An suv hit the girl and her mother in a crosswalk near the stonestown galleria shortly after noon yesterday. The mother was also injured but not seriously. Police say the 86yearold driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating. A rescue off the marin county coast a coast guard helicopter was called in to search for two kayakers in trouble yesterday afternoon. They slammed into rocks close to dillon beach. A rescue boat searched the water. One of the kayakers drowned. He has now been identified as 55yearold nicholas anos it. A professor at santa rosa junior college. A second man who swam to safety said they were wearing life jackets but one jacket fell off the body of the man who died. New this morning, a big fire at an Apartment Building in napa started around 11 30 last night in a building on brown street near g street. Despite the large flames here the Napa Fire Department described the damage to the building as moderate. Today Governor Brown will ask the legislature for another billion dollars to help deal with the drought. The money goes to water supply projects as well as farm workers who have lost their jobs. The catholic archdiocese of San Francisco now apologizing this morning for drenching Homeless People that were trying to sleep outside st. Marys cathedral. We first showed it to you yesterday morning. Overhead sprinklers would regularly dump water into the church alcoves there supposedly to keep the area clean from garbage and human feces. Now the archdiocese says the system was illconceived and the city said it was illegal. Someone told me one of the janitors says it takes more water to clean up afterwards than what water they were using from the sprinklers. Im not trying to mitigate it because were apologizing and getting rid of it. The Catholic Church has many programs to help San Franciscos large homeless population. It got heating during a university of california regents meeting so some students took off their clothes. Protestors stood on chairs and stripped not quite naked but enough to show quite a bit. They are demanding an end to tuition increases. And the uc president Janet Napolitano was not amused to say the least. Initially there appeared to be some confusion over exactly what to do. So i can understand why there would be a disconnect there. Napolitano is calling for tuition hikes of 5 every year for five years unless the uc system gets more money from the state. Along the peninsula by sfo trying to catch a flying watch out for overnight roadwork in lanes for a little while longer. Its reported in both directions of one between millbrae and actually broadway heading into burlingame. So yeah, again not seeing much of a delay on the sensors. Its early. Ubers advertising claims include slogans such as the safest ride on the road. But in a lawsuit filed yesterday, the Cab Companies say thats false advertising and its taking business away from them. The Cab Companies say their Safety Standards are far superior and uber called the lawsuit frivolous. The giants are hoping a new popup development generates a lot of business near at t park. The giants are eager to create mission rock a huge housing and Retail Development on whats now their main parking lot. Were not going anywhere. This ballpark we have a 66year lease on the ballpark, so we want to make sure that the environment around the front of the ballpark and the back of the ballpark is is is warm and inviting. Reporter more importantly, it would allow the teams owners to profit from the economic boom their ballpark has created for this entire area. The plans for the development are still in concept stage, but this tiny popup village may help them firm up the vision. So this will be a Good Opportunity to see who gets drawn down to this area, what people like, and they can incorporate that hopefully in their plans as they move forward. The 2008 ordinance didnt allow new standalone fastfood restaurants to be built to keep people from gaining weight but researchers found it didnt work because obesity rates continue to rise. A san jose woman is in some trouble with the law for having an illegal taxidermy collection. She collects the stuffed animals in her onebedroom apartment. Quite an arate.
