happened is the high pressure has kept us warm all week, it finally begins to nudge to the south and to the east and low pressure is on the way from the gulf of alaska as that low pressure sinks down, the pressure is full, the temperature is full and the rarelary builds up. so -- and the marine layer builds up. on the futurecast this is how we're starting out, the low clouds and fog by the around the bay recover to near 80 degrees. so we'll cool it off in the early going and warm it up in the latter half. and that's just summertime in the bay area. there's your weather. now let's get the latest. here's ann. >> thanks, brian. to be successful in the workplace these days means having an edge. here to talk about strategy certain women can use, is rose casstillo. thanks for being here this morning. >> thanks for having me. >> you are talking about the challenges for latino women in the workplace. tell us what the state of affairs is. >> really, there's two areas for latino women that they struggle with and they are barriers that come from cultural background and barriers within the workplace. culturally there's some things that prevent us from being that we could, that kind of have cultural tapes if you will. the parents that come from old countries, mostly immigrants don't want a lot of the women to get educated, and even working is difficult in the sense that they feel, well, they're going to get married and have children anyway, so how much do you put into a career. >> so a lot of people are shot down before -- >> before they even start, yeah. and latinos have a very high dropout rate in high school. even getting to college is a challenge. the other side is just workplace barriers, a lot of stereotypes about latinos, that latinas aren't committed, that they don't gauge, that they're not committed to a career. >> isn't it easy enough to show, though, when you're in the workplace, to show that that's not you? >> yes. we have some other issues issues culturally that are kind of counter cultural to the corporations, from the cultural standpoint. we tend to not speak up as much, not know how to brag about ourselves and these are things that are very important within the corporate world. you have to know how to sell it, how to talk about what you've done in your projects. there's also things about mentoring that we need to be better about, networking, those kinds of things. dpl you wrote a book on this subject. was there anything when you were writing this book that surprised you? >> i was surprised thad there was one thing -- that there was one thing that all six latinas had in common. i didn't think it would be one thing that would all lead to that and that is they all had one person, one person, whoever it was, the mother, the father, the grandfather, the grandmother who believed in them and instilled in them a pride of their culture, number one, and instilled in them the ability to succeed. >> it is amazing the difference one person can make. it seems like a lot of your advice would be helpful to women in general. you talked about not speaking up, not asking for raises, not knowing how to brag yourself. this is something i've heard across several cultural lines. >> and with latinas it's even more specific in terms of cultural because the anglo culture is more of an i society, with the latinos, it's more of a we society. we tend to be more tribal, if you will. it's about the family, it's about us, it's not just about the individual, so even our expressions are whatever god wants, where in the united states it would be go for it, you can do it, you're an individual. >> things are changing demographically, and you mentioned that by the year 2050 half of all people in the workplace will be latino. >> and that's why it's good news for latinas, it's our time. the united states is becoming a latino nation. it's the fastest growing spanish-speaking country in the world. so everything is pointing out for the need for latinos to get the education, to understand what the rules of engagement are within the workplace and that it can be done despite the challenges. there's great opportunities coming up. >> so with those changing numbers, won't it just naturally balance itself out as far as the challenges? >> there's a lot of myths that exist within the workplace. a study that was done by hispanic economics showed that employers and managers still retain myths about latinas and that they're not leadership material within the organization. so those myths really need to be shattered and so latinas can progress. >> now, you are speaking about this all on monday. >> yes, i am at the commonwealth club of california and we have a panel discussion with some of the most successful latinas in the bay area and perhaps the united states also because one of them was a former -- was in government in the clinton administration, actually, and the first latina, and it's at 6:00 p.m. at the commonwealth offices here in san francisco. >> wonderful. of course we talked about your book as well. rose cass tillo, thanks for being here. can you tell me how to get to prison? the tough issue though. that's usual for the bay area this time of year. >> thanks, brian. in sports you mentioned the a's. they did come up short at home against the mariners last night, in part because of a rookie mistake. in atlanta the giants recorded a lopsided win, fueled by a dominant starting pitching performance. kim coyle with all the highlights. >>reporter: good morning, everyone. it appears the giant's starting pitching may be back on track, posting back-to-back shutouts and reminding everyone why they won two world series titles in three years. not much for braves fans to talk about at turner field. 1st inning, blanco connects for his first homer of the year. 1 had on giants. his first career leadoff homer and that would be plenty of run support for balmgartner. 10 strikeouts for him seven innings, allowing just two hits, giants win 6-0. a's and mariners, raul ibanez gets one, the eventual winning run comes around to score. a's win 3-2. round two of the u.s. open, tiger battling a sore elbow, the par five second nearly rolls in for eagle. tiger would birdie, finish on the day three over and four shots off the lead. as for round one leader phil mickelson, lefty saved his best for last. on 18 he records his first birdie of the day to fwrab the share of the lead with -- grab the share of the lead with billy horshell. that's a look at sports. i'll see you tonight at 5:30. stick around because our next guest is from cnet, she has a website that will help you pocket a little cash this summer. we'll be right back. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, from the sky. the company launched heliu google is experimenting with balloons that beam the internet from the sky. the company launched helium- filled balloons, equipped with flight computers in new zealand. google says the balloons have the potential to proceed internet access down to an area below twice the size of new york city. between school break and vacations, summer months can be pricey. sharon of cnet.com is here with savvy ways to save this summer. thanks for being here, sharon. >> thanks for having me. >> we were just talking during the break, one of the biggest websites on your list, air b and b if you're looking to take a vacation. tell us about this. >> air b and b is one of the most successful companies as part of the new space called the sharing economy where instead of paying big companies or big brands to give you premium services, people like you and i trade or offer cheaper alternatives. >> so basically somebody is coming to stay at your house and vice-versa. >> yes. >> you're going to stay at a private house or a private apartment. >> this creeps me out. >> you wouldn't be the first person to say that. but don't knock it until you try it. >> okay. you've been doing this. >> i've been doing it, and i have to say that from a personal perspective it actually makes me go on vacation more often because it's really that cheap, and you get to live like a local. you've got a kitchen, you can be in a busy neighborhood, you can be right there in the heart of the city and you're not paying as much as the people in the high rise hotels. >> have you had people stay at your place? >> i haven't done it the other way around. and with all these services, you can't just save money, but you can also make money. but unfortunately i don't have an extra spare room or vacation home to rent out. >> i don't know. yeah, even creepier than staying at somebody's house to me is having somebody to stay at my house. >> lock up all your stuff. next one dogvacay.com. i'm a dog owner and whenever i go on vacation, it's really stressful to find a place for my pup to stay. doggy hotels usually charge somewhere between $70 and $100 a night, but on dogvacay, you can find local pet centers that charge as little as $15 a day and you can use their tools to find the right match for you. so you can basically go on vacation, you'd stay in a hotel and you'd give your dog to somebody else to sit? >> exactly. >> okay. that makes sense. tell us about passgrabit.com. >> it's summertime, may you need your pool cleaned, maybe you need somebody to clean up after a barbecue or mow your lawn, go to this website and post that job description, then the professionals on task rabbit, which, again, are people like you and i -- maybe not you and i, but people who do have full-time jobs and sometimes some spare time will bid on these tasks and then you choose the bidder that you want to actually complete the job. >> actually another bit of risk there, though. >> it can be, but one thing to mention about all of these sites that these people -- most of these sites is these people are vetted. there are reviews on b and b, dog vacay or on task rabbit so you have recommendations from other people who have used them. that makes me feel a little bit better. yeah, sleep well at night. >> how about poshmark.com. >> so if you have used clothes or maybe clothes that you've never worn, of course the first thing you always want to consider is donating them. right. but the next best thing, especially if you have brand name clothes is to go to poshmark.com and sell them there because on poshmark, you can get a really great buyback price. sometimes it's up to 50% or 70% whereas if you 2 to a local buy and sell used clothing store, they usually give you a few bucks for an item. so poshmark is really a great place to get good value for your used clothes. >> you have to send things in then? >> you do. that's the tradeoff. basically you go on the site, you take a photo of yourself in the clothing -- >> you have to model. >> you have to do a little modeling. you can do it from the neck down if you want. and then you do have to send it out. but they do pay for shipping. >> finally neighborgoods.net. >> yeah. so we're probably going to be doing a lot of d.i.y. summer projects around the home. >> yeah. >> don't get me started. so that means lots of trips to home depot. but instead of buying tools and equipment that you're only going to use once or twice for these projects, go to neighborgoods.net and you can borrow these tools and equipment from neighbors or people in your local area. when you're done, you send them back and you just saved a ton of money. is there a cost involveed in that, though? no, not at all. it's true sharing. >> i like it. a lot of good tips. sharon, thanks for all that. we'll be right back. ,,,,,,,, stories: the feds have busted a compx prostitution ring in san mao and here's a look at this morning's top stories, the feds have busted a
