You will see 60s and 70s inside the bay. Still mostly sunny inland. Those temperatures running up into the 70s and the low 80s. Out the door we go. We have a lot of clouds over the bay bridge. There afternoon cloudy at the beaches 50s and 60s. Inside the bay more sunshine temperatures 77 in san jose. 79 in the napa valley. Developing news in San Francisco. Searchers are trying to find a teenager swept into the pacific ocean. Kpix 5s anne makovec joins us with the latest on the search and the rescues of the mittsing teens father and cousin. Reporter several hours have passed by this point. The water is cold in the low 50s as far as degrees. So this boy did not have a wet sued. Its not looking good. Firefighters still here at ocean beach and the coast guard has been coming to the water with a boat. The full search resumes at first light. This is the scene yesterday after three males ended up in the water at around 3 45. They were pulled out into the ocean by a strong rip current. The father of one of the boys was in the water and flagged down a surfer who towed in one boy first. I turned back around. I dont know if the father was breathing but he was definitely cautious and so i asked him if he seen his dad he said no. That surfer rescued the father paramedics began to work on the man and one of the boys but the other boy who is the mans son was never found. He has been identified as 14 yearold marco. The search resumes this morning. Back to you. Anne, how about the conditions of the two sent to the hospital . Reporter they were not in good shape when they left ocean beach. The one for missing malaysian passenger plane. A few hours ago, search crews detected another under water signal. This is the latest in a series of audio signals detected deep in the indian ocean. They are the types of signals that would come from a flight data recorder. Crews have again narrowed down the search zone but are running out of time. The plane disappeared more than a month ago so the black box batteries will soon expire. We have developing news from San Francisco. Gridlock chokes city streets until very early this morning. Kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is in the newsroom with the bridge trouble that brought traffic to a halt. Reporter mark, the repairs on the pothole that started it all didnt wrap up until a few hours ago and bay area drivers this morning are hoping that repair is permanent because this is what one pothole on the bay bridge during traffic commute during the giants games traffic or commute, rather, can do. It was complete gridlock. The pothole pain was felt down to sfo. The damage was reported around 7 00 last night so drivers we spoke with had to get comfy. This traffic is horrendous. I have been stuck in traffic every time i have gone to a game and every time i had to use the restroom within 10 minutes of being in the traffic. I hit the horn once because of a driver wanting to get in front of me and decided in the middle of traffic even though we had to go over a lane he hopped in front of me out of nowhere. Reporter caltrans says the pothole was about 2 feet long and a foot wide. Three eastbound lane, two westbound lanes were closed so that emergency repairs could take place. All lanes were opened just as the repairs were complete about 2 30 this morning much longer than caltrains anticipated, midnight projection. What a mess, cate. Do we have any idea what caused that pothole. Reporter unfortunately no. Caltrans says they are not sure. All they know is bay area drivers are certainly hoping that more potholes dont pop up again. A navy ship took eric and Charlotte Kaufman to san diego along with their 1 and 3year old girls. The rescue crew is also back home here in the bay area. Four members of the California AirNational Guards 129th rescue wing jumped out of an airplane to get to the families disabled sailboat. They spent four days aboard and got the family on the navy ship that took them to san diego. At the at the end of the day for us it was just like a training jump that we do. We go through all the same procedures. Im glad i was picked to go. Its always happy when we can bring back live souls. The seas were so rough some members of the rescue team became sea sick aboard the sailboat. More people have become sick on a princess cruise ship that was in San Francisco earlier this week. 66 passengers and 17 crew members are now ill and isolated in their cabins. They are believed to be infected by norovirus. The ship is at the final destination of santa barbara. Passengers were screened before allowed off the ship. Hillary clinton will be at San Jose State University tonight part of her west coast tour. She has been getting a lot of questions about a possible run for president. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of causing a crash that killed a child at a Daycare Center. Investigators say the man was driving an suv that hit another vehicle which in turn plowed into a Daycare Center in winter park, florida. His vehicle was found abandoned after yesterdays crash and the search for him continues. A girl died at a hospital, 14 other kids were injured. It was about an hour there where i didnt know [ pause ] there were about 50 kids in the Daycare Center at the time of the crash. There may be a fast track for the congestion on highway 101 in Silicon Valley. A toll lane that runs from southern Silicon Valley to san mateo. Transportation leaders are moving ahead with plans to install toll lanes along 101. The price would depend on the time of day. How about the people stuck in lanes who cant afford it . A lot of fog out there now getting reports of delays at sfo of almost an hour now due to low cloud cover out there this morning, something we are going to see more of the next few days, very thick tomorrow. Right now though we have cloudy skies in most spots except concord and livermore into the Fairfield Area nice and clear there but still cloudy and drizzly out toward the coastline. The winds that sea breeze kicking in more of a westerly component to the winds so thats just enough to bring with it the cooler temperatures today and, of course, plenty of low clouds and fog. The good news is that is going to break up and just like summertime it is going to pull back to the coastline where it will sit all day and most of the bay area looking at sunshine and more clouds and cooler temperatures on the way for friday as low pressure approaching the bay area and you can see it just off the coastline. The full scale search is set to resume again at first light. Coast guard boats a helicopter and San Francisco firefighters on extended ladders looked for 14yearold marco in the dark rough surf well into the night. Obviously as time goes by, they didnt have wet suits on, he is in trouble. Reporter at around 3 45, he and another boy were playing in the strong rip current near lincoln way when they got pulled out into the ocean. His father was also in the freezing water and flagged down 17yearold surfer tony barbero. I saw a boy out there arms flailing, but probably just playing in the water, screamed at his dad and then the dad ends up pointing to me and pointing back to the son. Reporter the st. Ignatius student and son of a San Francisco fire captain towed in one boy and then i turned back around, i see the dad still out there but he is bobbing in the water not breathing well, i dont know if he was breathing but he was definitely unconscious and so i asked him [ indiscernible ] no. Reporter tony hauled that grown man in and paramedics began cpr reviving the victims vitals barely. Back out here live now at ocean beach you can see the sign. Its very dangerous to get in the water especially when youre not experienced here at ocean beach with the rip currents factor. Its also very cold. And its been so nice tempting to get in the water but its dangerous. Doesnt take long, one little wave knocks you down and pulls you out. We have some cool air thats moving onshore right now. We have some fog out there, as well. And some drizzle developing especially near the coastline. We are going to see more of that the next couple of days. So looks like our air conditioner that sea breeze has kicked in and that is cooling down the temperatures all around the bay area today. Really headed back more toward normal for this time of year. Well still find some sunshine and 60s and 70s inside the bay. 50s and 60s and cool with clouds toward the coastline. He allegedly used two knives with blades up to 10 lon to slash and stab 21 students and a Security Guard. New this morning a report says russia withheld information that might have prevented last years deadly Boston Marathon bombings. The New York Times reports russia told the fbi in 2011 that one of the brothers suspected in the attack was a follower of radical islam but russia declined several requests for more details. Certainly good news from the Labor Department regarding first time weekly unemployment claims falling by 32,000 down to 300,000. That is the lowest level since may of 2007. The fourweek average fell by a smaller number at 316,000. Thats the Second Lowest level since the end of the recession five years ago. We have seen job pickups over the past two months a little better than we did in december. And were hoping to keep seeing that happen throughout the Spring Season as it goes on. Good news once you get past 680 traffic flows nicely to the Castro Valley y. Heres a live look in the south bay. Northbound 101 you can see it is our problem spot this morning coming from 280. The delays begin around capitol expressway. We had that earlier accident old oakland road. It may still be there causing a visual distraction slowing down drivers again no lanes are blocked but you can see all that slow traffic especially as you approach the 280 interchange. The sensors suddenly turned to the red ones. Those are the ones below 25 miles per hour. Heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. It is stacked up into the macarthur maze. So youre looking at probably 20, maybe 25 minutes now just to get on the span. But they did clear that earlier crash in berkeley. And heres a live look at the nimitz freeway now northbound and southbound 880 still moving at the speed limit out of hayward and out of downtown oakland. And mass transit still no problems. And then more clouds even some mid to highlevel clouds into friday with some cooler temperatures. High pressure weakening and we have this low off the coastline bringing more clouds tomorrow. So this afternoon, you get away from the beaches, you should see plenty of sunshine. And heating up into the Central Valley. 84 degrees in sacramento. About 90 in fresno today. High country 82 degrees in yosemite and 66 degrees in the monterey bay. Clouds flirting with the coastline never leave. So going to see more of that and then here come high clouds likely to scoot across our skies tonight and tomorrow. That will combine keeping temperatures cooler friday and saturday. Well, this weeks three alarm fire in West San Jose has renewed discussion about Fire Department boundary drops. Thats how Fire Departments deploy crews and equipment to major incidents. As kiet do reports, it is all about location. Reporter the eichler home that burned to ashes earlier this week was fully engulfed in a matter of minutes. That taken together with the houses location makes this a good time to talk about so called boundary drops. Its a World Without borders. Reporter a boundary drop, when theres a major incidents the boundaries go away. It doesnt matter if you are a city or county firefighter, whoever is closest goes. The fire on mossberg circle was about 100 yards inside the San Jose City limits. We have compiled a map using publicly available 911 dispatch data. By the time the third alarm hit, the san jose Fire Department had drawn crews from its own station shown in green including station 17 about 10 miles away. However, Santa Clara County fire stations shown in red did not send any crews to fight the flames even though some of them like the sunnyoaks station were only three miles away. He and another boy were playing in the water when they were pulled out into the ocean by a strong rip current. The father of one of the boys was also in the water and flagged down a surfer who towed in one of the boys first. I turned back around. I see the dad still out there but he is bobbing in the water. I dont know if he is breathing but he was unconscious and so i asked him if [ indiscernible ] like no. Reporter he then rescued that man and paramedics began to work on the two but the other boy who is actually the mans son, was never found. He is 14 years old. The plan this morning from the u. S.
