Reusable shopping bags are obviously good for the environment, but could they be bad for your diet . Never thought of that. Julie watts on some researchers at harvard found out. Reporter Reusable Bags are a common sight in the bay area, but a new study found the type of bag you use may also dictate what you put in it. On the trip where people brought their bags, they seemed more likely to buy organic. Reporter and while that may seem obvious, you might be surprised by what else they put in those Reusable Bags. They were also more likely to put in indulgence in their basket. We define indulgence as cookies and ice cream and potato chips. Reporter umu at Harvard Business school study the habits of shoppers when they come armed with their own bags compared to when they didnt. She says the outcome is basically the licensing effect. When you do something good in one domain, you potentially unconsciously are more likely to indulge in another one. Reporter but she points out usually a reward is directly linked to an action, like eating dessert because you exercise. In this case the link seems a bit more abstract. One possible conclusion . People feel extra virtuous about saving the planet. You do something good for society in the morning, you might be a little bit more likely to have an extra doughnut in the afternoon. Reporter julie watts, kpix5. How about this . How would you like to cap your gas price at 2. 75 . Sounds good to me. A Company Called mylovegasprice. Com is promising just that. So think of it as gas insurance and youre basically betting on gas futures so you pay 3. 99 for every 20 gallons of gas. If National Average goes up to above 2. 75, you get paid. If you bought this insurance, you could get up to 40 cents per gallon this summer as gas prices go up. Taking a live look at a friend that we are about to meet after this commercial break. It is a huge weekend for adoptable pets all around the bay area. Were going to talk about welcome back. Heres a live shot of the bay bridge this morning where we have got a cloudy start, but the sun will peek out later on today, so dont worry. If youre heading to festivals like this one, the walnut creek art and wine festival, its looking like a perfect temperature, 77 degrees. Thats going on all this weekend at heather farm park. Expect it to be sunny and warm. Meet my new friend rex here in our studio this morning. He is an adorable 2yearold mutt mix, and bringing him in today is rich with maddies fund. Thanks for coming in today. Great to be here. Tell us about rex. Rex, as you said, is 2 years old, hes been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated. Hes gone through a health check. Hes a fen nominally well behaved. Hes very got this soft curly coat. We think he has a little bit of poodle in him. Hed make someone a fantastic companion. Hes a lot of fun to be with. Hes unbelievably adorable and would give somebody a great amount of love if they would just adopt him. We have not heard a peep out of him today, so he is extremely well behaved. Sounds like a good apartment dog. Hes well behaved on a leash. When he comes to the door, he sits down. Hes had a lot of attention given to him, giving him proper instructions on how to be a good companion animal. Hes at San Francisco animal care and control today. And if you adopt him today, its absolutely free. It is maddis adoptathon, the best event of the year. Were excited about it. Lots of shelters participating. We have 90 shelters, 100 different locations, adoptmaddisfund. Org has a lot of the animals that will be on display. We have that on our website, cbssf. Com. You can find out all the information on maddies fund. But you go there and take a look for free displvment for free. We give the organizations adopting the animals some money, up to 2,500. So were going to be giving away 4 million over this weekend to these various organizations, so it helps them to do their daily work. Its not just a weekend for the animal shelters and rescue groups. They do this 365 days out of the year. So this is a little bit of a stipend for them to help them with their great work, saves an animals life, gives you an awful lot of love. It actually improves the quality of life for us human beings. I would totally agree with that. I have to say one cool thing about maddies fund, a sliding scale on how much of a donation the shelter gets depending on how adoptable the animal is. Some animals that have gone through so much in the shelters, done so much to give them a better life, theyre getting a huge boost of cash. Yes, they do, they get about 2,500. If they are elderly, not injured or ill and have been rehabilitated by the organization, as you say, they do such fantastic work. And this is a chance to celebrate that work that they do, but also to empty the shelters so that all these guys find a loving home. Its awesome. Again, find out more, cbss im so distracted by rex this morning. Tomorrow on kpix5 this morning, we have a lot in store.
