We were trying to drive over it and go to san rafael where that big rig actually crashed this morning. We couldnt get there because the traffic is going nowhere fast. This is the accidental destination for 1800 packages bein delivered by u. P. S. It hit the median and drove along the Center Divider spilling diesel with one of its two trailers catching fire along the way just before 5 30 a. M. And the backup lasted all morning. Its terrible traffic today. Very bad. Reporter after crawling for hours, many drivers had to pull off the highway. I have been out here for a long time and i need to get to a restroom. Reporter other drivers were running out of gas and just gave up. We were trying to go to work over there but i mean its really, really packed right now and i mean its, like, whats the points of going through here i mean . Reporter the driver of this big rig is fine and an investigation will determine if he may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. No indication drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. As for the packages, u. P. S. Says they were headed to san rafael many to be distributed there, others as a pit stop along the way. U. P. S. Has liabilities up to 100 on each package. If its worth more than that it depends on the companys deal with the shippers. U. P. S. Is notifying the shippers now. Another live look at the Richmond San Rafael bridge. Once you make it over the bridge from richmond traffic is diverted on main street in san rafael. The westbound lane of 580 was actually damaged in the crash. Thats why its taking them so long to reopen this thing. They think they will have the lanes reopened by 2 p. M. Live in richmond, anne makevoc, kpix 5. The accident had a domino effect on traffic coming into San Francisco. This is what the bay bridge toll plaza looks like right now. A live picture there. Still pretty backed up for a midday commute at this hour. People are using the bay bridge of course as an alternate route to the Richmond San Rafael bridge. In hayward, a Police Chase Ends when the fleeing driver smashes into a utility pole on tennyson road causing on outage. Pg e is working on getting everything back up and running. Reporter here, you can see the damage to the power pole. According to the chp, it all started about 1 a. M. When a car evaded a traffic stop at 880 and tennyson. The chase was on. Officers followed the driver through city streets until he hit that power pole on tennyson and ruse road then the driver fled. He left a child and woman passenger behind at the crash site. They had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. At its peak, this power outage had 121 homes and businesses in the dark. And police are still looking for the driver of the car. This morning, new reports of concrete contamination at an oakland creek. East bay m. U. D. Accidentally spilled all that cement into the Glen Echo Creek in the Oakland Hills and now neighbors found a new section of that cement. They say its about 150 to 200 feet long upstream from where all the cleanup crews were working yesterday. The creek is about 3 feet wide and parts are completely covered. Officials worry that wildlife half mile on either side of the creek could be impacted. Some dead birds were already found, another was taken to a rehabilitation center. We hope not to find any more areas like this but what we have done this morning is literally start at the top from the release site and try to look at every inch of the site all the way down and take surveys but its incredibly tight areas, peoples backyards. So were going to make every effort to physically look at every open space. And the cleanup involves breaking up chunks of whats now concrete. East bay m. U. D. Thought they would be done with the work by monday. But now the cleanup will take longer. Vice President Joe Biden continues his bay area visit today raising money and also talking about the importance of job training programs. He visited pg e in oakland this morning as part of the twoday visit. Biden focused on Workforce Development and how the private sector can play an Important Role in preparing people with useful job skills. Pg e has a program that does just that. Hillary clinton expected to end the big suspense and announce a second run for president on sunday. The former secretary of state will begin her campaign with a video message on social media. She will follow that up with visits to early primary states next week. The announcement will mark clintons return to the campaign trail 7 years ago after losing the 2008 nomination. To show she can communicate on a personal level and to beat back the idea that she is inevitable. President obama and cubas president are expected to speak by telephone today. This comes ahead of a historic meeting of the two leaders at the summit of the americas in panama city. This will be the first time castro will attend. President obama could also announce cubas removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism as soon as tomorrow. Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi is tackle be problems at the San Francisco jail. Inmates are fighting each other and one inmate escaped. Im not going to shy away and were not going to retreat from the kind of actions and accountability that any one of the people in this great city would expect of us. Sheriff mirkarimi has called for an independent investigation from the department of justice and the fbi. Four deputies are on administrative leave. The sheriff wants to fire the deputy who let the inmate escape. The wife and children of Robin Williams are expected to resolve a dispute over his estate. A judge said they needed to try and come to an agreement outside of court. Late actor left his children Entertainment Memorabilia and he left his wife their home in tiburon. The memorabilia inside that home is what is in question. Lawyers from both sides will try and solve the issue before returning to court. Emergency crews are searching homes in Northern Illinois for people who still might be trapped in rubble left by a line of powerful tornadoes. One person was killed and 11 others injured. Adriana diaz is in fairdale, illinois, with the latest. Reporter residents are getting their first daylight look at the damage from two large tornadoes in Northern Illinois. [ sirens ] reporter sirens warned people to take cover around 6 00 last night. About an hour before the storm arrived in the town of rochelle, about 80 miles west of chicago. When it hits, definitely we knew it hit. We didnt know how bad. Reporter raymond and his wife rode out the storm in the basement of a restaurant. The tornado all but destroyed the building. Firefighters rescued the couple and about 10 other people an hour after the tornado plowed through. We pulled in here and ran inside got a couple of pictures of the tornado right across the street from us here and then the owners said, in the basement we went down in the basements. Reporter there are roughly 50 homes in this tiny town of fairdale. The tornado damaged or destroyed all of them sweeping some off their foundations. Fairdale does not have a siren system. A 67yearold woman was killed when her home was destroyed. Emergency crews are looking for anyone who might be trapped in the rubble. We have a couple of people that we know are not accounted for. We are working with the Fire Department on that. Reporter the tornadoes were part of a powerful line of Severe Weather that rumbled across the midwest thursday. Police say it was an accident the family of four plunged into the water by the port of los angeles yesterday. The father says he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake. Both parents managed to escape but the kids had to be rescued. The older son died in the hospital. And the 8yearold is in critical condition. Crews will be working on building a pedestrian tunnel for the New CaliforniaPacific Medical center. This weekends closure will last until early monday morning. I feel like im going to be looking down all the time. The only thing im nervous about. But i think apple, every time they get into something, they really get into it. Im thinking its comfortable. Reporter once the doors opened, the two tables featuring the apple watch were jammed. At one table customers could see all 38 versions of the watch. And at the other, customers with appointments were able to actually try on as many as they wanted. John tried on some watches and was impressed. I didnt expect that much but i really did enjoy having the watch on. It felt comfortable. It did things that i didnt realize it did.
