schools with more low income students but the money is not intended for building upgrades. One aspect of funding that does not go through the formula is facilities funding or funding for school buildings. That is something that is largely locally determined and it is higher in areas with more wealth. That is kind of one aspect where it feels like it is the greatest inequities for state funding and education. Another challenge ahead for california schools, federal stimulus dollars are expected to dry up in a year or two. Local districts and the state will shift money around to save some school programs. A senate bill, headed to governor newsoms desk providing high schools to have condoms for sexually active student that request them. As you might imagine there is a lot of debate. This year the cdc said the rates of youth participating in sex has decreased however, unsafe sex increased.
