If we change the tilt of our doppler radar, you can see some of that lighter rain wouldnt necessarily pick up on our regular radar but we have just a little bit of drizzle. So were not talking widespread rain but you have to turn on the windshield wipers as you leave the house today even if its just a little bit of drizzle. You still can find problems on the roads with slick roads because of course we have a lot of oil thats built up on the roads. So the wind will increase as the front passes today. Right now we are looking at plenty breezy to windy conditions in San Francisco. The front is about to pass when you see the wind direction change. Farther south Half Moon Bay we are seeing 60mileperhour winds and in the south bay 13 mileperhour winds out of the southeast. The farther north you go, the gustier those winds will get in napa, 21 Miles Per Hour for now. 18 in fairfield hand lighter in novato and san rafael. It should open around 5 a. M. Roadwork northbound 880 in oakland between 7th street and 80 east connector reduced to one lane. That will open around 5 a. M. Nimitz freeway between san leandro, 238 and the maze, about 16 minutes. Looking good in both directions. Bay bridge toll plaza, if you are heading into downtown San Francisco, now is a good time because those toll lights are off until 5 30. Carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound will just take you about 20 minutes. To the san mateo bridge, if you are heading into the peninsula here, 880 to 101, should just take a quick 15 minutes. So looking good now, as well. And the Golden Gate Bridge looking beautiful already, 580 to golden gate toll plaza will only take you again 15 minutes. So all clear now but well keep you posted on the rain when it comes. Ill send it to you. All right, roqui. Thank you. With the seasons first significant storm in the bay area, utility workers are doing what they can to minimize power outages. In mill valley yesterday pg e crews cutting down tree limbs that were growing too close to the power lines. The utility says it does outage prevention work like this year round. But it turns it up a notch when a storm is about to hit. And city officials are asking everyone to do their part in keeping storm drains clear as the rain moves in. City public works crews maintaining about 25,000 storm drains across San Francisco. They are asking residents to put leaves and debris in green compost bins rather than sweeping it into the street. The Manzanita Park and ride lot in mill valley is closed today. The area has a tendency to flood when theres a lot of rain. Officials say high tides are also expected which could make things work. The lot will be closed through all of next week. The coast guard is urging people to watch out for high surf and rip currents at the coast through the weekend. Now that winter is kind of coming along, it can get pretty heavy and dangerous out there, so, uhm, i mean, people should avoid the water if they dont know what they are doing. In the summer its safer. Forecasters say that swells could reach 16 feet today and even higher by sunday. Coast guard says that all boaters and beachgoers should be careful or just stay away from the water. Also, dog owners should keep their pets out of the big waves. The same storm system is also battering the pacific northwest. A recordbreaking amount of rain fell in portland and 100 mileperhour winds hit parts of the oregon coast. Several roads and highways are closed in the region today. Thousands of people lost power last night when the wind knocked down trees and power lines. New details about an alleged Sexual Assault at san jose state university. The victim says she tried texting for help as a water polo player attacked her. Heres kpix 5s betty yu reporter the alleged Sexual Assaults happened at a party over labor day weekend. One of the two victims told the mercury news that she was trapped inside a pitch black bedroom thrown down and attacked. She texted for help before she eventually was able to escape. The victim told the mercury news that she met the freshman water polo player that night for the first time. And he lured her inside the house. He kept forcing me to do stuff over and over again. I kept telling him, i have no idea who you are. Im not going to do this to you. Students on campus only learned of the case this week. I felt like it should have been something that they should have informed us about when it happened in the moment, not almost a month after it happened. They should have let us know when it happened. It would have happened to another person. For them to punish him in that type of way, thats what people are scared to like come out and Say Something because then the guys gets no punishment. The school sent out its first message to students stating that the International Student was placed on temporary suspension barred from campus and ordered to stay away from victims. Thats not good enough for some student who say now they are extra alert. Now its kind of, like, it could be anybody. For nevada and the legislature to get involved at this level, to be able to use public funds in this fashion, i think that they are very shortsighted. Animal experts have euthanized four coyotes after a 6yearold boy was bit then orange county. The attack happened sunday evening at an irvine park. The California Department of fish wildlife said it bit the boy sunday night and tried to drag him off. The boys father and other bystanders scared it off. Fish wildlife says the coyotes captured in the area were killed in the interests of public safety. Anytime there is an animal that attacks a child, our department makes an effort to take that animal out of the population if possible. The boy attacked in irvine had minor injuries. Time now 4744. But the north bay Sonoma County napa county, you are seeing showers right now and here they are. So right now we will continue to track this rain light to moderate. I had it over the loop for the last three hours so you can see how this front this is actually just ahead of the front is slowly moving south. We are getting light to moderate rainfall. Well zoom in closer. This is where some of the rain is falling right now. We pause at current time. So rohnert park moderate rainfall right now. Santa rosa with moderate rainfall. A little heavier up north near Hidden Valley lake, healdsburg with sprinkles needing windshield wipers out the door this morning, monte rio same as in bodega bay. As we pull out, though, youll see not significant returns just yet for San Francisco, areas farther south. They will be coming as we make our way over the next few hours. Right now, outside, temperatures are mild. We are in the 60s. Mid60s pretty much area wide. 66 in concord, 65 in oakland. 65 in livermore, 63 in san jose. San jose at 61. 62 in santa rosa. So a light jacket out the door. The farther north you are, though, the more wind you will see at this hour and winds are picking up even in the bay area. The storm will head up to british columbia. The front continues to move south and that is front moves south, thats when we see the winds pick up. So what youre looking at here is the jet stream. This is actually what moves those storms along which brings it into our region and provides lift with a strong jet stream over the top of us. Helps lift those storms and juicier more rain better rainfall totals but what really is controlling the wind for us today is going to be the front as it makes its way south. You can see it here. This is just ahead of the front. That first band of rain of heavier or id say moderate rain at this point. So watch the winds right now, here we are at 4 a. M. You can see the higher winds are still to our north. Santa rosa at 17mileperhour wind gusts, 15 in san rafael. 15 in napa. As we advance on as that front moves through this morning, during the commute, we start to see the higher winds pick up right around San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, concord, livermore, seeing higher winds and then later on this afternoon the front continues to push south. We see higher wind speeds farther south so san jose, livermore staying windy into the late morning early afternoon hours before our winds die down they will pick up again when we see the second front move through on saturday. Futurecast timing out the rain and you can see it moves with those wind speeds so here we are right now. We can see the rain around 6 00 this morning over the north bay right around santa rosa. The front continues to sink south seeing heavier rainfall around San Francisco. Farther south still, around 3 00, south bay you will be seeing light rainfall right around when the kids get out of school and we dissipate and remain unsettled through the weekend, another front through saturday and unsettled until likely monday of next week.
