A News Conference just wrapped up here at city hall leaders saying they are pleased that pg e has the guilty verdict. Even the city manager saying justice has been served. Still, some question the maximum penalty saying that pg e may not be facing enough when it comes to those penalties. You know that, explosion which happened back in 2010 killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes. A federal jury found californias Largest Utility Company guilty of misleading investigators about how it was identifying high risk pipelines. Although prosecutors got the conviction, a decision to lower the maximum fine from 562 million to 3 million took them by surprise. Still, today at that News ConferenceOfficials Say it was never about the money. The counts that the jury has found pg e guilty on provide a black mark, if you will, as the mayor said, on the corporate seal of pg e. Reporter the city manager saying that it wasnt about whether it was 3 million or 562 million. She was just glad to see the guilty verdict. Today the city is asking pg e not to appeal and to, instead, accept the verdict. San mateo County District attorney Steve Wagstaffe says the jury is making a strong statement with their verdict labeling the company as felons. And the neighborhood even though its been nearly six years, they are still dealing with the aftermath. They are working to rebuild. A man faces charges of evading police and driving under the influence after a low speed pursuit that spanned two bay area counties. It started this morning in menlo park when a driver wouldnt pull over for local police. The Highway Patrol then got involved when the suspects car crossed the bay. The pursuit ended around 5 a. M. In oakland when the car ran over a spike strip near the caldecott tunnel. Investigators say that the suspect still wouldnt leave the wrecked car even after it caught fire. A k9 officer eventually coaxed him out. The suspect has been identified as 28yearold abdul zahid of berkeley. A man in arkansas is in custody accused of shooting two Law Enforcement officers. It happened in a wooded area early this morning in sebastien county about 115 miles west of little rock. The officers were shot while responding to an unspecified call for service. The suspect was arrested several hours after the shooting. The county sheriff says a Police Officer suffered superficial wounds but would not elaborate on the condition of the sheriffs deputy who was also shot. The department of justice has just released the findings of its year long investigation into the Baltimore Police department. Federal Officials Say that baltimore officers routinely discriminated against blacks and repeatedly used excessive force. Cbs reporter adam may has the details. Reporter Justice Department officials gathered at Baltimore City hall to release their scathing report into the Baltimore Police department. The investigation finds the department discriminates against blacks, uses unreasonable force, and fails to hold officers accountable for misconduct. These violations have deeply eroded the mutual trust between bpd and the community it serves. Reporter the report also found officers make large numbers of unlawful stops mostly in poor black neighborhoods. And they retaliate with force against citizens who talk back. The Baltimore Police department has already started making changes before the report was released. In the last year, the Department Revised its use of force policy and added more cameras. Those who choose to wear this uniform and choose to blatantly disregard someones rights absolutely should be uncomfortable because we are not going to tolerate it.
