Ships have been used for temporary housing before. We did it in 1989 and used it for approximately 2 weeks because of the earthquake. People had a safe and clean place to live for a short time. The Mayors Office says that the idea is farfetched and they will stick with what they are already doing. But the question is, is what they are doing working . First of all, as the mayor points out, we have the Navigation Centers in San Francisco and in homeless shelters around the bay area but is it enough to get the job done or just bailing out the sinking ship with the dixie cup . It is a mass moved to get people off of the streets, or at least say all at once either go to the ship or get off of this street. But it is making a move rather than a piecemeal approach. The Financial Issues as well but as the mayor points out, we are spending a quarter of 1 billion a year on the Homeless Program that is not working. And on to other bay area headlines because we can talk about this forever. In san mateo, they are working to get out the vote, the initiative that will tie the rent increases to the Consumer Price index and it will include production protection from the unjust evictions, but some say it does nothing to address the housing crunch. And you may be of deceit in this photo, going up in the middle of downtown as part of the new Bay Transit Center project, a 22 million ramp that will connect the terminal to the bay bridge and is expected to be finished by the end of year, along with being a visual attraction. It is the third time weve had a special session to get money to fix the potholes. One problem is we need a two thirds majority vote to produce, extend attacks and that means bringing in republicans with the democrats, and that is not going to happen. That two thirds threshold is problematic, and it gives the power to the majority party. This is the second year that the governors weighed in, and taking the duck hunt. It is possible we could be called back into a special session, and the governor has hinted after the november elections that he would call a special session to new, and we have over 87 billion in need of repair for the bridges, highways and roads.
