Earlier this year a teen agent boy hopped a fence and stowed away in the wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines trip to maui. You now theyre calling on Airport Security to address whats being done now to fix these holes. The proposal will be before the rule open Government Committee wednesday. The teenager was shocking, but then that this could happen again. You go through the airport and you see all the has theyll all of us have hassle that all of have you to go through. And the cost. And three of the defendants, google, apple, and adobe declined to comment and a spokesperson for intel said were disappointed the court objected approval over arms length over many months. Settlements were reached last year against three others last year. And the Westboro Baptist church, you may remember this group for protesting soldiers nationwide. Now theyre going to protest every Big Tech Company here in places like twitter, facebook, as well as google, apple, and scrape skype. I dont think weve seen much of them here in california. Its interesting though, they were advertising over twitter theyre going to be protesting it just says the oakland as signed another lease at the colosseum. An antitrust case is against Major League Baseball. As you may know, for the past five years, the as have been pushing the league to move from okay land oakland to san jose, but Major League Baseball has refused to granted permission hence the suit. In the meantime, the as made a deal to stay at the colosseum, but it allows them to move to san jose if there was an available park. Oral arguments well be made before a three judge panel of the court of appeals in San Francisco. Okay. Thats going to be very interesting, as the chest moves around the table. On the sports franchisers, warriors to San Francisco, as to San Francisco. Were going to be sitting down talking about the new stadium in santa clara, too. Sense housing and jobs are often more difficult for excons to find, they may return to their wrong path about society. People cant be asked up front, it is allowed after the first interview or after offering someone a job. This is San Francisco specific. Already. The idea is to try to get people at least through front door and you have sit down and take an interview and explain yourself rather than just be rejected out of hand. This has been going on across the country, as well. Okay. On another legal front, the push for prop 46 will ramp up tomorrow afternoon. That measure would force doctors to be drug tested and supporters are holding a media event hoping to drum up more votes. So that when you go into a doctor, or youre going to have an operation, you know that that doctor is sober 100 just like when you get on an airplane. Unfortunately, because its only one of three pieces of legislation, you have to take it all together, and when take all together, all three taken together, all three will have to effect on the ability of delivering quality healthcare in california. Its interesting to note while most of the attention is being put on this drug testing, theres another clause in that proposition which is really one of the big motivators, it would raise the liability on medical suits. This is a push for more than just what meets the eye. Gotta look at all of the parts of these bills. Still ahead, the 49ers just one week away from making their debut to fans in the new levi stadium. Plus, the local School District changing its tune after parents come together to get a book banned. There new stance in what caused such a controversy coming up. A lot of people thought theres no way theyre leaving the San Francisco the economic benefit, joe joe montanas looking for a project. These projects wouldnt have been there for not for the stadium. And a tough thing to fill up or get the cars in, you lack spaces. Yeah, we have more parking in a lot of stadiums. Were going to have to have additional projects. One of the projects is supposed to be 8 to 10 as santana row. Thats going to be down the line. New, as far as the cost to santa clara, the rule usually been inside, the team covers the cost. Outside, its pretty much the city. No, we have had clauses, and the city is making hand over fist, right now with the hotels and others. Thats already coming. What about police, fire and traffic control, those things you were talking about, getting people in and there out of the ordinary. Santa clara put in the contract. One of the council men was very instrumental on pushing for the most amount of security costs covered by the team and i think it was in nfl history that santa clara got the 49ers to put that up. Its going to be an interesting front on the inside and on outside stadium. Do you have your tickets . No i they are expensive, but i think theyre worth it. I think im going to have the dallas game as my first game. Sounds great. Thank you, kevin for coming in. Thank you, phil. And we put a full guide about the 49ers new stadium and the first home game in santa clara. Go to kpix. Com levis. All right. We spoke with the sex toys, bondage. Those anatomy pieces are meant to be taught. Since that interview, the district agreed to put the book on hold. School leaders say after lunching to feedback from parents and other Community Stakeholders and fusd health teachers. They said, quote, the superintendent recommends that board of education place the use of the your health today textbook in ninth grade Health Courses on hold pending further vetting of concerns expressed with some of its content and its use. Now, the statement also says the books publisher has offered to modify the textbook to better meet the district and the students needs. One of those concerned parents is sally who. Thanks for joining us. What is your response to what the district has said over the weekend that they are planning on putting this book on old . First of all, theres adultlevel information throughout this book, so im not sure how a publisher could modify that. Im very grateful to the superintendent. Id like to thank him for recommending to continue using the existing textbook and im also very grateful to the specific Justice Institute about and and the legal issues about using this book in high school. A few parents noticing this may be inappropriate. At what point was this brought to your attention . Your daughters about to be in ninth grade. I received an email maybe 2, 3 weeks ago saying what . Provided some quotes from the book, what type of information was in the book and id probably want to check it out. Things like orgasm and bondage, what was your reaction . Actually, it was difficult to go to work that day. It was very difficult to on concentrate at work. I felt to concentrate at work. I felt sick. Do you feel helpless . It is Pretty Amazing the district was sort of bucking the criticism and still wanted to go forward with the book, but then finally started listening to the parents. How did you get their attention . It was really through the pacific Justice Institute. I did reach out to the School District a number of patients did. And i was told that after school, came back into session, then i would be able to start a complaint process. At that point, the textbook would have already been used at the school go there is the argument these are things that in this day in age, these kids are learning about any way. Should they not learn it from a textbook, learn it from school rather than learning it on the internet . It covers all california standards and includes all the nittygritty facts and anatomy and sex education. These 13 and 14yearolds, theyre going to be studying it. Its entirely different to be exposed to it. Do you feel learning about it would encourage them to take part in some of these acts . It makes it are very commonplace. Youre going to be speaking on wednesday. This wednesday night at 6 30. Im going to on ask the board to please accept the recommendation and also ask them to consider looking for a new textbook that was actually written for 13 and 14yearolds within a high school setting. Theres certainly many textbooks like that out there. This book was tailored for adults in a college setting. All right. A lot of people are probably wondering whats in this book. Its called, your health today. Sale who, thanks for joining us this morning. Bart making headway and explains to extend to Silicon Valley. The latest on the extension. And coming up, well give you all the details on when and where that hearingss going to be. Lots coming up, lets take a live look at the golden gate bridge. A little bit of fog out there, plenty of gray skies all around the bay area, and temperatures mild to the cool side. High 50s, lower 60s all around the bay area. Its going to be a little cooler today than what we saw yesterday. Otherwise, weather conditions pretty similar. Gray morning, then sun afternoon away from the coast, cool to mild temperatures. Well take a closer look at your sevenday coming up. Heres mark with your headlines. Heres are some of the top stories. Three local firefighters are recovering from injuries after whiting a lodge fire in mentocino county. Five members of an know mate crew, they were also burned in that fire. Fortunately of an inmate crew. They were also burned in that fire. Fortunately, no injuries in that fire, and 30 contained at that point. In up state new york, tony stuart plans to go ahead with racing today following a fatal incident yesterday. He struck and killed another race car driver who was walking on a dirt track after an accident between the 2 00 last night. County sheriff says stuart was fully cooperative while being questioned and that investigation is not criminal. Tomorrow, a road in free month will reopen under a new bart crossing. Warren avenue has been closed for more than a year and burrows under you new bridges that were constructed for freight trains and bart. Free month caltrans and the bta project for the first to reach san jose. Its no surprise lingering Drought Conditions are leaving its mark in the region. Its becoming more and more noticeable. The beaches of south shore are the most shallow the area has seen in years. The water is wonderful. The suns baking it. Its shallow so its nice and warm for us. So unless the region experiences a heavy downfall of rain or snow this up coming winter, water levels will remain this low until next year. Thats a look at your top stories. Tomorrow, water officials will discuss with local leaders about the local drought and what do if and when things get worse. They want more specifics from local bay area officials from drought symptoms to conservation efforts set for tomorrow in San Francisco. And some of the people charged with looking out for water waste may need to look in their own backyard. Kpix 5 shows us some of the their own water is going down the drain. If the santa claras own water waste inspectors were to hit the street this is week, they wouldnt have to go far. Embarrassing . Wed like to be the model of efficiency. Far the past couple days, weve been checking up on the sprinklers at the district headquarters in south san jose. We fond a broken head spewing water on to the parking lot found a broken head spewing water on to the parking lot. I showed the video to the district which is set to hire a small army of water waste inspectors to go out and talk to homeowner it is. Anybody who gets a knock on the door saying fix your sprinklers, i can imagine them saying, youre a hypocrite. Well, were were checking our sprinklers as often as we can. Were fixing the problems as soon as we know about them. Practically everybodys guilty to some degree. We visited a dozen homes and businesses all over the south bay and found overspray at every location. Nozzles that are adjusted properly still need new tune ups. Pressure regulators and better angle control are always coming out. Ron buck takes care to dial in his sprinklers. The corners are dead and brown his message to the Water District . Get your own house in order and then call upon us if you want to start fining people for watering the sidewalk a little bit or then you better take care of yours first. Since february, the district says its cut its only water use by 29 saving millions of gallons. As for their own overspraying, theyre the first to admit theyre not perfect. Hopefully when we encourage people to fix problems, were just pointing out something that we need toad address. Youre welcome. Thank you. Kpix 5. And address it they did. The Water District says theyve fixed those broken sprinklers the say day we told them about the problem. The pr value of that, busted. There are training new water waste inspectors right now and they are supposed to be hitting the streets by the end of this month or maybe early september. Now, 2 million are about to power into oakland to help fight crime. The money comes from the states recidivismm fund. Were going to learn about where that money gallon in an announcement at money will be announced. One try to get more cups and also cutdown on criminal recidivism and getting out there and busting into cars and such. Well see how it goes. Were going to learn about what theyre planning on doing this week. A california woman trying to change the law that bans low income parents from buying diapers with food stamps. Assembly woman gonzalez has created a bill that would give families in the cal works well wear program 80 a month to spend on diapers. No u. S. Program covers the cost of diapers. The bill passed through the california assembly, and up next for a vote in the state senate committee. It kind of depends what you think welfare should be used for and is it the purpose to be able to take care of families, if so, why not be to buy diapers. People are debating all around the country. Theres also costs involved. They estimate its going to cost 100 million for starters and theres good chance that would grow because programs tend to expand. Theres the cost and theres also the environment question. Are we earncouraging questionable use of these encouraging questionable use . They might be trying to use them any way. When you have a situation where the babies are here youre going to be hearing a lot about this diaper law. On thursdays valero crude by rail project, so many packed the last hearing, the Planning Commission scheduled a second one, approving they would aallow valero to allow them to ship oil to vanetia, and warning about train derailments, claiming it will create new jobs and reduce air pollution by replacing small gear. Both shipments with these rail deliveries. If you want to weigh in, that public hearing is thursday in venetia. And up in sacramento, theyre debating it, as well. Most of our oil is coming through by tanker, and sort of easy to watch and contain. This is going to be coming in Railroad Cars through residential areas and theres big question about whether the state has the money to get the local responders up and ready in case theres an emergency. So far they dont have the money. There has been federal recommendations on this because of the public outcry about this. In fact, some of those recommendations include having local Emergency Responders be warned that shipments are coming in so they can be ready, be on guard in case a disaster happens. Those are just recommendations. I have to point that out, not rules. If they have the money to back them up, or rules if something government does all the time and we the locals get stuck with it. Another top environmental topic hits the area. Fracking. At this time cover the Science Behind hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, as well as potential impacts on Drinking Water and the results of methane emissions during the process. Fracking, you may have heard, is highly controversial. There are sure to be protests outside. Still to come, a pair of high profile Security Breaches at mineta san jose airport. Plus, a special anniversary at alcatraz, why you might want to head out to the bay coming up next. ,,,,,,,,,, jose are calling for public hearings on airport securit after two Security Breachest mineta san j airport. This comes after a stowaway man was two city council men are had calling for Security Council men are calling for security measures. And back in april a teenager hopped a sense and climbed into the wheel well of a jet bound for hawaii. What can be done to prevent more incidents like this in san jose or other u. S. Airports and overall, how good are we being prettied by tsa . Congressman Eric Swalwell who sits oversewing this, 50 question, how much do we pay for tsa nationwide to be checking our airports . Just about 5 billion a year, about 8 billion goes to aviation security, and 2. 50 comes from each passenger that travels. So, is this a national oversee program with the locals control it . How does it break down . Each airports responsible for designing its only security plan that works with local argument and Airport Security and tsa. The tsa is for screening passengers go lets see what seems to be going wrong at san jose mineta. I think this is a training issue. This woman tailgated to get through security behind a family and did the same thing at the gate area and roamed around the gate for a few hours, even going to an Alaska Airlines gate before going to southwest, there was communication that should have happened that didnt, so i think training and awareness is going to be the solution here. We dont need to spend more money and put more people on the ground. I think we just need to be more aware and understand that as the situation around the world in the middle east and iraq develops, the threats here at home, heightens increase. Lets talk about that for a minute. You appeared to be concerned how do the isis and the Islamic State in that region play into domestic security . Just a few weeks ago we saw a heightened alert sent out through europe as well as the middle east because of a concern that increased efforts in bomb making and technological advances in bomb making were allowing bomb makers to disguise bombs in laptops. During the taliban area, iraq could be a breeding ground for terrorism. Our screeners need to be able to meet the threat if somebodys going to come across into the atlantic into the United States and push these weapons or devices through. We cant afford lapses where someone like ms. Hartman could have gotten through where we already should have known attempted stowaway, were going to have a heck of a time for someone else. The teenager in the wheel well is more scary, showing somebody can come in through a fence, get that close to an airplane, get up inside the airplane and worked it. That is a much bigger breach. The terminals are like fortresses. The airport perimeters are in some cases thousands of acres, they are largely, other than having barbed wear and a fence, theyre not protected barbed wire, theyre not expected. Security needs to know about it right away. The technology exists but were depending on human eyes to see that breach and weve been let down multiple times across america. Have we been overconcentrating versus the protection of the airports themselves . I think we have to be able to do both. Certainly the terminal is where the most amount of people go through, but our perimeters, when you at sfo or oakland or san jose, sometimes they include water perimeters. Do we have standards for that type of protection . Do we have questions about pg e substations, as well . Some of these on the ground things appear to not be getting the attention. My problem with tsa and the requirements right now is that it does not require the airport to be notified when the breach occurs. So weve put on a Technology Demonstration a few months back showing there are actually Silicon Valley company who is can use microwave and radar so that you can dispatch security personnel at the moment of the breach, and can distinguish between birds and animals. In mineta, they have video getting into this planes wheel well. That helps you prosecute him after the fact, it doesnt help detour what he could do. Thank you for joining us this morning. Im sure well be hearing more as we try to work this out. Thanks for coming, and weve got some is weather for us . Were going to take a look at our sunday morning forecast for today and start things off with a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza where it is socked in with clouds. We have some drizzle out there, too. Upper 5060s. Morning clouds and drizzle will give way to afternoon sun for most of the bay area, but it will remain mild inland, cool along the bay, and along the coast. Were going to see 50s. Right now, along the coast, or later on on today, Half Moon Bay will be sitting at 65. Pacifica, 64, morgan hill, though, is going to heat up to 86. As we swing over to the east bay, walnut creek, 82 today, venevia brent woot 76, salsilito and San Francisco, 65 today. Its going to be a cool to mild start to the work week, and its going to gradually warm up a little bit as we head into the second half of the week. This is pretty typical weather pattern for this time of year. Warning for ships and small boats in the bay area. Stay away from the whales spotted close to shore. Endangered whales have been spotted really close to ocean beach in San Francisco. Marine Officials Say harass the animals carries federal penalties and boaters are urged to stay at least 300 feet away to avoid any dangerous encounters. And today, alcatraz was celebrating a federal anniversary. It was 80 years ago the prison opened door to the worst criminals in the u. S. We got a chance to speak to the survivors and a band playing johnny cash tunes. Next on how you can share a ride and share the cost. Raising some a brows well be right back. On the new tempurchoice. The triple choice sale ends sunday at sleep train. L center in san. A new sign of trouble in the east bay, starting last week, a. M. Bhanss are no longer allowed at Doctors Medical ambulances are no longer allowed at san pablo. Ambulances are no longer being septembered accepted at the emergency room. I did not even hear that. After a parcel tax failed last may, the hospitals cripple debt is inching closer to closure. Whats really going on . Much of the money is going to care for the un or under insured. Here at the contra a services department, theyll be distributed to other hospitals depending on the patients conditions. Some of the options, martinez, richmond and berkeley. If those critical patients have heart attack or stroke, theyre going to be taken to the Specialty Centers and theres window of opportunity anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes in heart attack and up to four hours in stroke after the first symptoms arrive. Doctors hospital is severely short staffed and many employees have already jumped ship. The counties this plan will ultimately work out better for the patients who are there. Those patients arent convinced. It really makes me wonder about living here in san pablo. Yes, so none of those administrators were willing to speak on camera. Patients, though, who walk into the emergency room will be admitted so thats one thing that people might be taking advantage of. You can drive your loved ones to the hospital and get admitted to the emergency room. Dont call 911. And on the overall future of this hospital, its all still very much in the air, as well. And what about the other hospital that have to take on more patients . Its got to be hard for them, as well. The county has been working with all of the hospitals, as well, like alameda county, to make sure they are able to accept a certain number of patients. Thats quite a ways away theyre talking about hospitals that are up to 40 miles away. Thats a drive. Okay. Also talking about driving. Uber is testing its version of a car pool. Now customers can touch a screen and share a ride with someone nearby and also share the cost. Now, uber says this option on will 40 on a ride lower in fairs. So for example, from the castro to the financial district, that would cost about 6, and then sunset to soma, 10. All right. Cheaper ride is good, but would you be willing to share a cab . I heard a comedian talking about this, he said its just like taking muni. Rides like this, other places are doing, as well, for long rides, going to los angeles, hook three people to go together to l. A. And share the cost on that. Be interesting to see on our uber makes money on it how uber makes money on it. Seems like more hassle for the driver is. It will be very interesting. Car pool on the time. Just call it up, take a look, get lucky on the back seat. Winner gets to read shotgun. All these questions are there. I dont think thats a part of it. Well be right back with a final look at weather. ,,,, than s. All right. The forecast for this sunday morning, high temperatures for today, a cooler 64 in pacifica, 80 in redwood city as we head over further into the south bay, san jose at 77. So, the beginning of this week, it is going to be a cool to mild start to this work week. Today, were going to continue to see that cloud and drizzle, upper 50s to 60s out there right now. Most of the bay area, thats going to burn off later on this afternoon. And then as we head into the work week, were going to have a gradual warming trend for the second half of the work week, but this is a typical pattern for this time of year, really, nothing unusual, so the headline today, cloudy and a little bit of drizzle at least for this morning. And we got a little variety in there. Definitely. Thanks for joining us this morning. Face the nation is coming up on kpix 5 and if youre stepping out the door, we hope you enjoy your cloudy sunday.
