A few scattered showers. Making their way inland. We will see more of these throughout the day. Not talking about a rainout. Certainly scattered showers. Just enough to dampen outdoor plans. Temperatures out the door this morning, in the 50s and upper 40s. Nice and mild thanks to the increased cloud cover keeping a former to start the day. Later we warm into the low to mid50s. Mid50s inland. Near 60 for the coast. Scattered showers anticipated throughout the day here we will time that out as we see them move in just before lunch time for the northern half of the bay area. Scattered showers south throughout the afternoon. The full forecast coming up. And some sunshine on the way. I will let you know when. 20 people under arrest after a rally in berkeley turned violent yesterday. The cameras captured fight after fight as the anger between supporters and critics of the president escalated. We see how it all unfolded. The script is familiar right now. This rally meets a large counter protest. This time, under the title of patriots day as civic park. Trying to separate the right and left factions with flimsy orange fencing. The fencing was tossed in and replaced after one hour. With both sides exchanging blows. As well as pepper spray and rocks. Civil discourse and bpd watched trying to contain the crowd. One of the things about berkeley is that they are restricting freedom of speech. So these people that live in this city need to learn tolerance. The rally, response and violence were almost entirely predictable. There is a difference between free speech and free action. What is happening here is turning into action. It is to raise awareness. In the end, there were arrests and injuries. I personally believe that we should come back every single week until they understand what america is about. It is about freedom of speech. What if the antitrump folks showed up for a rally in bakersfield just to provoke you guys . I am a very tolerant person. And still no real understanding. That freedom of speech protects you from the government, not each other. In berkeley, kpix5. Here is a look at the Weapons Police confiscated at the protest. Dozens of wooden sticks and poles, mace and a stun gun were taken by police. Last week, pro trump and anti trump protesters clashed at the same berkeley park. Some left with bloodied faces and bruises. 10 people were arrested at that time. In february, another protest at berkeley. This one also turned violent. It was sparked by a rightwing commentator. At least six people were injured at that event. Police say that the protests costed more cost more than 100,000 in damage. A rye it was more like it. In both cases police have opted to stand back. They dont want to create even more trouble. We are seeing with the latest rounds, there is a bigger separation between those that are there to rumble and those that are there to express themselves. It was clear that the vast majority of people were not being violent. There was a small dedicated group. They came to the campus. That came to cause problems at. Berkeley is becoming ground zero. It is square in the center of berkeley by the Martin Luther king plaza. Becoming a fight cage for both sides. They advertise they are coming. They let everybody know they are coming. If you go down there, you are looking for something. On the peaceful end, across the country, thousands of protesters took to the streets to protest president Donald Trumps refusal to release his tax return to the public. In San Francisco, they chanted slogans for him to become more candid. The crowds converged at Civic Center Plaza and marched down market street. Demonstrators say they want to know what investment and debt the president has in foreign countries. I released mine. I think he should release his. I dont know why he hasnt. What is he hiding hiding . I cant understand it. He keeps saying, audit. I dont believe it. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke at the rally. Trump is the first president in more than 40 years that has not made his tax returns public. The battle over immigration played out in a federal courtroom in San Francisco friday. And issued an executive order threatening to cut federal funds from sanctuary cities and counties. People argued over whether a judge should issue an injunction and put a timeout on the executive order. And what the president s attorneys that may surprise you. President trump has made no secret of his desire to take federal funds away from sanctuary city is. He had this to say after the election on super bowl sunday. The sanctuary cities as you know, i am opposed to think cities. Lawyers representing the president say the executive order issued to defund sanctuary cities only reinforces current laws and policies. The judge asked that if that was the case, what with the purpose of the executive order be. In response, they said it is a purposely permissible use of the bully pulpit. Highlighting issues they cared deeply about. But why would the Administration Issue a legal document, an executive order, just to highlight an issue. Santa clara county Council James williams says President Trump used an official order because he wants to scare cities into abandoning their sanctuary policies. They are trying to have it both ways. Talk out of both sides of their mouth. They are trying to course changes and policies. But in court today, we are not doing anything. San Francisco Deputy attorney molly lee. San francisco is not going to be bullied by President Trump. We see the president s attorneys stepping back. Still what the president s attorneys say and what the president says, can be two very different things. We still need a court order. We cannot rely on the representation in court. A ruling on this injunction is expected in the coming weeks. I have to say that people are pretty surprised in the courtroom, when the u. S. Attorney said, but it doesnt mean anything. It is a document that restates current law. Both sides are sort of flip flopped in the courtroom. For example, the counties that were sanctuary cities are saying that they are following federal law. That they are in compliance. So there was both sides in the courtroom for the argument. And put the politics on the courtroom steps. That is true. The city and county of San Francisco and santa clara were also arguing and were not able to budget. The governments attorneys as, we have not done anything yet. The city said, we need to know now because we have to be able to look forward. Most federal funds come in the form of reimbursement. It was interesting to know that the city and countys estimates as to what would be effective were in the billions of dollars. But a little while ago, they said no, that it is a small part of the department of justice funding for the police and sheriffs operation. And San Francisco wont legally get any of it. Like i said, you have your legal statements in the courtroom and your political statements on both sides on the courtroom steps. Speaking of politics, will Diane Feinstein run for reelection . Yes. And she is hosting her first town hall meeting since President Trump took office. She will take questions from 11 00 a. M. Until noon, for one hour in San Francisco. Everyone attending will get a ticket that will allow them to ask the senator a question. However, the tickets will be put into a raffle and you will get to draw on whether you get to ask the question. It is free for attending. But it is already sold out. And there are no seats available. Melissa and i asked the former San Francisco mayor, willie brown, if this was in fact the openinground for her reelection bid. I have to assume that senator feinstein has decided that the state of california needs her presence in view of what is going on in washington. She was clearly one of the architects of having every democrat vote no on the Supreme Court nomination. I am pleased that she is looking forward to may be representing us again. She also held a couple of high profile fundraisers. There is every indication that she will run again. What about the pole. It came out of berkeley. The igs group. It raised questions about her age. It basically asked people what do you think of Diane Feinstein. And it disclosed her age, 84. And watch where the numbers move. What is interesting is that among democrats, the percentage drops with age. Exactly. They said, we dont think it is a good idea that she runs again, given her age. But with republicans, support went up. It went up from 12 , to 20 when republicans knew her age. Just keep in mind, there is not a soul in the state of california all 39 Million People, nobody can beat diane. Absolutely. So no democrat will make a move against her. Not at all. I dont think the party would let that happen. There is no way the Democratic Party would allow a legitimate challenger. If you recall when Bernie Sanders was here, he never referenced diane in any of the things he was doing. All of these people under 40 years of age and claim they are the next generation, not one of them says a word about diane. She occupies the position. I never enjoyed that kind of acceptance. She does. And you dont understand why. But when you do it is when you are on the election. The last time, did she even debate . She did and it was a big source of controversy. There was not a public debate. That is the kind of challenge we are seeing. Probably wont see someone willing that will actually force senator feinstein to feel like she has to come out. It is the seniority system at work. Intense flames with thick black smoke. How dozens of cars were destroyed at this east bay lot. , of cars in a parking lot. The thick black smoke coulde seen from miles away. It started in the insurance au auctions lot on stevenson boulevard around 4 30 yesterday. Its where carst were totaled or reposessed e there is a big mess to clean up in fremont after a massive fire destroyed dozens of cars in a parking lot. The thick black smoke could be seen from miles away. It started at stevenson boulevard around 4 30 yesterday. It is where cars that were repossessed were stored. High wind fanned the flames causing the fire to spread quickly. One of the cars started fire in the center of a bunch of cars there because of the wind and because it was unattended, it rapidly spread to 3040 cars. Nobody was hurt. No word yet on what caused the fire. Four of the five sports teams are playing this afternoon. So it will be a little crowded on the freeways in downtown. The Houston Astros are in town. The Colorado Rockies take on the giants. Both games start after 1 00. The warriors host the trailblazers in their first playoff game starting at 12 30. The sharks are in the playoffs taking on the edmonton oilers. That faceoff is at 7 00. Speaking of sports, it seems like yesterday that the team was talking about moving out of oakland and maybe to san jose. This season, the team has a new slogan rooted in oakland what is behind that . I spoke with the Team President about his commitment and the moves he is making behind the political power plays off the field. There was more to the as president taking the tarp off the seats at the stadium then just adding seats. Some politics at play. People have great memories here. In addition to giving the fans a bargain, half of the money from the 15 seats will go to local charity. And the first in line for the seed money is open promises, a pet charity of the oakland mayor, libby schaff, whose goal it is to triple the number of College Graduates work and the support the team will need in order to build the new ballpark. So if all of the charities in oakland, the first one you pick is the mayor . You cannot beat education so we are excited to support that. Libby has done a great job for the as. She supported us from the beginning. They are also setting up meetings with Community Groups across the city. We wanted to get more involved. It is a sharp reversal from a few years ago when the as were trying so hard. It seemed like night and day from the previous administration. We do a lot of Community Meetings and donate to a lot of charities. The first donation is going to the mayors charity. How political is that . They are staying in oakland. That is what we are excited about. We make sure that we are building the ballpark. And every tuesday, he opens his office to anyone that wants to make an appointment to come in and talk about anything. People try to sell me insurance. They look for jobs. I have had people tell me they want to play third base. Creating a groundswell of support and building a stadium. Really . And the new stadium is paid for by who . That is the interesting thing. The as will pay for it themselves. The reason being we are not up for putting any taxes in. But still, it will be tough. They have four sites they are looking at an oakland. Downtown along the waterfront is the current site. Each of them have a plus and minus. The mayor cannot afford to have another team in the city. Smart ball politics on sunday morning. Lets take a look at the weather. A few showers this Easter Sunday. You can see them moving onshore. Lets take a look at some of the first showers moving onshore right now up north. As the rain moves in, notice the timing. Around lunch time. 11 00, 12 00, 1 00, light rainfall. Starting in the northern portion of the bay area. Then spreading south. Getting some breaks in the rain. The rain we do see will be light and nature for the most part. Maybe some have your downpours. Overall, light scattered showers. Tapering off after sunset today. We should see them taper off a bit. But lingering through monday. Cannot rule out scattered showers and overcast. A little damp. A 40 chance for rain for most of us. Tuesday, another round of showers. Light in nature andscattered. Into wednesday, we see the ridge building in. Sunshine by the end of the week. Today, temperatures are on the cool side. Topping out in the mid to upper 60s. 64, mountain view. 60, pacifica. Hovering around at or below that in San Francisco and oakland at 59. If you are traveling to see relatives heading out of the city, keep in mind, in the city, we do have the three games today. We have the giants, the as and the warriors. And then a game tonight. There will be a lot of traffic with this. Outside the city, do anticipate showers basically for the northern portion of the state. The Easter Parade in San Francisco, 59 degrees. Showers continue through tuesday and wednesday we start to dry out. High pressure builds in and we should see more sunshine by the end of the week. You probably heard of coachella, the popular festival in southern california. Here in the bay area, hordes of people showed up for another festival. This first began a decade ago. For 5, adults or children get a chance to play with a baby goat at goatella. Most of this goes to the petting zoo. And a bay area mans wages were almost garnished after police cited a different man with the same name. ,,,,,,,,, debt collectors dont alway after the right person. Julie is here to explain hoe mans paycheck was almost garnished due to someone el debt. And how it could happen to Debt Collection as at an alltime high in the united states. It turns out that debt collectors dont always go after the right person. We are explaining how one mans paycheck almost got garnished due to someone elses name on it. It is astonishing how these things happen. Apparently they are happening more often then we realize. And you get a ticket or a fine from a government agency, it is sent to county court. If not paid, the court uses private debt collectors with power to garnish your paycheck. The problem, as we learn, is they are not only garnishing the right person does not always garnishing the right persons paycheck. He said he was shocked to see the notice from the task force thing his salary was about to be garnished. It said 786 for a court order debt will be deducted from his next paycheck that it did not say why. When he called the state Franchise Tax board to find out they said we cannot do anything to help you. The states of the garnishment order came from the Santa Clara County superior court. And that they could not help either. They said, we cant do anything about it. There was a homeless man with the same name, similar birthdate and a different address and physical description. It is not the first time the court targeted the wrong man. Wage garnishment are at an alltime high. And 4 million americans had wages seized in 2014 alone. The courts tell us they dont verify your identity before garnishing your wages. They say it is up to the issuing authority in this case. But went but when he went to the police station, they said it was too late. If you have the power to take money from people, you really should make sure they are the ones that did something wrong. We contacted the franchise task force which issued the garnishment this past friday. Greg is now filing an order which the court says will help separate his records from the other man with the same name in the future. The issue is, nobody seems to be verifying identity. They are using thirdparty debt collectors which presumably the court is contracting with. So they have some sort of obligation to make sure that debt collectors are going after the right people. And you have no warning. Legally, they are supposed to send notices before they do the garnishment. When you get that garnishment order, you are supposed to be able to show that you tried to notify the person. So he spent two weeks trying to fix it. He couldnt do it. He had to come to us. Really the notice is no help if it is two weeks before your garnishment. If you have a problem, come to julie. We will lock look at how much oversight they have and get back to you on that story. We sit down with one of the most influential figures at silicon valley. We will talk about how he is helping others fight President Trumps agenda. ,,,,,,,,, latest show of force. Is another failure. What the country did. Now on kpix5, north koreas latest show of force is another failure. What the country did in defiance of the u. S. And after the u. S. Unleashes 11 tons of explosives on afghanistan, the Trump Administration faces serious questions here and abroad. More fallout from the United Airlines issue. Welcome back to kpix5 this morning. He was spotted at one of his golf clubs. First Lady Melania Trump will be hosting the traditional white house easter egg roll. Vice president mike pence is on a 10 day trip to asia. His first stop is north korea. Hours before the lot of the Vice President landed, north korea launched a missile that exploded almost immediately after it was fired. This was a day before north korea showed off its intercontinental lipstick missiles in a grand military parade to celebrate the first day of the countrys founding. One u. S. Foreign policy advisor traveling with Vice President mike pence said this comes as no surprise. We have donald trump on china with one position position. And then the next day, a different position. Nato, the same thing. Is flopping and flying all over the place. What is this guy up to . Backup for a second. Because he changed his mind when Greater Knowledge occurred with reference to things like chinese manipulation of money and all of the other kinds of things that he talked about, including what happens with nato and you call it a flipflop . Know. It is an Intelligent Movement from one spot to another by a guy who must, at all times, be flexible enough to do that. All of this information was available before the election. It is not like we just learned the data about this. You guys assume that he would be looking at that information. He was looking at issues and ideas that got him votes. That would not have gotten him a vote. The fact that he ignore that information and went for the closer with joe sixpack lets get back to joe six pack. The journalist we pick it apart because that is what we do. The democrats pick it apart because that is what they do. What does joe sixpack think of this . Paying no attention. He could not care less. As a matter of fact, he treats each of you as if you are one in the same. All journalists as all democrats. That is what joe sixpack thinks. If you have real troops on the ground they are more concerned about the infrastructure and the tax breaks than foreignpolicy. It really only becomes tangible for most peoples lives when you are talking about big serious military engagement. Just think about all the nonsense about the tax return. Joe sixpack could not care less about Donald Trumps tax return. You are known for saying one thing and doing another with your career. How did you get away with it . As has been the case, when people who can entertain i would try my best to get you laughing. And when you are laughing, i would take your wallet. [ laughter ] and whatever trump is doing, it seems to be working. Newest fundraising numbers are in. He raised 13 million. It is interesting about what he decides to do publicly with a big brass band and what he does privately. Here is an example. He did this behind closed doors. President trump lightly signed a resolution that allows states to defund Healthcare Providers that offer abortions like planned parenthood. But it does not take effect on the federal level. It does overturn an obama era rule that prohibits states for funding Healthcare Providers with political or and afterward, met with Political Rights activists. We talked about how important this was. We talked about how this is a promise kept. It is important for people to see that. To see him sign the bill. The bill passed the Senate Last Month after Vice President mike pence cast of the tie breaking vote. Land parenthood calls this the worst political impact in Womens Health in a generation. And it could be leading to states blocking access to healthcare should make it appear that the Trump Administration is also preparing for a massive crackdown on undocumented immigrants. Putting together a huge deportation force. Attorney general Jeff Sessions outlined an aggressive plan during his job in arizona last week. He called for harsher penalties for repeat Border Crossers and plans to go after migrants for document fraud. He also warned anyone who helped Illegal Immigrants cross the border. And an internal Homeland Security document obtained by the Washington Post found that the federal agency has secured 33,000 more detention beds. And identified ways to quickly hire hundreds more Border Patrol officers. And finally, to begin plans to build a border wall right away. Meanwhile, one of silicon valleys biggest tech players is getting charged up about politics as well. The head of the largest Startup Accelerator in the world and he spoke to us about social change and startups last thursday. He has been an outspoken critic of the president and helped build a website to hold President Trump accountable for keeping his campaign promises. I think more than usual but all the time, people need to stand up for what they believe in. It is not a time to be quiet. He also rushed to help the aclu after 24 million in donations poured in over one weekend as a form of protest against the president s travel ban. Still to come, united headed for a court battle over this viral video. I sit down with a travel expert to talk about what could have been done to prevent it and what you can do to make sure it doesnt happen to you. ,,,,,, pg e learned a tragic lesson we can never forget. Gathered outside the Federal Building yesterday to rally against United Airlines. Theyre upset about the now vira a protest taking over the streets of San Francisco. Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the Federal Building yesterday to rally against United Airlines. They are upset about the now viral video that Chicago Police forcibly removed a passenger, doctor david dao, from united flight. Organizers tell us they are calling out airlines that put profit before passengers. We are not cargo, luggage, that they can dragon pull away. Protesters tell us they are demanding sweeping policy changes. Changes that go beyond offering more money to passengers to give up seats. Joining us to talk about this fiasco is the president of Industry Analysis and Atmospheric Research group. You take a look at flying the sometimes friendly and sometimes unfriendly skies. How common is what happened in chicago going on . But not just on video and pulling people out but bumping them randomly . The good news is, people are bumped less now then they were in years past. The airlines are doing a better job of encouraging us to voluntarily give up our seats. I will tell you that i have been on flights where i have seen passengers asked to get off to accommodate a crew member. But we have never seen anything like what happened last week. This is a visual manifestation and representation of people being frustrated. It is a tough experience. You have to wait in line. You have to get there early. Flights are increasingly crowded. You often here that every seat is taken. Every baggage space is taken. How much of this is the product of Airline Consolidation and increasing profits . First, there is a consolidation. Fewer flights and fewer seats compared to a few years ago. Second, the economy is strong. A lot of people are traveling. They are traveling because airfare is down. It is a mix of good and not so good things. What we saw last week was an explosive decompression of passenger anger. I think they are just tired of being treated as selfloading cargo. How much of this, are the Airlines Just betting on . They take a look at statistically, how many people show up for flights and how many miss them. They oversell flights routinely, correct . Some do and some dont. Jetblue does not overbook. In this case, the united flight was not overbooked. They had them for pilots and flight attendants that had to get to another destination to operate another flight. Everybody saw this. How much of this kind of bumping goes on . In terms of the number of people that are denied boarding you are bumped from the flight without your consent, totaled 40,000 people last year out of 100 plus Million People flying in the u. S. It doesnt matter if it is how much it is, if it happens to you, and you dont want to. What are your rights . First, with the airlines are trying to do is to get people to voluntarily give up seats. They offer money, frequent flyer miles and all sorts of things. If they come to you and they say, they need your seat, you dont have many rights as a traveler. Your best thing to do is to cooperate with the airline employee, get off the plane and negotiate the best deal you can. When you are off the plane, what is your leverage so quick they have to transport you to your destination. When they take you off the plane, without your consent, it is no fun for them. Do the airlines have rules . How much are they willing to give . How high . My advice to you, when you hear and agent say, we are looking for volunteers, you start to listen and raise your hand and negotiate with the agent. The agents have negotiating room. In the case of delta airlines, when they had their cancellations, some people were getting 2000 or more for their flights. United agent was able to offer 1000. They now said a couple things. First, they will allow agents to do more, in terms of what they pay. Second, they will make sure no pilots or flight attendants they dont want to remove people from a flight like this again. Somebody could hold up 10, 100dollar bills and set them off to the side and say the first four of you to get over here can pick this up. Then you have a stampede. It is voluntary. It is kind of like what is good for you and what is good for us as the airline. Final question. Airline profits, up, down . Where are they these days so quick they are up. Because of Strong Demand and affordable fares. It goes to show that everybody is making a buck off of this and you can too. If they pull you off, you could make a lot in court. Industry forecaster, thank you very much. Now we will look at the forecast outside, the weather with julie. How is that for a segue . Great segue. The forecast is looking scattered showers.
