Reporter congressional leaders left the white house last night without a deal to end the Government Shutdown, now entering its third day. Its all focused on obamacare. Thats all its about. Reporter a new cbs news poll shows 72 of those polled disagree with shutting down the government over the Affordable Care act. With more americans blaming the gop for the impasse than the president and Senate Democrats. But House Republicans are standing their ground saying any new budget agreement must include changes to the president s healthcare law. All were asking for here is a discussion and fairness for the American People under obamacare. Reporter democrats say they will negotiate but only after the house passes a temporary budget with no strings attached. With neither side showing any sign of giving in, the estimated 800,000 federal workers now furloughed are bracing for what could be an extended period without pay. My honey do list gets longer. Union leaders recommended it but ac transit workers rejected their latest contract offer. The tentative agreement calls for a 9. 5 pay raise over the next 3 years. Workers said thats not good enough. I think it reflects deep grievances about concessions given in the past, economic ground that was lost when times were tough, and for many workers, not making up enough of that ground. The Union Members also rejected a previous offer in august. Leaders said they will meet soon to discuss their next move. A San Francisco murder suspect was carrying a gun and was not afraid to show it. Prosecutors say Surveillance Video shows the suspect openly holding a gun on a muni train last week. Reporter before the feds shut it downcourt documents say ulbrichts billiondollar website called the silk road sold illegal services from fireworks to fake ids to hit men. In fact, the feds say ulbricht did hire a man to kill anyone who threatened to extort him. The fbi says the site was hidden away in something called the deep web, a part of the internet most of us have never heard of. Returning a new indictment filed against ulbricht. In another case feds accuse him of hiring another hit man to kill one of ulbrichts employees. The hit man was an undercover cop. Ulbricht is expected back in Court Tomorrow for a bail hearing. How does a tech savvy guy like this get caught in the first place . Reporter well, frank, even a mastermind makes mistakes. The feds say ulbricht got caught in part because he used his own name while asking questions about running the site on a public message board. Okay. The laptop contained medical records, other private files and some Social Security numbers. 3500 patients could be affected. They will be getting notifications letters. A spike in auto burglaries in palo alto has prompted police to step up patrols and urge the public to protect their vehicles. Officers say thieves hit 61 vehicles last month. Thats the highest total for one month since 2008. Officers dealt with 261 auto burglaries in the first nine months of the year. In 2012, police had 239 cases and the year before, 229. When a church bus blew a tire on a tennessee roadway, what followed was a deadly crash involving a tractor trailer. Investigators believe the bus driver lost control on i40 and crossed the median crashing into the tractor and an suv. More than a dozen people were hurt and at least 8 people died. Some of those killed were Senior Citizens from a North Carolina church. Part of the investigation, the tennessee Highway Patrol says they will look at the bus drivers driving history as well as any other possible mechanical failures that might have contributed to the crash. Its your choice whether you want to pay more each month and less for copays and deductibles, or less and risk youll pay more when you need care. Theres another plan, too, that covered california will be offering. Its a catastrophic plan for people under 30. Its very low minimal coverage. Reporter you know, number one, there is no Affordable Care insurance card. Beware. The Better Business bureau has issued a warning that con artists are trying to lure people into providing Social Security numbers or Bank Account Numbers so they can send you what they are calling a new insurance card. Well, unlike medicare, there are no obamacare cards. Another thing to watch out for, the healthcare act created a designated breed of advisors. They are known as navigators. They generally work at places like the united way and local agencies and they are supposed to help the public sign up for coverage. Well, imposters are now calling and emailing posing as navigators trying to steal your identity or sell you phony Health Insurance. Remember, nobody from the government will call you, email you or show up to your house. If one of these posers appears, hang up, hit delete or shut the door. I guess seniors are probably the most vulnerable targets, right . Reporter absolutely. The federal trade Commission Reports that medicarerelated complaints have skyrocketed from about 100 in january to over 2100 last month. One new trick has the scammers saying, you need a new medical card under the new law. This is 100 false please warn your older friends and relatives, they do not need new medicare cards.
