The president ial election less than three months away, and Hillary Clinton and donald trump are going full speed ahead on the campaign trail. Vice President Joe Biden would join clinton for a rally in northern pennsylvania tomorrow, Trump Campaigning at the Youngstown State University in ohio. And before traveling to wisconsin for another campaign event, republican nominee says in november that he could win the states that of gods the democrats recent elections, including pennsylvania. This is after trump morning that the election could be rigged. I really mean this, pennsylvania, delaware i could not win is if cheating goes on. Reporter trump is trailing in the polls in the battleground states, and this weekend the Clinton Campaign is wasting no time in criticizing the trump character on the campaign. This guy will make up anything. And we are not gullible people. The California Democrats are heading out of state, to support Hillary Clinton. Three dozen people gathered in oakland and said the election is too important, and the polls showing Hillary Clinton far ahead of donald trump in california, and volunteers are traveling to the battleground states to campaign to the voters, and in 20 1220 call for the president obama came from this date but they want to take the power across the state lines. I have hundreds of thousands of miles, and im part of a Global Community and i beds all over the country i have beds all over the country and i will go wherever i needed. They are talking about issues they agree on with hopes that the candidates can prevail. It sounds like these volunteers are used to traveling out of state. They are. California is such rich democratic territory, and they borrowed these volunteers. Coming up we will sit down with our former state Assembly Speaker mayor willie brown and why he thinks that donald trump may not need or want the Republican Party at this point. The firearm enthusiasts making a push to roll back the recently passed california gun laws, the newly formed group, a play on armageddon, and they have began circulating petitions over the weekend at the gun stores and firing ranges around the state. Their goal is to overturn a halfdozen new state laws, including those that require background checks on ammunition sales, the ban on the high capacity magazines and bullet buttons, and the law that makes it a crime not to report the stolen gun. The opponents claim that the lawmakers push this through to quickly and it should be the voters that decide, and they need 365,000 signatures to get the referendum on the ballot, and if they missed the deadline they will have to wait until 2018. Community letters leaders gathering in San Francisco to call a moratorium on the use of force, and the goal is to consider the option of complete disarmament of Police Forces with a multitude of communitybased solutions. They will meet tomorrow afternoon at the Mission Police station at 17 and valencia. They will decide on the measure about the proposed utility tax, this comes after city council has approved placing it on the ballot, and it past the could raise a little over 2 million each year for the contra costa Fire District. It would place a 3. 5 levy on the utilities, and aimed at helping the Fire District open a second fire station in the summer lakes area of oakley. It could be up to the voters to decide when the minimum wage will take effect in berkeley, the city council was to vote on it this week, but not enough member showed up and it could be put on the november ballot, and voters would decide whether the 15 an hour hike should take effect next year instead of 2019. In san mateo workers could see a wage hike after City Council Meets tomorrow on voting on the minimum wage, and the recent state law will raise the minimum wage to 15 in 2022, but the san mateo ordinance would raise the wages by 2019. The meeting will get underway tomorrow at 7 pm. Muni working on a project to improve Public Transportation to and from the most popular neighborhoods in San Francisco. At the board meeting, they said that the Transit Agency will recommend changes to improve circulation expanding the Mission Product on the 14 line, more than 65,000 people a day run on the buses along the mission street. They want to know who is footing the bill and they want 16 billion deficit tunnel deal that is being backed by governor jerry brown, and the tunnels are expected to carry water from the sacramento rivers in south to the valley and into Southern California. The governor has been saying that the local water districts that would receive the water would foot the bill, but the district in Southern California has issued a monthly status report indicating that it had been promised that the state and federal money would be used to complete the planning phase. Both the state and the feds are launching audit. The deadly crash in downtown San Francisco and the push to keep the passengers safe on the tour buses, and we have assemblyman phil tang joining us and the hurdles they will have to jump through to make this become a reality. We will discuss the audit and the spending at the university of california. Starting out with dense fog in many locations once again this morning, clear today and going from us, your details in the forecast coming up. To find out the voting in florida, see face the nation. ,,,,,,, on the senate to pass a bill he introduced by the end of the month. Th a push to protect the passengers on board the tour buses, the Assembly Member calling on the senate to pass the bill that he introduced by the end of the month. The proposal would allow communities to set up their own inspection program, right now only done by the chp, the bill introduced after the november tour bus crash injuring 19 people. The Police Investigation found the crash caused by the driver that was cited for speeding. And we have our simply mill for Assembly Member here to talk about this. This is the round robin, and the california Highway Patrol is in charge of inspecting the tour buses but they can only inspect 130 year, so this is kind of a round robin. Right now we have two bills going through, and they will be increasing the number of investigations. Lets back it up, you would allow the local districts to raise money in charge however they cant and pay the chp to do more. And why does the state not just cause charged the companys more that are doing this shuttles . We will increase the bill that will help the matter, and it will help to solve the problem. It looks to me like sacramento is getting into when these things were the lawmakers come up with a solution but the locals have to foot the bill. Thats not too and we are doing both, increasing the amount of the fee for the Bus Companies to increase the number of inspections, and allowing the locals to take more control of the situation to increase the amount of fees being charged for the tour buses, and they can pay chp to do this. We have tour buses that go around the city, and if it is doubledecker and people looking at sites, but on the freeways we have tour buses going to napa, casinos, and there appears to be an explosion, and are they being regulated and are they say . Are they safe . They are not being regulated anywhere close to where they should be, so many accidents and fatalities. This is the opportunity to call on more inspection and control. Right now the regulation is within the Public Utilities commission, and there is a proposal to move that out and move it to the dmv. Once we get it looking into the regulatory process, it looks like no one is really looking at it. Dmv, chp, none of this is getting the job done. Lets move on to another set of initials, you see, the uc, president s office is 668 million. That is up from 355 million in 0708. We need to have the state auditor go in and take a look, and we have an explosion of out ofstate students coming into the uc. We are proud and we want to make sure that more californians get access to the uc and we want to make sure they are spending the money as efficiently as possible. It sounds like you may put the hammer on the uc president s office and tell them to do what we want them to do, and we will give you a big payday a big headache if you dont. No, we want to take issue with all of it. We have a budget process to go through. I love that, we are not trying to get leverage, we have a budget process. They want 3 billion a year from the state, and then they want us to not have oversight or transparency and they cannot have both. It should be interesting and we will keep an eye on the budget process and the spending process, and we will take a break and take a look at the numbers today for the weather. Fantastic transition, that is right. We take a look at the numbers in the Current Conditions this morning. If youre heading out to brunch or church, the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s, and be cautious, especially along the coast, take a look at this this dense fog is super dents, and dense, and low cloud and fog making its way inland, and we are having reduced visibility. You could see patchy and dense fog. In spite of this the morning there is not very deep, and it will deepen as this trough approaches later in the day, and that will bring cooler temperatures and more of a marine influence with an onshore flow and seabreeze, helping the temperatures by a few degrees. And of course that is the exception far inland. This marine layer is beefing up through the afternoon and evening, keeping temperatures cooler tomorrow. We will rebound as we head toward midweek. Low clouds at the coast today and sunshine for most inland locations. Slightly cooler for most today, and for tomorrow, but overall the usual summertime pattern, nearnormal heading through midweek. Temperature inland topping out in the low to mid 90s, and 80s with a couple of 90s in the warmer spots to the south, and 50s and 60s along the coast, 70s along the bay, low to mid 80s in the north bay, santa rosa and napa both 82 today. Your summer jazz festivals afternoon and temperatures 85 with sunshine. Driving to the festival in oakland, reaching nearly 70 degrees a later today. That is at lake mary, and today like going for most, cooling and more clouds on monday with temperatures rebounding by the midweek. Back to you. But that doesnt stop my afib from leaving me at a higher risk of stroke. Thatd be devastating. I took warfarin for over 15 years until i learned more about oncedaily xarelto. A latest generation blood thinner. Then i made the switch. Xarelto® significantly lowers the risk of stroke in people with afib not caused by a heart valve problem. It has similar effectiveness to warfarin. Warfarin interferes with vitamin k and at least six blood clotting factors. Xarelto® is selective targeting one critical factor of your bodys natural clotting function. For people with afib currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. Like all blood thinners, dont stop taking xarelto without talking to your doctor, as this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. While taking you may bruise more easily, and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Xarelto may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. Xarelto can cause serious, and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Get help right away for unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising or tingling. If you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. Do not take xarelto if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. Xarelto. Deepblue connecticut. He acknowledges that most republicans dont compete in the state. His push to win big comes just as 75 republicans signed a letter urging the rnc to steer resources away from trump. And toward congressional races. Sources familiar with the rnc plans say the r nc chairman is not seriously considering that yet. This weekend he took to the campaign trail backing trump. I asked former San Francisco mayor willie brown and kpix 5 political analyst melissa caen. If donald trump even needs the Republican Party. Brown not really, he proved that during the course of the primaries, when he went through everything they had to offer, as he literally left the field with a lot of blood, and believe me, going forward, trump is looking for trump voters, most of whom, are registered in the Republican Party, but many of whom are not 08 06 10,11 caen but wait, doesnt he need the ground game and the local offices that the rnc can provide, cuz he really has, really none in his Main Campaign . 08 06 18,03 brown i think youre rooted in yesterday, the world of politics has changed dramatically and is changing. Bernie changed exactly that, by virtue of how he operated. Trump has proven that even more dramatically. Hes creating his own machine so to speak. Only to get himself elected, not to get anybody else elected 08 06 39,28 caen well that can get you in the polls but only so far, dont you need the sort of outreach, the knocking on the doors, the asking for the vote that comes with sort of a ground game that the rnc needs to provide 08 06 50,18 brown but trumps method has never been tested, because its never been here before, and so he is banking on the fact that people will go out to vote for him if he can cause them to be as enthusiastic 08 07 02,19 matier so wait, so what youre saying is he is basically telemarketing the candidacy, hes not going around, he s not going through the usual mail, knock on door, phone callinga hes going straight to you through twitter, through tv and through a daily dose of radio 08 07 15,14 brown and by me . 08 07 16,10 matier and by me . 08 07 17,12 brown and hes being very careful if you notice, he has not shown up, in most cases to be interviewed, except by fox. And believe me, i think rodger ailes is gonna show up somewhere in september running the Trump Campaign 08 07 31,10 matier oh that would certainly be a story. 08 07 32,21 caen well hes banned basically everybody else, i think he might have banned fox for a minute there as well, you never really know 08 07 36,20 matier lets flip the coin here, what about republicans saying about trump or his absence as the top of the ticket, the effect that might have 08 07 45,28 caen well i mean, so today we had this grand sit down between members of the rnc and trump to try and sort of reach an agreement between the two of them, because look the rnc needs to money and enthusiasm that trump can bring to the table, throwing out trump throws out a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of thon him using social media to always rise at every news cycle at the top, and so far, hes doing just that anchors react to pkg next caltrains is looking to improve the system. And of course its start with the forecast lets start with the forecast. We are in the Summer Season where things look the same day today, but cooling a few degrees inland. As we look at the Golden Gate Bridge, pretty much like it was yesterday and dense fog along the coast with temperatures in the 50s and mid 60s. You will see low clouds beginning today inland and that will pull back to the coast later today with sunshine inland. Reduced visibility to a mile and a half at the half moon bay, 3 miles in petaluma, three quarters of a mile in santa rosa. These are the reporting stations so you could have areas of dense fog with only a few feet of visibility along the coast. Temperatures cooling a few degrees for most folks, and we will talk about that coming up. It all started when the police tried to pull off pull over a driver and that two mean ran off, and one suspect was armed and he refused to drop the gun, and the Police Officers fired and he died at the scene and that is what sparked the violent. It will be interesting and Toney Chaplin is the front runner, and is pretty much the designated guy to go in the slot but they are doing a nationwide search nonetheless. Why are they doing a nationwide search if he is the top candidate . It is amazing we always do this and nine times out of 10 they wind up back between the two bridges, and that is how it goes. Considering a proposal to get Police Department reinforcements on the outside Law Enforcement agencies, and the proposal is the idea of bring in the chp officers and a Santa Clara County deputy to help with the San Jose Police and Law Enforcement visibility until the department has enough cops to replenish itself, but not everyone is on board. Coming up next, the dea declining to loosen the restrictions on medical marijuana, and we will have jason joining us with the impact on what this could have with the vote to legalize pot for Recreational Use in november. Remember that kpix is your extensive home for the 49ers preseason opener tonight against houston, preseason at 3 30 pm, kickoff at 4 00, and watch 60 minutes on your cable 12. We will be right back. Decided marijuana will remain what is called a scheduleone drug. A major setback for the supporters of legalizing pot after the dea has decided that marijuana will remain what is called a schedule 1 drug, the category for the most dangerous drugs with no medical application. It is not about danger. Stuff in schedule 1 could be really dangerous or not its dangerous, it is whether it affects medicine. The federal law, california one of several states that allow the use of various forms of marijuana for medical use, and the dea decision comes at a time when the voters are preparing to vote on the legalization of pot for Recreational Use in november, and so far the state lawmakers are saying no. The bill would raise 71 billion in revenue but it died in committee, and taxes on marijuana would range from 4. 75 to 13 per ounce going toward Law Enforcement and environmental cleanup. We will talk more about the deas announcement and the possible effect on the November Vote to legalize pot for reparation use. And Jason Kennedy has been voting yes for marijuana for years, and you are find an upstanding young man, and you have children, and what would your mother say . I might say that my mother would say that thousands of arrest means a failed war on marijuana, and this is a social justice issue, and it touches everybody even though they may not know about it, and we need a better way. There is a broad in public support for that, medical experts say it, california has a chance to take aim leadership role in november and i think they will. The campaign has the support of the Lieutenant Governor gavin newsom and others, and pushing the decriminalization of it, the idea that people going to jail for pot should stop. They are not necessarily addressing the key issue on whether marijuana recreationally would be a good thing for society, and what will this dea report do that since they are saying it is not something soft and should stay off of the table . There is legitimate outrage across the country about the dea decision that miracle marijuana has no accepted medical use, flying in the face of science and medical at these and a slap in the face of the tens of thousands of medical patient that rely on medical marijuana for things like epilepsy and alzheimers disease along with posttraumatic stress disorder in california. The medical system only works if there is also an adult view system. Symptomatic patients can act as the medical system, and those that are responsible adults can access adult use. The safe system out of public view and away from the children, and that is what prop 64 will do. Experts have evaluated to see what is working and not working and they say that is the best approach and that is what california has done. You could get x first essay pick any side and come across reasons. Polling, shows 61 to 63 . The polling numbers are looking good, better every day. Lets look at the political insider, the federal government says that marijuana is not good for anything. That is what the dea said, but president obama himself that it was less harmful than alcohol, and there are trends in congress. If the dea had approved or moved to change the status of marijuana, would that have helped or hurt the campaign in november question mark a lot . And the feds are not moving is what is driving this. Anybody that cares about good Public Policy is wishing the dea would have made a different decision. That being said, this reminds the people that the states are the laboratory for democracy on issues like this, just like Marriage Equality and healthcare reform. The number of boaters sitting on the fence voters sitting on the fence may decide to hold off and wait a few years. You are making the point for me. If we want to drive real change at the federal level, the states had to do it, and california being the largest state gives us that opportunity. Maybe the dea is doing you a favor. The voters in california have a chance to send this message across the country with prop 64. Keep working on it. Thank you for coming in. And when the kids step out what will they see . A lot of fog, and folks inland will see sunshine, and more sunshine out for the inland locations as we take a look outside, temperatures in the mid50s and low 60s. 54 in San Francisco, 56 in oakland. You cannot even see the Golden Gate Bridge because of the fog, and in some the inland valleys as well and along the bay. Gray skies have made their way inland so everybody starting out cloudy. The marine layer is not very deep to start but will deepen later in the day as this upper level trough approaches. We will see more seabreeze and onshore flow and temperature should begin to cool for most of the folks with the exception those that are far inland, no marine influence. Slight cooling expected are many locations today, and the future cast shows the marine layer beefing up later today and into tomorrow. Tomorrow will be cool once again, and cool seasonally speaking, but temperatures still in the 90s for some locations. Cool by our standards. Low clouds persistent at the coast with temperatures in the 50s and ask these. Slightly cooler for most today compared to yesterday, and we will stay in that range for tomorrow as well. The usual summertime pattern for everybody this week with temperatures near the norms through midweek next week. High temperatures today in the low to mid 90s at the warmest spots, east bay is 80s, 85 in san jose, and we could see some low 90s. 50s and 60s along the shore, by the bay in the 70s and low 80s for santa rosa and napa in the mid80s. The summertime jazz festival temperatures in the mid80s, and that is san jose. Slightly cooler than yesterday for most folks and cooler tomorrow with temperatures rebounding through the midweek and slightly cooling toward the end of next week. Back over to you. In the race for the white house, new polls showing Hillary Clinton leading in the key battleground states and just months before the election, and the political insiders weigh in on how she should be doing without trump. ,,,,,,, show Hillary Clinton leading the way in key battleground states. In florida, clinton is ahead of donald trump by five points among registered in the race for the white house, the National Polls are showing Hillary Clinton leading in the key battleground states, clinton ahead in florida by donald trump by five, and the former secretary of state in carolina North Carolina has a 9 lead over trump. And in virginia, a big lead as well. We sit down with our x San Francisco mayor willie brown and ask Hillary Clinton would do without donald trump. Our expert San Francisco mayor willie brown and ask how to Hillary Clinton would do without donald trump. She could do her lowprofile campaign and state in the limelight with the email issue and the economic numbers coming down, and i think she is thoroughly enjoying donald trump keeping the spotlight. I think hillary is a serious problem, and that will be and is her emails. And laying it out instead of discussing the Second Amendment comment, laying out how this alleged criminal enterprise of Hillary Clinton. Between Hillary Clinton, bill clinton and the foundation. There is another blurb from some legitimate source, not trump directly but from a legitimate source, and she should be 20 or 30 points ahead, and she is not. At some point if trump becomes halfway rational, and halfway aware of what he is saying, hillary would be challenged to hold on. Has she ever, in your opinion, given a defense or answer to the relationships between herself as secretary of state, her husband and the foundation . She has been skating around that, and when she has given answers they are not true. Are not truthful. You mean accurate . Well, she said she sort circuited, so you know. Lets pause here, an interesting political issue, and what is the difference between truth and accuracy . For politicians, if it is wonderful and i said it is the truth. If it is wonderful and you say it and it hurts me, it may or may not be accurate. [ laughter ]. There you go, a good lesson. Back to the Clinton Campaign, mayor brown is of the opinion that she should be doing much better. That is true, but she has a lot of negatives and even coming into this, i am not sure the American People want to hear anymore about the emails. And linking the foundation to her as secretary of state, i dont think people care at this point about the issue, and it is way more interesting to see what new and exciting thing trump has said today. Hillary left her job as secretary of state with high numbers, people were optimistic about her life and her career. And it was as if she cleaned up all of the stuff that had preceded it, whether it was whitewater, it did not matter, everything was gone.
