And the town of broga will present the results of the extensive study to determine the cause of the massive sinkhole, and last week they declared a state of emergency to help the time of the sinkhole repair cost estimated to be 3. 5 million. This will wipe us out, every reserve that we have. It will put us in a position that if anything happens like an earthquake, which could happen. They will present the findings on wednesday. And moraga isnt affluent community, but the city does not see a lot of income when it comes to the tax revenue. Its a serious situation, and there are also gas leaks, so youre talking about safety concerns, and that can be a deadly situation obviously with pg e in san bruno. And speaking of san bruno, it was supposed to be the beginning of the trial in that explosion. The explosion of that pg e pipeline killed eight people and destroy 13 homes, and they are facing criminal convictions, and the judge would have the authority to require more government monitoring. The judge postponed the trial indefinitely, and decided that the defense needed more time to review the documents that the prosecution recently provided. The people that were affected by that blast are frustrated by this delay, and they want to see justice. And there is also already been several rulings, and the bottom line is they will never be able to repay the people for what they lost. Right. They have already paid 1. 6 billion in fines, and no pg e executives are specifically charge, and this could force them to moves on the management system, but overall, it does not look like anybodys going to jail for this. I think many folks would like to put this to bed. We will cover the trial when and if it actually starts. And berkeley is the focus of it hearing. The Senate Committee will discuss what is been done to tighten the oversight of the contractors with the history of construction defects settlements. In the berkeley case, they determined that water was trapped inside the wood during the construction of the balcony that led to the drywall dry rot that killed six people and injured many others. A proposal requiring stricter rules regulating the inspections heading to the appropriations committee. This was inspired by this crash in San Francisco in november, and under the current rules, the chp only inspects a sample of the buses in each leaked, only 70 of the tour buses are not inspected. And certainly when we discovered this, a lot of people were shocked, and did not realize that all of the buses were not inspected. And Bus Companies can maneuver and have certain buses available for inspection. If there were some buses they were concerned about, they may not be inspected. Its a joke. And people think they will be inspected when they get on these tour buses and that they will be safe, but apparently we cannot take that for granted. Back hopefully the new rules will close these loopholes. Tomorrow, the Palo Alto City Council is expected to vote for the ban of two story homes in the manner neighborhood, and the majority of the homes were developed by eichler, and his Signature Design is one story with floor to ceiling windows, and some longtime residents say that the twostory homes would run the neighborhoods original charm and compromise their privacy. And will that carry more people . It depends on how many railcars. But if you can run the trains close together, we can get 25 more trains into downtown San Francisco every morning. Downtown San Francisco remains the core, and San Francisco voters will pick up the tab, Alameda County taxpayers and Carson Acosta and why shouldnt they be paying in san jose . They never joined the bart district. But with the santa clara station, we made a deal with them. And they pay for the entire extension in the construction, and they will pay for the operation of the extension. And they had to put the money into the capacity improvements to make the extension work. We are in the process of purchasing railcars, and Santa Clara County was the first to pay for the railcars, and they bought the 60 that they needed for the first phase of extension, but we did not cut that deal for the san mateo county. In most of their structure is new, built in the past 15 years, the we need to get them to pay their fair share. I cannot get over how Much Development and the building going on, from the bay point all the way to you name the station and its going up. Any thought to making them charge and pay the fee . Yes, and looking at the other cities, and as we do the impact these, some of that money needs to go to bart. San francisco is been resisting this for 20 years, but they have finally come around, and putting a small amount of money into it. And people making billions of dollars over the landed San Francisco, but the thing that allows all of that to happen is this infrastructure. The transit. Allaround bart. If we can get some of those billions toward the infrastructure, that would help. And get it off of my back, thank you. Now lets take a look at the weather. And the winds will begin to die down on monday, and they advisories will continue through monday. And we could get some showers in the outlying areas, but for most of us will stay dry, but very windy on the second half of the day. The low average temperatures for this time of year, upper 60s is the hyper most people in the south bay, and around 70 degrees, and samestore into east bay. A sprinkle or two possible in the east bay, and around the bay, the wind is the main story with temperatures in the low 60s. And just like the warmer, upper 60s near 70 for the north bay. Your extended forecast on temperatures staying on the cool side, is below average, and dry through midweek. The next chance for showers is wednesday into thursday, and right now, we are looking dry for the next weekend. Uber has settled a lawsuit to keep their drivers as independent contracts, and we take a look at the impact it will have on the industry as a whole. ,,,,,,,,, drivers as independent contractors. Drivers in california an welcome back. Uber is shelling out 100 million to keep their drivers as independent contractors. Uber says that the drivers should be freelancers, and uber agreed to allow the drivers to post signs asking for tips. And we asked the former mayor brown and analyst melissa kane how big was the settlement. Pretty big. There is a combination of things going on. You have people that are genuinely working and they need the assistance, they need healthcare and all of the kinds of things that go with real employment. And you cannot be giving them directions and not have them under your control. That is the kind of thing that went on inside this courtroom. And in addition, those of us from organized labor are raising serious questions about these independent contracting, and if you do not show up for the labor rally or the labor dues, and you do not show what to support me when im running. Youre talking about the drivers . Absolutely. How do we stay ahead of this . It is difficult, and they are looking to create a new Legal Definition of something between an independent contractor an employee, and germany has an in between legal status where they get provided some benefits but not all of the benefits of employees, and you see these companies lobbying in congress to try to create a different legal framework. Do you think that the tech will try to exercise its strings through polls politics or the courts, or the bureaucracy . Who is going to have the biggest influence here . Let me assure you of one thing. In the world of tech, they have the best brown brainpower if they need it. And i suspect that after this decision, inside of those boardrooms, inside of those think tanks, there will be a creative ands a solution that will be marketable and sold. We tried to say that, but you had that bureaucrat at the Treasury Department in San Francisco that say you also need individual business licenses. In the bay area, hazmat was called to the scene of the fire at a recycling center, and check out that plume of smoke, and the nearby businesses and homes at the shelter in place for several hours. It is not clear how the fire started in nobody was injured. The California Highspeed Rail Authority repair to meet in sacramento to consider changes to the route of the bullet train. On track to go from Central Valley to san jose instead of south to the san fernando valley. This will shift it and attestation in bakersfield. The chairman of the board says that the biggest criticism is the obvious lack of funding. The investors are there, but they need to see, because they do not have experience with the highspeed rail in the u. S. , and they said they need to see the first leg up and running, and they have told us that. There is a combined potential investment for over 20 billion. The meeting is set for thursday, and it is still optimistic, but they say could be coming to the south bay by 2025. In the funding is the elephant in the room. And if you are looking to an alternative to the highspeed rail, a new option called in the sleep a bus. Thats right. It takes a takes off from downtown San Francisco, and arriving at the santa monica pier at about 6 am the next morning, excuse me, six a half hours later. You can do the math. And they have a bed, outlets and wifi, and it will cost between 100 and 150 per trip. And a rise in la at about 5 30 am, but the cool thing is that you can continuously in your pot until checkout time. It sounds good, you can sleep the entire way there. Especially considering the cost of a hotel in la and San Francisco, the highest cost of a hotel room in the country right now, so thats not bad. A show of force and San Francisco for the fourlegged friends. Another effort by the bay area dog owners to get the attention of the National Park service. Not advocates wanted to urge the officials to scrap the proposal to reduce the dog access in the Golden Gate National recreation area. These changes would cut 90 of the leased areas in half of the on leash areas. This is wrong, and these dramatic restrictions and reductions in the dog access is going to have a profound impact. Under this month the San Francisco dog owners have filed a lawsuit to force the National Park service to release information on the dog walking and its impact in the park. I think a lot of people would like to see that information. And we are both dog walkers, so we are all for full disclosure. A lot of people are concerned about the off leash issues, and there a big dogs, and often reported that the other dogs are attacked. But for those folks that live in the city, and it has been said that there are more dogs than kids in the city, not a lot of places to take the animals and not a lot of grass except for those National Recreation areas. Its a big controversy, and certainly a lot of political pressure from the dog owners, and they are taking Public Comments through may 25 on this subject. And biting members of the community to barbecue. And the cuckoos nest club is seeking a permanent license to sell booze and to host events. Some of the neighbors are voicing their opposition saying that these parties to get too loud. Santa cruz, and keeping it down would be fine as far as im concerned. The open house event is a chance for the neighbors to ask questions about the operation, and the barbecue will start at 3 and going till 7 pm. And going on strike this week, at the city college, and the district did make an offer, but the union says they presented it to the media before bringing it to the bargaining table, and the union is not happy. The city college oneday strike is expected this wednesday and will be the first in the history of the college. And they are asking for Free Education for those attending the city college. And many of our residents depend upon this education. And announcing a ballot measure for a transfer pass on Luxury Properties worth more than 5 million. But the measure must be passed by the board of supervisors, and later approved on the ballot in november. The proposal would generate new revenues to cover the free college benefits. In the next few weeks, the bart unions will be voting on a new contract, and what will the bart riders get out of this, and we have tom, the president of bart. This is a 77 million fiveyear contract. No strikes, but at the same time, bart is facing some big deficits, and how can we pay for this . Is actually 50 million over the four years of the contract, 77 million over 10 years, and it is about 850 million a year for this, but its more than we budgeted for, but well within what we can afford. This instability. We can plan around it, and we were able to get some medical cost savings that we did not budget for the contract. Its a good deal for the workers in a good deal for the bay area. s back the critics say you are giving away the store, and so you can have everything rolling smoothly before the election come november. This is lower than those in the prior contract, and its a status quo contract. If that goes ahead, the next question is are we going to be taking money that would otherwise going to the trains enough keeps in order to pay for this. To some degree, yes. We allocate money from the operating budget to the capitol, at the capitol need is so much bigger than anything we can get, 50 million a difference over the next for years, or 77 million over 10 years. In the cap on the contract is 5 billion, and no savings with you get from the labor contracts that would cover the entire cost. In my the voter, and im looking at bart, and im not crazy about this, why should i vote for this bond . If we can add the capacity to bart, it will be good for the entire region and it will be good for the regions economy and for those that drive. Bart takes a lot of cars off of the road. And we have four and 50,000 troops on average, meaning there are four and 50,000 cars that are not on the road. 450,000 people, or to 50,000 troops, a lot of sardines in those cans. Back to you. Especially along the coastline, very high wind. Here is a look at the satellite perspective, and this is what is causing that change, we have that upperlevel trough dropping in, and the winds increasing through the afternoon and temperatures decreasing as these cooler air mass moves in. Based on where you are, what the subject matter is in the audience. Leaving, you just lay it out appropriately. And you do not apologize for it. The people that are backing him are giving him more birth and his appearances than other candidates. It seems to be that way, and even looking at the supporters, and you ask him if you think you are really going to be able to deport 11 million people, and they say not really, but they support him anyway. He is doing this for you, and you know that, and you believe that when he has the choice of being able to exercise it, he will do what you would probably do, its just that he does not know what it is.
