Not only that the cold temperatures is expected a high of only 2 degrees in minneapolis today. 7 degrees in chicago. Only 14 in new york city. To go along with that though weve got some very strong winds. So a windchill warning up for much of those areas as well as thats going to make the skin freeze in a matter of minutes. Now this has been a wild couple of days for all these airlines. 19 canceled flights here at sfo in total yesterday. Many of those chicagobound. And many passengers have to waitdays now the for waitdays now for their next flight. Theres nothing i can do. I suggested to family to a different state but they cant do it. Reporter frank right now were talking about more than a million americans that are out of work that are no longer getting the unemployment checks. Today lawmakers will battle it out to extend those benefits for at least three more months. The senate is expected to hold a test vote today on a bill that would restart unemployment payments to more than a million americans whose checks have been cut off. Benefits for people out of work for more than six months expired last month. Democrats need five republicans to vote with them to move the bill forward. Senator jack reid cosponsored the legislation says the payments go to people who badly need them. They need it. To pay rent, the buy groceries to buy groceries, to keep the boiler running. Reporter republicans say theyre not opposed to renewing the benefits but they want the bill to include spending cuts to pay the 6. 5 billion tab. This bill borrows every penny of it. Just a total violation of promised fiscal responsibility. Reporter the Obama Administration supports the bill as is. White house economist Gene Sperling argues congress exteched the extended the benefits many times before without offsetting cuts. 14 of the last 17 times in 20 years that its been extended theres been no strings attached. That could rise to 3 by the end of the year and that would be the fastest pace since 2004. On the job creation front, we should pick up to about 225,000 jobs per month. That would be up from the 175,000 to 190,000 month weve seen over the last few years. Unemployment should drop from the 7 were at right now. If what about assets like the homes and our investment . Reporter you know, housing especially there in the bay area just had an amazing year in 2013. So i think 2014 we should expect that the pace of those price gains will slow down. Probably the mid Single Digits this year. Thats due to higher Mortgage Rates and an increase in inventory. And of course after a year when u. S. Stocks sored by soared by more than 30 . There are very few who are predicting a similar result for 2014. Here are the two cases. The bulls say individual investors are still sitting on trillions of dollars of cash. That could push indexes up by 8 or so this year. Bears say uhhuh, no way. Fed is reducing its stimulus and Interest Rates are slowly rising, thats going to make it a tough year for stock and bond investors. All right, jill. So what could go wrong . If the central bank reduces its bond purchases too quickly, the economy could falter and investors could be spooked.
