Two of many rallies going on nationwide today. [ women screening ] [ women screaming ] reporter this rally is part of a station on a day without a woman. A day without women is a day without anything. Reporter carol brought a paddle with the proverb. When sleeping women awaken, mountains move. Reporter this is one of many rallies around the bay area and the country on International Womens day. Many of the people who came here took the day off work to highlight womens economic power. Sometimes its kind of easy to be overlooked. Especially when often times we are doing just as much or even more work than some of the male counterparts. Reporter so she and 20 of her coworkers went to management at gray advertising in San Francisco. Didnt ask for permission. That was really important. We went to them and said, this is our plan. Were going to leave new good hands. Reporter and with that, one third of the agency was rallying here. This movement was organized by the same people behind januarys womens march on washington. [ women continuing to scream ] we have to keep this up. Reporter they used social media to send out a rallying cry lets call attention to economic injustices on march 8 the color of the day red. We are, um, in a difficult time and we have to show solidarity. Reporter now, organizers are also asking people not to do any shopping today unless its a small locally owned shop that is owned by either a woman or a minority, and some of the people here at the rally asked me why am i working today . This is right in front of San Jose City hall. The event and rally started at 12 p. M. It runs until 2 p. M. Organizers telling women to Brown Bag Lunch it so they could go there to the San Jose City hall during the the lunch break. That is san jose. In new york city thousands of women dressed in red and pink and marched in the effort today. They want to give a voice to the women in marginalized communities. Some men joined it, as well. [ screaming ] women in washington, dc protested around the u. S. Capitol. Women democrats were on the capital steps for a day without a woman and International Womens day. This is 100 years since the first woman was elected to congress. She said at the time, i may be the first woman in congress, but i know one thing for sure. I will not be the last. She hasnt been. But we want more. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that when women succeed, the world succeeds. House lawmakers are working to dismantle obamacare. Craig boswell reports the Republican Leadership is already finding the bill faces an uphill battle. Debate has begun. Families are facing over 10,000 deductibles in many cases because of the unworkable mandates and taxes in this bill can republicans guarantee that the 20 million who have insurance today will continue to have insurance under their plan . Clearly not. Reporter but some republicans say they cant support the plan because it keeps some taxes and the expansion of medicaid. There is a plan brought forward which i believe when you look through it is obamacare in a different form. That means gop leadership has work to do to win over the skeptics. If they dont have 218 votes there will be a negotiation. Reporter President Trump will work with republicans and sent Vice President mike pence to start negotiations. House Speaker Paul Ryan is confident it will make it through congress. The promise we made to the American People is we are going to repeal and replace obamacare. Because we made that promise im confident well make good on the promise. The president s budget director says he expects the congressional final numbers on the cost by next month. Hawaii is taking on the travel ban. The attorney general filed a lawsuit saying the violate hawaiis state constitution. Its the first challenge to the new travel ban. The lawsuit states that the order results in the establishment of religion in the state of hawaii contrary to its state constitution. It also says that the order would do serious damage to hawaiis economy. Back here in the bay area, some victims of the overflowing coyote creek are struggling to restore their homes. Nothing was covered. That was a huge shock to find out my Homeowners Insurance didnt cover anything and fema doesnt cover anything. So thats all out of pocket. Everything is ruined. Reporter the nonprofit sacred Heart Organization began cutting checks from donors to victims so they can replace belongings. Priority is being given to those in shelters in unlivable homes.
