There must be 15 fire trucks out here and sheriffs and police and the air tankers and the helicopters. They did a great job. Some families were evacuated. Workers at the near ibm Research Center also were evacuated. Crews saved a couple of homes briefly threatened and theres no word yet on what started the fire yesterday afternoon. This is the scene at los lagos golf course. The flames got a bit close to the fifth tee box but the golfers were allowed to play through. No one was hurt. The fire is under investigation. Thats due to the high fire danger. Investigators believe that illegal fireworks are to blame for a fire in Castro Valley on friday. Neighbors heard a loud boom felt houses shake and saw flames shooting 20 feet into the air. It is likely Officials Say that somebody threw fireworks from a passing car over a sound barrier along 580. That was put out in a matter of minutes limiting damage. Fireworks are illegal unless you have safe and sane fireworks in alameda county. And we are asking people to not use illegal fireworks obviously for these very reasons because this could have been much worse. Reporter now, here in Santa Clara County gilroy is the only city where safe and sane fireworks can be used. Whats more, you have to be a resident of gilroy to purchase the fireworks. You can only use them in gilroy. All fireworks are illegal elsewhere in Santa Clara County. Deputies here in the Santa Clara County will also be out in force on tried with stepped up patrols looking for fireworks violations. And fireworks are also illegal in the city of San Francisco. They are illegal everywhere in marin county. They are illegal everywhere in Contra Costa County. There are a few other cities that allow these types of sales. But you better check your regulations. Big rigs are still allowed to use 580 until we hear otherwise. In the meantime, the delays right around that Marina Boulevard exit thats what we are starting to see the backups and you can see it where that bottleneck is there just behind the 98th avenue overcrossing. Once you clear past that scene everything looks okay. And gosh, it almost looks like my camera, they may have just reopened that far right lane. Well check it. The drive times have been holding relatively steady since the accident happened around 4 30 but i would still use 580 as an alternate as a much better option until they clear the scene. And it is backed up now into the macarthur maze, 6 17, its typical, metering lights have been on now for a half hour slowing from the approaches, as well. Looks like westbound 580 sluggish from 24. San mateo bridge there was an accident reported on the flat section of westbound 92. We cant see it in our camera. Theres no delay to the drive time but chp is telling us the slow lane is still blocked on the way to the peninsula and westbound 580 delays begin early this morning out of tracy because of some overnight roadwork still out there in the opposite direction. A Traffic Alert travel advisory is still in effect for the northbound lanes. But all lanes are back open. That accident investigation is wrapped up northbound 880 just before the 98th avenue exit. But the Traffic Alert travel advisory still is in effect while these delays continue. Still slow from at least the davis street exit. You can see some of the delays if you are coming northbound. This is a live look just past the accident scene. So the drive times have definitely cleared up. It says only 17 minutes right now between 238 and the maze. But again, we are still seeing some slower speeds especially in san leandro. The accident is right there on the san leandrooakland border. And chp tells us the big rigs are still allowed to use 580 until they say otherwise. They are waiting for some of those delays to kind of die down. Heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Still youre backed up through the maze typical for 6 35 a. M. The metering lights were switched on at 5 46 so some of the approaches are slowing especially 580. The plan hinges on a day pass which costs five bucks for adults, 2. 50 for youth and seniors. Riders can buy with cash and ride all day with no transfers needed or they can use the clipper card and activate the day pass automatically. Single ride fares will not change. And starting today, there is a fare increase for the golden gate transit riders crossing the bay. The cost of riding a ferry up 50 cents for a regular ticket, for clipper card holders its 25cent increase. Golden gate bus fares increase from 25 to 50 cents depending on the length of the trip. Local fares within marin county stay the same. A highspeed chase ended with a crash that shut down a san jose interchange for hours. The man who was being chased survived the car crash. But kpix 5s joe vazquez reports, what he did next came as a shock to everyone. Reporter family members told a sheriffs deputy that their loved one, the man driving this white car, was suicidal. After a short police pursuit, the man eventually crashed into an suv here next to the northbound 101 ramp at tully road. The suv rolled over, causing minor injuries to the two people inside. A sheriffs deputy not involved in the original chase stopped to render aid but the man walked around to the back of his car, popped the trunk, pulled out a rifle and then shot himself in the head. Earlier in the day family members told the cops that the man had left a suicide note and was believed to be walking a trail at santa teresa county park. Deputies with the santa clara Sheriffs Department says thats where they found the man east dog. Thats where they found the mans dog. The specific case involves hobby lobby, an oklahomabased chain of craft stores. The court decided companies controlled by just a few people dont have to provide contraceptive coverage if it violates the ownerses religious briefs. What the Supreme Court said is that families do not give up their religious freedom when they open a family business.
