It came to rest after saturdays crash landing. The focus of the investigation of the crash will be on the pilot. Ntsb investigators will continue interviewing all four pilots today and reviewing pilot training, work histories and any incidents of pilot fatigue leading up to the crash. The ceo of Asiana Airlines is expected to arrive in San Francisco later today. Were learning more about the final seconds of the decent. Joe vasquez with more. Reporter as asiana flight 214 on approach 17 miles from sfo, the engines were working and no indications of any problems. Until the final seconds when the crew began to realize the plane was dramatically slowing down going about 40 Miles Per Hour when they should have been. At 7 seconds before impact, a member of the flight crew called for the pilot to speed up. 4 seconds before the controls started to shake. The pilot tried to change his mind about 1. 5 seconds before the crash. He tried to abort the landing but it was too late. Oh, my god. Oh, its an accident. The tail hit the ground first. The lower portion of the tail is in the rocks at the sea wall. There is also debris from the sea wall located several hundred feet up the run way. Take a close look at this amateur video shot by a teenager staying at a hotel. You can see the emergency slides begin to inflate and passengers immediately scramble off the burning plane. We now know there were problems during the evacuation. Two of the emergency slides inflated inside the plane. Had to hand flight attendants an axe. The two girls who died were seated in the real of the plane and thrown outside. They are now investigating the possibility a Fire Department ran one of the girls over. Still not clear whether she was still alive when that happened. San Francisco Police are now investigating this incident. They are examining the tires of all the fire trucks that responded out here on saturday to find out what caused that accident. Meanwhile, the coroner says it could be weaks before they find out the precise cause of death. Joe vasquez, kpix 5. And the latest of the investigation. Were joined now by debra. She has the National Transportation safety board. Good morning. Lets just talk. You mentioned yesterday about the language. Was there a communication barrier . We dont believe there was a communication barrier at this point. Its english and korean speakers. Theyll be developing a transcript of that tape. Its a two hour tape. They are going to focus on the approach and landing phase. But all communications with air Traffic Control are required to be in english. I know you are going to talk to the pilots today. Four pilots. Can you take us through that process. Are all four in the room at the same time . And why wait three days after the crash . Why not talk to them as soon as possible . Thats a really good question. People expect for those things to take place. After a crash, you have people who have been up around the clock. They were trying a specific flight. Some people might have injuries and might need to be treated in the hospital hchlt and we have a process we follow. Our korean counterpart arrived on monday or im sorry on sunday. We do group interviews. We began those on monday. Were about halfway through the interview process. Everything is going well. Were getting very good cooperation and we expect to have information to report to you this information. Walk us through what the investigators, what they are going to do in the next few days. Sure. Our team is out on scene. They arrived early this morning to get to work again. Theyve been documenting the debris starting at the sea wall all the way down the run way to the wreckage. Theyve examined the engine. The engines were producing power at the time of the crash. A total station examination of the site. Were going to locate each individual part, mark it, know where it is in space. What came off first. How things might have come apart looking at the landing gear at the aircraft surfaces. Were really doing a comprehensive documentation of the team and getting excellent support from the local fba as well as the airport. Things are really moving forward. We know its important to local we get the airport up to full strength and working to do our job as quickly as possible. How long do you think it will take and how long will the fuselage be out there on the run way . Obviously, its a very big structure. And were going to have to make decisions about how its removed. We will take the parts were particularly interested in and preserve those and put those in a location where we can do further examination. But that entire structure is going to need to be moved off the property and put in a secure place so wreckage is protected. Thats going to take time and effort. Were working with Salvage Companies right now as we finish the work on scene. We have 300 seats to document when were looking at survival factors. Were working as fast as we can. All right. They had umbrellas to help shield them from all the news cameras. Were told authorities picked them up on the tarmac at sfo and shuttled them quickly over to the crown plaza hotel. The ceiling was coming down and felt like something was dragging the plane. I couldnt see because there was a wall. First responders said fuel was gushing out. Firefighters had only one way to get on to the plane quickly. Our only way up was the shoot. Thats what we did. Went right up the chute. Made her way down the isle knocking down flames with a hose and spotted elderly passengers and kids trapped between the seats. By the time we removed the final victim, the conditions were the fire was banking down on us. Heavy black smoke. I feel lucky and blessed we were able to get those people out in that time. Police officer Jim Cunningham tossed his knife up to cut off seat belts and help passengers. He held his breath and tried not to drop the passengers while coughing. I couldnt let the people be in there. They werent screaming. They were moaning and had a helpless look on their face. I wasnt going to leave them inside there. He was asked if he was a hero. A critical call goes out to the public in response to the asiana plane crash. What hospitals need desperately. No one will be driving on the bay bridge span any time soon. The one piece of good news. ,,,,,,, saturday are still int he hospital. This morning, more than two dozen people rescued from flight 214 on saturday are still in the hospital. At last check, 17 are at sf general, 6 of them in Critical Condition. Stanford had 8 patients, 1 in critical. And 3 remain in other hospitals in stable condition. They are in urgent need of blood. Opened three bay area locations on sunday. Now the center is asking for more donors. People with o negative and b types. Now another check of weather and traffic. Awesome day, huh . Should be a great day. We have fog along the coastline. That may be the weather concern and drizzle out towards the beaches. Toward the afternoon, most of the clouds are going to breakup.
