Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he wont accept any truce that wont allow israel to destroy the network of tunnels. He says hamas used it to attack israel. Israel is being criticized for attacking a United Nations refugee camp inside gaza. The white house condemned the shelling but has not assigned blame. We would underscore the importance of a full and prompt investigation to determine the facts. More than 1300 palestinians have been killed in the past 3 1 2 weeks. About 50 israelis have died. Originally though, mayor quan was pushing for a contract with Waste Management that would have raised rates 50 . The rate hike is going to pay for a new curbside bulk pickup to cut down on Illegal Dumping on things like furniture and mattresses. City Officials Say its time to pay more. Oakland residents havent seen a rate increase in 15 years even as gas prices rose. The winning bidder California Waste Solutions with a 10year proposal 5 million cheaper than waste manage mens bid but that decision still caused handwringing at city hall. What the staff conceived as a process they called the cone of integrity felt to me like a cone of secrecy. Reporter city officials spent three years and a Million Dollars in consulting fees and only got two bidders for that garbage contract. The examiner reports there is a deal for assisted Living Company age song to operate the University Mound ladies home. That means the building wont become a private school. The first one in the clerge stages, its westbound 8 in the clearing stages, its westbound 80 approaching the maze off to the right shoulder but busy there. A new one reported at gilman this one blocking lanes. So you can see traffic very slow and go lots of red, speeds in the teens at some spots so heads up there. 880 moving along pretty decently through oakland. And then this weekend those temperatures start to come down. Central valley youre talking triple digits into sacramento and also fresno. Watch out still for a couple of thunderstorms popping up over the sierra nevada. Computer models showing you some low clouds and fog along the coastline not handling the high clouds very well this morning but i think well see a few of those high clouds drift overhead throughout the day today. Temperaturewise, well still see some 80s and 90s into the south bay. 60s along the coastline. Upper 90s well inland this afternoon. Then you have some 60s and 70s just inside the bay. Reporter the camp is the brainchild of chuck who noticed the palo altos media center truck had sat idle for years. He took care of that by teaching tweens and teens everything from shooting camera to directing and some of of these summer campers eventually graduate into volunteer workers and they love it. When you tell kids youre going to sportscasting camp what do they say . They say oh, i think i want to go to this camp, its probably fun. Really fun because you get to set up and take down cameras. He is running reporter its blacktop football today but by weeks end all 12 campers will actually produce their own sports show and come the fall that was also the last time that gun went to the cts play offs. Reporter some may be working on local high school games. Mc sports has produced over 30 local games. But these kids admit, they have some work to do. How difficult is it to be a camera person . They are doing some of the play byplay. It was one week last year. They went three weeks this year. And the final week they get a grant from East Palo Alto so the kids went for free. It is 6 30. We begin with some breaking news now from Santa Clara County where there is a search for a missing hiker on Mount Hamilton. She is identified as 61year old Christina Puckett. Her husband says the two of them were hiking in grant ranch park yesterday evening. Says they became separated at 7 30 last evening and reported it at 2 30 this morning. Searchandrescue will begin a search at sunup. The san jose Police Department is adding this, a drone to their air fleet. Kpix 5s betty yu reports police say they will use it strictly for bombdetection. Reporter its the bomb squads latest crimefighting tool. The san jose Police Department says its the first in the bay area to buy a drone similar to this one, with federal grant money. The 8,000 purchase revealed in documents obtained by vice magazines motherboard. The reason . Thank you. 6 35. What began as a typical San Francisco car theft took a strange turn captured on surveillance video. The video shows a red truck zooming past. Fast forward about 30 seconds and another truck is seen leaving a parking space. Then the red truck quickly backed into that spot smashing the car behind it. The red truck then took off. Police say the driver had just stolen the truck from a construction site and hit several other cars as he made his escape. They say the thief eventually stopped near San Francisco city hall and tried to run. But a nearby fire crew tackled him and held him down until Police Officers arrived. A lot of san jose firefighters were called to a house fire on hampshire place. Yesterdays fire went to 5 alarms. It destroyed one home and damaged the one next door. The homeowner found out there was a problem when their alarm went off. Thats because a firefighter broke a window to get inside. It is 6 36. Some developing news out of west africa. Several schools and borders in liberia have been closed as the deadly ebola virus spreads uncontrollably. David begnaud reports 1300 people are sick and more than 700 have died. Reporter the outbreak of ebola in west africa led to an ominous prediction. This is a global pandemic. Our government has declared this now as a humanitarian crisis that is above the control of the government. Reporter some 340 u. S. Peace corps volunteers have been evacuated from three west african countries out of an abundance of caution. Two of the groups volunteers had contact with someone who died. And now they are being monitored. Two american missionaries, dr. Keith brantly and Nancy Writebol are in serious condition but improving after they were diagnosed while volunteering in liberia. Nancys husband told the church Group Holding vigil for her in North Carolina last night she is doing better. She is sitting up and she was talking with us and she is able to move about. Reporter ebola is spread through direct contact with an infected person. Symptoms can take weeks to appear. The particular strain thats going through africa right now has been reported to be killing about 60 of the people that are infected. The economists are looking for a gain of somewhere between 225 and 235,000 jobs in the july jobs report which comes down tomorrow. Yelp turned a profit for the First Time Since its ipo in 2012. The San Franciscobased Online Review site earned 2. 7 million in the 2nd quarter. That compared to a loss of almost 880,000 a year earlier. Its revenue is up to 60 to 88 million. Healthy growth in reviews, the number of users up 27 to 138 million. But its stock is falling this morning because its local business account growth didnt quite meet expectations. Reporter last week, the city council rezoned 879 acres of mostly open land around that new bart stop dubbing it an innovation district. There will be 4,000 new relatively affordable homes, and enough room for 12,000 new jobs. Combined with topnotch Public Schools in one of the safest big cities in america. Its going to make sure people look at fremont and actually consider it a viable place to locate their business to come to fremont to live, to educate their kids and to basically have a great time. Looks like actually those two accidents have been completely cleared off the freeway. Also south of there this trouble spot near industrial now in the clearing stages. But again youre backed up well beyond 92 through hayward through there.
