For the friday morning commute and i do think we will start to see a good soaking so you might want to plan now, either take friday off or give yourself extra time as you are heading in on friday. In the meantime, though, temperatures are cooler today, and we cooled down yesterday. We are cooling down more today. Much cooler than what we saw this weekend. From a distance it could be a raiders tailgate party. On the steps of the nevada state capital. Supporters of a plan to bring the raiders to las vegas cheered the idea. It is good for the local economy. It will create more development. Opponents blasted it. I think it is a bad idea. Studies have come out time and time again, to show that the revenue is not recouped in this type of investment. The battle over bringing the raiders to sin city is playing out in the legislative chamber, over the next few days. The plan, to build a 1. 9 billion stadium for the raiders in las vegas. To pay for the stadium, they would hike hotel taxes on tourists 1. 50 a night. Sheldon aideleton would have 650 million. But that is not enough. We are looking at a billionaire coming in and looking at a taxpayer handout when our state is in desperate need of improving our education system. Senator ruben keywin wrote a scathing op ed calling the plan a terrible deal and challenging lawmakers on the floor. What if the raiders leave before the contract is over and the people in nev dark not the tourists nevada, not the tourists, but the people of nevada will be left with the bill. And i do believe a professional Football Team in our city would be a great boon for the economy. A great boon for the community as a whole. John lupo with the group stay in oakland came here to pass out flyers to lawmakers urging them to vote no on a new stadium. He worries oakland fans dont realize just hour dire the situation is. I think there is so much of the fan base, the california fan base doesnt believe it is going to occur and it is not a threat. And i think it is very much a threat. Two thirds approval is needed from both the nevada state houses for the bill to move forward. And a vote is expected this week. Oakland mayor libby shaft says she is still hoping to keep the raiders in the city. But she will not try to match any bid from nevada that involves public money. It is not appropriate for oakland or almeda county to come up with 750 million in public funds. We are not repeating mistakes of the past. We are offering to finance the infrastructure. That could be upwards of 200 million. City Council Members agree with shaft, that no taxpayer money should go toward a stadium. Instead, they hope to get private investment and government grants. Steve ger ig and Joseph Tanner were out surfing on the waters of indian beach waiting for the next move and suddenly, he lurched suddenly and it looked like he flipped off his board but a little more violently than somebody slips off their board. Did he slip . Tanner was attacked by a shark, bit by the upper thigh and he lower leg. He and garrett managed to make it back to shore when a handful of other surfers came rushing to help. Joe stayed conscious the whole time and able to answer questions and blood type and a phone number. And joseph is a nurse and knew exactly what to do. He was directing him to telling him how to fix him. And they were putting a tourniquet on him, with i think the leash. Garrett and the others helped as long as they could until paramedics took over. It was the fastaking kindness from strangers that may have helping save josephs life. I think the fact that everyone on the beach came and helped him. Definitely. You know, it could have turned out a lot worse. Locals have since put up a makeshift sign warning potential night and Early Morning surfers. The shark attacks are rare along the the oregon coast. All right. Julie has the giant thorns on this morning. A big debate in the house. My husband is a cubbies game and my daughter is calling it the cubbies game. So i am trying to convince her. We are a giants family, darn it. Yes. So great news, in the weather department. We are looking at a good chance of a soaking rain. Especially where it matters up north where our reservoirs are up in the sierra with the snow pack and even down here in the bay area, by the end of the week, but first lets talk about today, shall we . Outside right now, we are not seeing the dense fog at this hour yesterday morning. Still seeing the cloud cover and temperatures relatively mild because of it. Oakland 57. And san jose at 59 at this hour and 52 in santa rosa. And here is what is happening. We had this ridge of High Pressure over the top of us, keeping us warm and dry. It is now pushed off to the east and sunk south. We are kind of in between. And we have a series of areas of low pressure, dominating the forecast, and the one we are watching right now, over the Aleutian Islands and pick up and head our way by the end of the week. The key here though is the jet stream. Take a look at future cast. Notice the red. This indicates the strongest winds in the upper level. The jet stream. That is what provides a lift that we saw all of the rain. And normally it is swell to the north. The Pacific North west gets all of the rain. This time around, the future cast showing it is sinking south by friday. That combined with the area of low pressure, it is going to bring some substantial rain, and we sure could use it. Especially where it counts. Take a look at the future cast models at this point. And they are getting more impressive, the closer we get to the system. So up north, where all of our reservoirs are, three to five inches of rain possible. Over the sierra, over three inches possible. Great news for both of those areas in terms of our rain totals. When it comes to the the drought. Now, back here in the bay area, we are looking at over an inch possible, for many bay area location, the farther north you rrk the better chance of seeing substantial rain. Well, we will be keeping a closer eye on this throughout the week number the meantime today, the weather headlines much cooler temperature, gone are the 80s and 90s, we saw this week, and topping out in the low 70s. For the warmest spots inland. Amend 60s by the bay and along the coast today, near 70 for mountain view, san jose, and near 70 for santa rosa and napa, and san rafael, today, at 69. And overall, we are going to see cooler temperatures. Rain later this week. And sunrise today. 7 15. And sunset 6 37. The extended forecast shows temperatures continue to cool. With increasing cloud cover, wednesday and thursday. And thursday night, into friday, those shower chances begin, a break on saturday and more rain on the way possible on sunday. Thank you, julie. Time now is 4 50. A look at the bay area roads. Not too much going on just yet. But we do have some slowmoving traffic along the altamont pass. Coming off of 205 here, just about 20 miles an hour. So pretty slow continues all the way through northland road. There 205 to the altamont pass, it will take you a very slow 12 minutes. Then of course, you can breathe through livermore. And then youve got slow moving traffic on the dublin interchange. In the commute direction. Altamont pass, 680, it will stake you 15 minutes. Lets move on to the the road work you have been mentioning all morning in the Hayward Fremont area. This is on 880 in both directions. Between whipple and mission. Two lanes are currently closed. But that is opening up in about 10 minutes or so. Moving over to the bay bridge toll plaza, weve got some pass lane backup but otherwise smooth sailing through the toll into downtown San Francisco. And carquinez bridge, along the east shore freeway, to the maze, it will take you a quick 20 minutes. Back to you. A bald eagle got caught in the powerful winds of Hurricane Matthew in florida.
