The storm is moving east dropping snow and rain and holiday travelers getting worried. Its going to be very interesting week. Reporter according to aaa more than 43 Million People will travel this thanksgiving. Bad weather already canceled hundreds of flights in the southwest. Forecasters say air travel will be trickdy along the east coast over the next few days. Cbs news travel editor Peter Greenberg says to avoid delays people flying need to try to leave early. Some of the airlines are actually insent vising them saying well give you a 50 bonus. Just leave now because its going to get bad. Reporter most people will drive. Some are choosing to get off the roadways and hit the rails. The railroad is a little bit more immune to some of the weather conditions that can peak driving or flying or other modes of transportation a little bit more of a hassle. Reporter forecasters say conditions will improve just in time for an easier trip back home. The snarl airport . San jose is projecting a 5 increase in passengers from this tim hats year. Here at sfo and oakland officials there project up to a 2 increase. But if you are going to be traveling through the big metro areas you could expect some big time delays. Now for a look at the travel forecast, over to Lawrence Karnow in the weather center. I dont think the timing could be much worse for the people traveling especially the eastern seaboard. You can see the storm system working its way out of the deep south yesterday and you can see a lot of moisture and a lot of cold air on the backside of it now but now working through atlanta and right through parts of the eastern seaboard now to the north. You have some very heavy snow and some places maybe more than a foot of snow. You have lots of rain out toward the coastline and the south. So it is going to be a mess as we head in toward tomorrow. Still a clear start to the day at sfo. No delays expected there. So far with just checking for the latest delays and nothing right now. But that will likely change as we head throughout the day. Rain of course going to be heavy in atlanta. Mostly sunny into denver and houston youre looking at some rain there as well and new york some showers but that will likely be picking up into tomorrow expect heavy rain there. And it looks like in the western half, well, looks like they could actually see some snow. Out over the bay right now weve got a couple of high clouds drifting overhead. Otherwise the temperatures not as bad as yesterday. 30s and 40s in most spots and i think by the afternoon the numbers will be mild and youll see temperatures running up again well into the 60s inland. Kit do has an update from the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley from some of the where some of the victims were taken. Reporter as you mentioned some of them ended up here at Eden Medical Center. Witnesses describe quite a scene out there last night. Kids saw one man get shot in the neck with blood spraying out there. Witnesses were very upset that the neighborhood was witness to that type of violence. It was 6 00. Dinner time at 96th avenue and olive street and east oakland. Barbecue was underway when a gunman sprayed 10 to 15 rounds into the crowd. A bystander named isabel hit the ground at the first shot. I tried to run back in the store. When they did that i heard the gunshots and i hit the ground. And the bullet went straight through my ponytail. Right through your hair . Yeah. Reporter the motive of the shooting is unclear. Seven people were injured all between the ages of 23 and 31. Its not clear if the men knew each other or were specifically targeted. Even oaklands interim police chief came out to see for himself. The chief says five out of their six crime response units have been assigned to east oakland. The more violent part of town. And he says crime for the most part is down. They want to replace 25,000 meters with new ones the agency would also like to buy 10,000 more but some are afraid the additional meters will replace free parking. Last year the city collected more than 53 million from parking meters the highest in a decade. San franciscos City Attorney has filed a pro preliminary injunction in an effort to prevent city college of San Francisco from losing accreditation. The injunction filed yesterday calls for a delay on a decision by the accrediting commission. The city of San Francisco has filed a civil suit against the commission alleging conflict of interest and politically motivated retaliation. Lieutenant governor newsome wants more attention paid to Community Colleges and the State University system. Newsome commissioned a report on the schools that will be released later today. A teacher heard the puppy barking in the storm drain behind her school ten days ago. But rescue crews couldnt find it until yesterday. Well, it took ten workers and a robot with a special camera to locate the pup. They then set a trap and caught the puppy hours later. Bringing him to safety. The puppy was hungry but should be fine.
