And heres a live look at the dublin interchange westbound 580 and you can see just a few more cars on the road now. But westbound 580 that drive time is clear. There was some overnight roadwork both directions westbound and eastbound 580 through the livermore valley. I had also mentioned north of the Golden Gate Bridge northbound and southbound 101. They had various lanes blocked overnight. That is scheduled until 5 a. M. Team and several officers, chp helicopters searching for a man wanted for a violent crime. Interstate 880 in fremont shut down around 8 00 after the suspect believed to be hiding in the bushes along the freeway there. Before that people saw a man acting paranoid at a nearby starbucks. I asked him normal questions, i rung up his purchase. Between every question he backed up away from me. Then when i gave him the change, he backed up nervous looking out the window. He comes up to me, the hand that he grabbed the change with is bleeding. The search for the gunman was called off about two hours later, described as a black man in his 20s around 58, about 155 pounds last seen in a black tshirt, bluejeans, black shoes. Were learning more about the 12yearold boy shot yesterday in bay point. He is in seriously Critical Condition in an Oakland Hospital right now. Officers say it happened wednesday when he was playing outside on weldon street. Neighbors say it may have been a driveby. They heard nine or ten gunshots. When they came outside, the boy was face down with a bullet wound in the back. He had a collapsed lung and internal bleeding. And they were performing surgery. He did wake up and told his dad [ indiscernible ] authorities are looking for suspects in the shooting. No arrests yet. Buses running today in the golden gate transit district. Drivers are not striking after all. Today would have been the third in a series of one day strikes by rotating groups of district workers. The strike was averted yesterday when the union and district negotiators reached a tentative contract agreement. Neither side disclosed details. The deal needs to be approved by the director and 450 union members. 25 years ago today the loma prieta earthquake rocked the bay area. The 6. 9 quake struck during rush hour at 5 04 p. M. Longtime residents remember today as the day the ace and giants world series stopped a chunk of the bay bridge fell and homes burned to the ground. 63 people were killed, most of them died in the collapse of the cypress freeway in oakland. The 89 quake is the most destructive Natural Disaster in the bay area since the great quake of 1906. And the epicenter was located near loma prieta peak in the santa cruz mountains. Just nine miles away downtown santa cruz did not stand a chance. The city suffered extensive damage especially to the historic cooper house there. 31 buildings collapsed or had to be demolished. In the follow years many of those buildings all had to be rebuilt. When you build a new building, youre no longer able to bring in the mom and pops who originally were in downtown. They cant afford it because you have to recoup the money from building a new structure. An Anniversary Commemoration at 10 a. M. This morning at Memorial Plaza today in downtown santa cruz. 25 years later the memories from that october 17th still very vivid in peoples minds. One woman saw the devastation in San Franciscos Marina District firsthand. I was looking down at marina. I could see the neighborhood on fire. I could see black smoke coming up. There was no light. There was helicopters. It was like a war zone. It was really very scary. The fight involved a group of people on 3rd and channel streets around 10 00. The group fled after the gunshot fires. One person was taken to the hospital with a broken nose. It happened a block from at t park. Police have not said if its related to the giants game orphans. A small plane was destroyed after crashing near Big Bear Lake in southern california. Searchers found the wreckage near a highway in the San Bernardino mountains. All three survivors were airlifted from the wreckage and flown to a local hospital where they are recovering. The Mountain Resort has an airport, but its unclear whether the plane was taking off or landing. As many as 800 people may have been exposed to ebola. Frontier Airlines Says people on seven different flights could be affected after a nurse with the virus went on two of their planes. Amber vinson is a nurse at the hospital that treated the first person diagnosed with ebola in the united states. She is now currently at a hospital being treated in atlanta. And another nurse infected with ebola is getting treatment in washington, d. C. The president announced his plan to deal with the deadly viruses yesterday. Heres mark albert with that story. Reporter 26yearold nina pham wearing protective gear from head to toe was helped into an ambulance and taken to the National Institutes of health in bethesda to continue treatment for ebola. [ inaudible ] reporter hours earlier, the nurseturnedpatient fought back tears as she thanked the medical staff who treated her at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital. [ inaudible ] reporter pham was diagnosed with ebola after caring for thomas eric duncan, who died of the disease last week. Some nurses at texas health maintain the hospital was not prepared to deal with the virus. I saw a chaotic scene. It wasnt organized. It wasnt safe. No one really in charge. Reporter but in a statement, the hospital defended its procedures yet again saying it followed the frequently changing cdc guidelines and recommendations. Officials at texas health had pham transferred to nih because it was about 75 employees being monitored for ebola symptoms, there were concerns the hospital had become overwhelmed. Lawmakers from both parties are now calling on president obama to impose a ban on travel from west africa, the epicenter of the outbreak. A travel ban is less effective than the measures that we are currently instituting. Reporter in the u. S. , five major airports are now screening passengers arriving from west africa in an effort to stop ebola from spreading here at home. Mark albert for cbs news, washington. Ebola concerns are prompting changes for 911 dispatchers in San Francisco. They have a new series of questions to ask if someone calls to report symptoms like high fever and vomiting. Have you traveled internationally in the last 21 days . Have you been to these three countries in west africa . That being said, the system then takes over, decides what kind of dispatch it will be. If ebola is suspected, word would be spread to police, fire and ambulance drivers both in their on Board Computers and by radio. They will also get more training with special hazmat suits. At stanford hospital nurses went through drills yesterday to make sure they are prepared for any ebola patients. People in bermuda are rushing to prepare for another hurricane just days after a Tropical Storm came through their island. The storm will get progressively worse as the day moves on. Residents spent all day yesterday boarding up houses, stocking up on food there. Schools and buses and the Ferry Service have all been shut down for now. In the Pacific Ocean people are preparing for the effects of hurricane ana in hawaii. Hawaiis governor declared an emergency which allows the state to get more money for protective measures. The storms biggest threats are to the big island and up north on kauai. Hawaii just got hit not too long ago. They have had a busy year. Looks like this will get close. The good news is the track is moving further to the south so not a direct hit on the island. Still, they are likely to see flooding across the big island. Those waves are going to be huge. So here we go. We have the storm system developing right now in th central pacific. Still just a Tropical Storm but a very strong one, sustained winds of 65 Miles Per Hour gusts to 75. Watch the track. It will take it a little further to the south. Plenty of rain moving up possibly strengthening to a category 1 hurricane but looking like it is going to stay south of the island for the most part. So thats some good news if you are traveling in that direction. Okay. We have some changes coming our way. Hidef Doppler Radar picking up rain off the coastline as the storm gets ready to move in, maybe showers developing in the north bay later on this afternoon. You see it coming in our direction a little kicker on the back side maybe a little area of low pressure developing right about here. That may be just enough to push the system on through. So today, expect the clouds now and increasing throughout the day, showers developing in the north bay later on this afternoon. But the sunshine to return this weekend. Heres the system right now just off the coastline as it moves on in. It will bring with it that chance of rain developing in the north bay this afternoon. Around the state the further north you go the better chance you will see some raindrops. Lets time it out on our computer model now. You can see the showers sliding across the north bay this afternoon. Maybe a third of an inch of rain up to the north. Lesser amounts to the south. And then it looks like well dry out and clear out your skies the better part of saturday. Temperatures a lot of 70s in the south bay, 60s along the coastline, a lot of 70s into the east bay. And the north bay cooler because of those clouds moving in and a chance of showers. Next couple of days return to sunshine for the weekend next chance of rain, elizabeth, will come on monday. Reporter Hazel Sanchez on the network now appealing to a growing trend. Reporter cbs is changing the choices you have to watch your favorite shows at home or now on a mobile device. Its called cbs all access an Internet Streaming Service that allows you to watch live Cbs Television programming plus countless episodes from current and past shows on demand. Viewers can do all of this without having to pay for a bundle of channels on cable or on satellite. The new cbs Digital Service will cost subscribers 5. 99 a month. Its the first time a traditional america is providing a near live feed of its local affiliates programming over the internet. Subscribers to cbs all access will be able to watch news and other shows live in progress on local cbs stations in 14 of the largest markets around the country and soon more affiliates will join the mix. The youngest son of Vice President joe biden has been discharged from the military after failing a drug test. The wall street journal reports hunter biden tested positive for cocaine. His discharge from the navy reserve happened in february but details are just now being released. The 44yearold failed a drug test less than a year after he started working as a Public Affairs officer. So far the Vice President has no comment. San Francisco Police have arrested a man they say shot at a pedestrian during a road rage incident this summer. 25yearold chang was charged tuesday with attempted homicide. Police say he failed to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk near the panhandle this past summer when the pedestrian yelled at chang, he reportedly shot at him. The man suffered critical injuries but survived. Chang is due in court today for an arraignment. Theres now a truce between tech workers and neighborhood kids in San Francisco after a long battle over a soccer field. Kpix 5s cate caugiran has more on the solution. Reporter sorry, adults.
