Breaking news at noon. In the last 15 minutes, we learned a jury reached the verdict in the trial of boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. This is a look outside the courtroom. Anne makovec is what bart is doing about it. Reporter it was a broken 10 section of rail that caused bart delays systemwide on may 6. The investigation is under way. Its something wrong with the rail. Reporter a lot more rail may be affected by the same problem. At this time officials wont guess how much. We are checking all the other rail we got with that batch in 2011 and we are inspecting it to make sure they dont have the same anomaly. Reporter whats worse the rail problem may have been hidden from safety tests because of barts bad weld. Employees left extra metal behind. I guess any travel can be a little bill nervewracking. Reporter but bart wants to reassure its riders. If there were to ever be a problem on the tracks the good thing is our train control system immediately sends a warning signal to the control center and trains automatically slow down. Reporter at the same time, bart is thinking of asking voters for up to 4 billion to help replace its aging rail system and that has nothing to do with this most recent problem. Police say they responded to reports of a shooting on ascot parkway yesterday morning and found him near a trailhead. A victim from the philadelphia derailment lived in the east bay. 55yearold abid gilani was an executive with wells fargo in new york and lived in walnut creek on weekends. Philadelphia federal investigators will soon speak to the engineer who controlled that amtrak train. Train reached 106 Miles Per Hour before going out of control. So spaying is when we neuter a female dog we remove their ovaries and uterus so they cant reproduce male dogs is castrated, which is where we remove the testicles. Men dont like to hear about this. [ laughter ] we like to recommend neutering females before they go into heat. Its an old wives tale to let them go through a heat cycle. If we neuter them before that happens we dont see breast cancer. How quickly do they get through the first cycle . Depending on the dog, the small dogs start anytime from 6 months. Bigger dogs might be from 7 to 10. Its a good reason to do all this, too. Yes. If you dont neuter a female dog, obviously you dont if you are breeding. But if you arent going to breed the females can get a very lethal disease with puss in the uterus which is prevented if you neuter them. Its interesting. With male dogs ucdavis did a study and we are thinking that if we can avoid neutering dogs, male dogs, we might be able to slow down any orthopedic problems as they get older so they are recommending two years. They become better pets, too, more settled down. Some dogs are sweet and have no problems until 2 years. If there are behavioral issues we neuter right away. When is the best time do it . It depends again. The small ones about 6 months. Bigger dogs, we were just talking about ucdavis waiting two years to make sure that there are less orthopedic issues. But the reasons to neuter a male dog is because as they get older the, 10 years of age they may get testicular cancer, prostate diseases and tumors all preventable. Gorgeous dog. Thank you. A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They deliberated for 14 hours over three days whether he should be sentenced it life in prison without parole or to death. This is a live picture of the courthouse. You can see all of the people gathering outside of the courthouse. The jurys decision is expected to be announced any minute now. Cbs will have a special report and well have more tonight right here on kpix 5 news at 5 00. The verdict has to be pelley this is a cbs news special report. Im scott pelley. The Boston Marathon bombing jury has returned to the courtroom with a verdict a decision whether Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will live or die. We do not know we do not know what that verdict is quite yet but we expect that we will in a few minutes. What has been going on over the last half hour or so is that the judge has been reading a very long jury form in which the jury had many, many questions to answer questions of whether there were aggravating circumstances in the bombing questions of whether there were mitigating circumstances that the defense wanted the jury to consider. Again, the question being whether tsarnaev will live or die. We have some of the results from the questions read out in court earlier, some of the more interesting ones included that the jury found that the act was depraved, that premeditation was involved, that the young victim, 8yearold martin richard, was attacked because of his youth. The jury also found that tsarnaev showed a lack of remorse and was culpable in the murder of m. I. T. Police officer sean collier who died in the days after the bombing. The jurors also agreed, however and this is important for the defense the jurors agreed that tsarnaev was influenced by his older brother. Now we are getting word from the courtroom that he has been sentenced to death on some counts. This is breaking news. Were getting word from the courtroom now that on at least
