But it will be persistently wet with a chance each day between now and wednesday. So rain returning to the bay area this weekend. You can see the nature of this activity calls for just scattered showers from time to time. This rolls it ahead until sunday at 5 00 and theres still a chance of showers in the bay area. In terms of accumulations, more than 3 in the north bay. The east bay about 1. 5. Up to 1. 5 on the peninsula and Santa Cruz Mountains as much as the mountains in the north bay. Reporter according to Research Findings published in the National Academy of sciences magazine, the main culprit may be a special marine virus that affects only starfish. Causes their arms to fall off and they eventually melt. Its kind of a horrifying death. Reporter reduced to rotting mush. Scientists say just learning this much about the problem is a big stem. Identifying this virus has been very difficult. Yes, its been described as a needle in a haystack because Scientists Say in one drop of sea water, there can be 10 million viruses. And wasting disease may have been around a lot longer than first believed. Lots of Unanswered Questions some samples from nearly 100 years ago show the virus. But it wasnt deadly then. Today, it is found in see anemones and urchins but has no effect on them. All of these things that are sort of icons of the ocean, you go to the tide pools and they see all these critters and they are all there together. Better news for the 580 commute. We had been reporting on a threecar accident that had been blocking lanes. 580 eastbound at airway in livermore. At one point chp had issued a traffic advisory all lanes are open. Traffic is now moving through the area. But, of course, the fog continues to be a real issue for so many drivers out there. Westbound 880 right here no traffic delays at the bay bridge toll plaza but there are dense fog advisories issued for most of our bay area bridges. So take it easy out there. Dangerous situation on the roads. The chp motorcycle officer in the hospital as we said after he was struck by a car in sunnyvale. It happened about 9 30 last night on the lawrence expressway at the 101 interchange k the chp says the officer was making a left turn on to lawrence when another driver ran a red light. Investigators have been questioning the driver. He is very cooperative and it did not appear that alcohol was related. Was he injured . No. The officers officers are considered injuries are not lifethreatening. Police are trying to identify three men who kidnapped and robbed a couple at a Lookout Point in the berkeley hills. It happened on grizzly peak boulevard above the cal campus about 2 00 yesterday morning. The couple told police this were just sitting in a car when three men came up and demanded money. They were armed with guns and a baseball bat. The couple didnt have any cash so one gunman got into the couples car and forced them to drive to an atm. Once they handed over some money, the suspects took off. Happening today a nationwide push to skip black friday shopping as a way to protest. Were live here at the bay street mall in emeryville where a demonstration is set to begin in an about hour. This is a brandnew tactic to vent frustration and anger over the ferguson decision by blending it with all the attention that comes with black friday. This new movement is being dubbed blackout black friday. It got started in a walmart in a suburb of st. Louis where protestors went in chanting hands up, dont shoot before being ordered to leave by police. Then moving on to other stores like target. Similar demonstrations are being planned for today. Leading the local blackout black friday movement here in the east bay, the filmmakers of fruitvale station. Organizers say the point is to show economic power and to get shoppers to stop and think for a moment about the lives that having lost and power that they have to make changes to the system. And over at the san mateo bridge now the fog doesnt seem to be affecting visibility on this end. But were hearing from cell callers it is down to 0 for patches of highway 92 as you approach 101 in san mateo. Now, the 580 680 interchange, as you leave the altamont pass, is still doing okay. Right here the 880 237 interchange is moving well with no big traffic delays for southbound 880 leaving mission boulevard approaching Dixon Landing road in milpitas. Now, the mass transit situation. It will begin in earnest overnight and spread south over the rest of the bay area tomorrow and once we get its kind of like a garden hose. Sometimes you can just sweep it across the lawn and everybody gets a little shower, thats it. But in this case the hose is kind of directed over a certain part of california and it just stays in that part. Thats whats going to happen in the next five days. We have intermittent chances of rain. The jet stream the great track along which all these storms ride stays over one place so thats going to bring in surge after surge of moisture.
