Neighbors say the woman was suffering from advanced dementia and her husband was also very ill. They have been together for 37 years. Liccardo is a supporter of outgoing mayor chuck reeds pension reform and the cuts to pay and benefits have driven hundreds of officers to other cities and forcing the remaining officers in san jose to work overtime. Officers like franco vado say they are tired of the years of low pay and long workweeks. I cant do this. Its too much on the family and on me. We are going to get to work to ensure that we can accelerate the hiring in this department, get more officers on the streets and while were doing that, were going to use innovative approaches to make san jose safer. New details about the rescue of a woman abducted in philadelphia. 22yearold Carlesha Freeland Gaither and the suspect were found in a parking lot near baltimore last night. Its a story youll see only right here on channel 5. Reporter if you think of Contra Costa County as a peaceful beautiful suburbia, maybe these recent headlines would surprise you. A dad finds a bag of meth while going through his 8yearold daughters halloween candy. Or this huge meth bust connected to a mexican drug cartel. Over 500 pounds of methamphetamine seized a record level amounts seized in this county. Reporter this bust dubbed operation road trip pulled 18 million worth of drugs off the streets. Investigators say the county acted as a hub, a pit stop, for dealers before trafficking elsewhere. That doesnt surprise judith cohen at all. There is a methamphetamine problem in Contra Costa County. Reporter she says the drug is in high demand in the suburban and rural areas of the county. And she points out Contra Costa Countys network of freeways fits into the drug traffickers m. O. Thats their preferred way of operating to keep a low profile and stay with routes that do not have a large police presence. Reporter she says most drugs on the route are headed out of state most likely the Pacific Northwest and canada. But for what stays here, she has seen the pain it brings. Miserable jobs if they had any. The women had extensive histories of abuse. Methamphetamine makes people violent. Reporter cohen says the drug spreads through family and social circles and that helps keep the problem under the radar, too. In Contra Costa County, im ryan takeo, kpix 5. The task force that made the drug bust worked on the operation road trip for six years. They say the drugs start south of the border from the infamous sinaloa cartel. Oakland police say a driver sideswiped a parked car hit a power pole and then crashed into someones house. It happened on 7th street near fallon street around 4 a. M. And take a look at all the damage. People were inside. No one was hurt. The driver was taken to the hospital. Officers say he has significant injuries. Imagine being in that house at that hour . Hello well segue into traffic. The past couple of days we have had some brutal commutes at the bay bridge. Now it if you have been trying to get into San Francisco from the east bay. They have been turning on the metering lights early and then we had several different fender benders both days and some stalls. This morning its the complete opposite. Its been quiet so far and it looks like they have not even activated the metering lights yet. At 5 46 this is now later so if you have a fastrak pass its still clear from the oakland area into San Francisco. The outer cash lanes are beginning to build back to the overcrossing and likely switching on the metering lights any minute. Heres a live look at the nimitz freeway. 880 in oakland no delay they cleared the overnight roadwork in fremont and in san leandro. So now theres no longer any delay. Highway 4 bogging down. You can see it from 160 all the way past a street. Speeds down to about 13 miles per hour. And then it clears up a little bit and dogs down close bogs down closer to concord. Its really just in antioch for the most part now. Sharks play at s. A. P. Center at 7 30 so watch out for that for the evening commute. They cleared the accident at trimble northbound 101 and now theres a new one near mckee. With the forecast, heres lawrence. Should be very nice ahead. Well see temperatures coming down a few degrees. The wind has switched direction getting more of a sea breeze kicking in. We have more clouds outside to start the day. Out the door a cold front sliding into the state. We are not going to get any rain, just showers at eureka with passing clouds throughout the day. Sea breeze will bring fog at the coastline. So temperatures going to be coming down a little bit. Still plenty of sunshine and a few high clouds. And then more sunshine it looks like warmer weather expected for the weekend. So abovenormal temperatures yesterday. We had some mid to upper 70s evening along the coastline. Not going to see that today. We are going to see more clouds and patchy fog especially at the beaches. Temperatures today still some 70s and some 80s into the central valley. Into the monterey bay about 68 degrees and chance of rain toward eureka. Still computer models picking up on passing clouds and some of that patchy fog gathering along the coastline. Thats going to cool down the temperatures there, of course. I think we are going to see more of that maybe even into the bay by tomorrow morning. So the next couple of days, these temperatures will be coming down a few degrees. But still, running above average for this time of year. 75 in san jose. About 68 degrees in pacifica. East bay numbers up in the mid to upper 70s. And then inside the bay, the temperatures 73 degrees in oakland, 68 in San Francisco. And about 66 in daly city. Your sunrise time 6 40. Sunset 5 06 this evening. And as we look toward the next couple of days, keeping the temperatures down just a few degrees. We may see an offshore wind kickback in on saturday and sunday. If that happens, those temperatures in the upper 60s maybe some 70s at the coastline and then we cool back down toward normal but no rain in sight for the next five to seven days. No rain in sight.
