San leandro officers were in oakland yesterday on a different case when they saw a gray sedan that had been reported stolen. As they tried to make a traffic stop, the woman rammed an officers unmarked pickup truck and he opened fire. Students at a nearby high school were told to stay inside. It can be a very big distraction. But we handle it with grace. Make sure we dont overreact. The woman will survive. The her passenger was arrested. No officers were hurt. Contra costa Water District customers will face big fines for not conserving water. The Water District board voted last night saying customers have to limit Outdoor Watering to twice a week. Those who dont follow the rules can be fined as much as 500 and have their water shut off. The Water District is trying to get customers to cut back by 25 . They also voted to raise rates. Starting in june, customers who use more than 350 gallons a day will pay more. A 3. 1 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of los angeles last night. This is the ad saying that pope francis should replace archbishop salvatore cordileone. More than 100 bay area residents signed a petition sent to the vatican accusing the archbishop of fostering an atmosphere of intolerance. They point to the morality clauses in teacher contracts in four catholic high schools in San Francisco and marin county. A homeless man is under arrest for attacking a child on a San Francisco street. The 31yearold is facing charges of aggravated assault, child abuse and false imprisonment. The attack happened yesterday morning in the marina at union and octavia. Police say the homeless man randomly went after a 5year old girl. As it turns out the girl was walking with her mother when this man came up to the child unprovoked, grabbed her by the neck, lifted her off the ground and placed her against the side of a building. Several people saw what happened and called police. The girl was hurt on her neck and received a bad scratch. But police say she will be okay. Hundreds of people opposed to a bill on vaccinations turned out at the state capital. The bill requires parents to get their kids vaccinated. Theres no exemptions for personal beliefs. Yesterday the bills author defended it. Vaccinations have prevented more than 21 million hospitalizations and 732,000 deaths among children born in the last 20 years. It is a denial of due process and a violation of the right to free exercise of religion. The Senate Education committee will vote on it next wednesday. This one is at the base of the offramp, the car hit some of those sand barrels so this one shouldnt go affecting the main lines of the freeway. It doesnt appear to be right now. It looks clear between concord, Pleasant Hill and walnut creek. If you are traveling highway 4 we havent seen any bottlenecks yet. The keyword is yet. This is one of the first spots to slow down between hillcrest and a street but now it looks good. The bay bridge, they cleared the overnight roadwork eastbound, as well. It was scheduled until 6 00 but thats gone past Treasure Island. And 880 they should have just cleared the overnight roadwork as well. They had various lanes blocked between 29th and 23rd heading into downtown away from oakland airport. So that was scheduled to wrap up later but they also picked that up early so now the drive time is clear at 15 minutes between 238 and the maze. Or you can always ride mass transit.
