Until tomorrow morning. A Massive Wildfire near yoes threatening hundreds of structures shut down highway 120 a gateway to the park. There is good news elsewhere in the state. The american fire in Placer County and the sweets fire in butte county up north are nearly full containment right now. Hundreds of firefighters are still working on the rim fire near yosemite that forced 200 seniors to evacuate camps run by cities of San Francisco and san jose. The fire is 15 square miles big and threatening 2500 buildings and people are getting out. Its terrifying how unpredictable it is and how fast its moving. I dont know what to think anymore really. I have 50 years of memorabilia and its very difficult to choose what to take so mostly pictures. So far, two homes and five buildings have burned and the fire has jumped highway 120 as it inches to to grow. The american fire in Placer County is even bigger than the rim fire. Its burned more than 15,000 acres in the Tahoe National forest not far from the community of foresthill. 62 containment there. And the swedes fire in butte county 90 contained. All evacuation orders in the oroville area have been lifted. A military Training Exercise sparked a fire in Alameda County around 1 30 yesterday afternoon at camp parks in dublin and was contained about 3 hours later. Juliette goodrich explains how it all began with a smoke grenade. Over the dublin grade you could see the smoke. Reporter thick smoke filled the trivalley as a fastmoving fire charred the dry hills of camp parks. It was a close call for neighbors living near the military training grounds like joleen green. Did you know it was close to your house . What i heard it was at camp parks my heart started racing because i knew at that point it was too close for comfort more me. Reporter residents are used to seeing controlled burns at camp parks but when the fire started moving dangerously close to their homes they knew it was out of control. Air and Ground Support raced to put out the fire that just so happened to be on a red flag warning day. And hours after thousands of dry lightning strikes were seen overnight. But the cause of this fire wasnt from mother nature. It was from a military smoke grenade like this one going off at camp parks. Part of normal Training Exercises that went awry. Still see some flames, you guys,. Reporter while the 170acre fire stayed within camp parks boundaries, residents are still shaken to learn military Training Exercises such alarm. We had some dry air kind of move into the bay area but we have that low spinning off the coastline so things are going to stay unsettled once again and theres a chance we could see a few more thunderstorms. So be careful outside right now. You can see on our hidef Doppler Radar, its a quite the beginning to the morning. There are no rain returns at all so keeping you quiet early on but that may change throughout the day. We have some patchy fog to speak of near the coastline. Temperatures in the 50s now and the 60s. That low continues to spin off the coastline. In fact, its going to slowly track north over the next 24 hours. Red flag warnings continuing in the north bay because of that. 70s and 80s inside the bay, 80s in the valleys. So cooler today. With some 60s at the coastline. Lets check the roads with elizabeth. Thank you, lawrence. We are just getting word of Emergency Repair work down in the south bay in san jose, some connector ramps around the 280 880 interchange are closed for construction work. There is roadwork that may still be in lanes approaching fifth but otherwise things are typical for this time of the morning. In the meantime, back to you. 4 35 now. A man is beaten unconscious at oaklands frank ogawa plaza. The victim telling kpix 5s Christin Ayers it was a city worker in uniform who was throwing the punches. Just seems like the wild west out here that the rules of normal society dont apply here. Reporter josh daniel didnt used to feel that way about oakland but early sunday morning here in frank ogawa plaza, that all changed. Without even really thinking i just spitmy gum into a trash bin. Reporter he was not expecting to get a reaction least of all from a couple of uniformed public works employees on duty cleaning up the plaza and didnt want him using their trash bin. They start just saying basically like saying, you know, you dont belong here, get out of here, were going to beat your ass and at that point, i reached for my phone and started filming the incident. Reporter daniel says one of the men became incensed and attacked. Comes over and just smacks the phone out of my hand hard and right at that moment grabs my shirt collar with his left hand and starts pounding me with his right hand. Reporter the man beat daniels until he blacked out. When he woke up, dan yelled was covered in blood. 10 stitches and then some derma bond which is like a super glue stuff under my eye and fracture under the eye. Reporter police are investigating but daniels and oakland activists known at city hall for his love of local politics worries this incident has changed him. It really is hard to not get cynical here. Reporter we were unable to confirm exactly what happened to the public works employees. The mayor has made no comment and the Oakland Police department will only say they are investigating. In oakland, Christin Ayers, kpix 5. Daniels says his cell phone was gone when he woke up so the video he had recorded was lost, as well. A marin county jury took just 8 hours to find joseph naso guilty of killing four women. The women were prostitutes. The first was murdered in 1977 and the last in 1994. Naso dumped their bodies in three different counties. The 79yearold defended himself. He was arrested three years ago after a gruesome stash of photos was found in his reno apartment. The pictures were of partially nude dead or unconscious women. Naso also had a list of 10 women and 10 locations. Not all the women on the list have been found. The brother of one of the victims spoke yesterday after the verdict. Jump off a bridge, go kill yourself, just save us some time and money. Just finish it. Just get it finished. Naso is eligible for the death penalty. His sentencing phase begins september 4. San francisco is demanding nevada pay for dumping mentally ill patients back here in california. The City Attorney says 500 patients have been discharged from a nevada hospital since 2008 and just given one way bus tickets to california. He is threatening to sue unless the city is reimbursed. It costs San Francisco a half Million Dollars to treat and house those patients. Around the bay area now on this wednesday, napa county is reporting its first case of the west nile virus for the year. 65yearold man out of the hospital now has recovered from the west nile virus meningitis. That area of low pressure weakening somewhat is still spinning off the coastline so theres a chance it could give rise to thunderstorms today and tomorrow as well see this system slowly work its way into the north bay so going to keep things unsettled. Red flag warnings remaining in effect in the north bay because we could see some of that dry lightning. You have a lot of dry grass out there as well with a possibility of thunderstorms. Not a good combination. Watching out for that until 3a around the bay area today, well see those temperatures a little cooler about 80 degrees still warm in san jose. 88 in morgan hill. About 66 in Half Moon Bay and 75 degrees in hayward. 88 expected in livermore. 90 in brentwood and 78 in vallejo. Inside the bay 60s and some 70s. Its the connector ramps to northbound 880 and southbound highway 17. Its emergency roadwork, we just got the alert around 4 15 this morning. So we called chp they said an accident last night caused a damage to some sand barrels in the area so they have to do road repair up there now. They say the connector ramps will be closed until 7 a. M. So it could cause a bit of a delay. Otherwise your travel times in the south bay so far clear on 101, 280 through downtown and the guadalupe parkway. Eight minutes or so between 85 and 101. So coming through the Altamont Pass looks good maybe a few brake lights through livermore. 15 minutes between the Altamont Pass and the dublin interchange. And mass transit nothing to no. Some emergency road repair an accident caused some damage to the sand barrels and now several connector ramps are closed. Northbound 280 the connector ramps to northbound 880 and southbound highway 17 closed until about 7 00 this morning. So next couple of hours for the morning drive expect some slight delays. Overall right now though the main lines of the freeway not impacted and no delay on 101, 280 or the guadalupe parkway.
