Reporter police just confirmed what the womans family has been saying all morning long, that she is alive and well down in Hunting Ton Beach where her parents live. Heres the picture of the woman we have been talking about all week. 29yearold Denise Huskins is a physical therapist at Kaiser Permanente in vallejo and she moved here from Southern California last summer. She has been missing since monday when her livein boyfriend called Police Reporting that she had been abducted from their home some 11 hours earlier and that somebody was demanding ransom. Police searched that home on mare island but they maintained that the boyfriend is not a suspect or person of interest in her disappearance. In another strange twist, someone claiming to be a kidnapper sent an email to the San Francisco chronicle yesterday. Reporters there say the email said denise will be returned safely on wednesday, quote, any advance on us or our associates will create a dangerous situation for denise. Wait until she is recovered and then proceed how you will. We will be ready. End quote. That email also included an audio file with what sounded like her voice referencing that plane crash that happened in france. So everybody would know that its current and personal information so people could verify that it was her. We are waiting to hear more details from police in vallejo this afternoon. Reporter her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, they all received the news early this morning that she was safe in her hometown. Now, take a listen. This is amy madison her cousin. Denise is home safe and sound. Um, which is the best possible outcome that we could have hoped for. The best news we could receive. Can you tell us what happened . You know what . At this point what i know is that she left a message for my uncle, her dad, because he couldnt get cell service. And so it was a voicemail that he got that said, daddy, im okay. They dropped me off at moms house. Shes not here. Im walking to your house. My uncle received a call from the tenant in the building. Denise is here, i have her, shes safe and im going to call 911, were going to get it checked out and the police are here and well deal with that now. Reporter notice they said they dropped her o the family is curious about what that means. But for the most part they are thrilled that she is alive searched. A lot of hugging going on inside this hotel now relieved that here is alive and safe. Reporting live joe vazquez, kpix 5. The San Jose Police officer killed in the line of duty. Officer Michael Johnson was a 14year veteran of the force shot by a mon he was trying to help. Officer johnson was 38. Kiet do has more from senter road with more information. This is the closest that we have been able to get to the scene and if you can see past these cars here, the shooting took place right at that section of brown condominiums right in front of where theres police cars. This is an active scene now going on 17 hours. Its been a long tough tragic day as officers wear black bands over their badges and they are trying to focus on this investigation and at the same time mourn of loss of one of their own. In san jose, the grieving had begun well before sunrise. A long procession of police cars followed the coroner to the morgue. By noontime a collection of flowers began to grow at the police department. During an earlymorning press conference the police chief held back tears. This is a difficult time for us as a community, department, when officers responded to a call, a welfare check, at that location and were met with gunfire. Reporter it all began before 7 00 last night. A 911 caller said there was a drunk suicidal man on the apartment at the 2600 block of senter road. Three officers arrived knowing the suspect possibly had access to weapons. They spotted a man on the balcony. He fired at least one shot and struck officer Michael Johnson in the head killing him instantly. The girl, then the guy he shot him in the head with the rifle. I just seen the mist. That was it. That was it. You heard the shot but then you seen the mist, too. But yeah, it was bad. Reporter the officers took cover and returned fire. The radio calls indicate the suspect was hit, as well. Reporter the neighborhood was evacuated and after an hours long manhunt they found the suspect dead on the balcony. He is 57yearold scott dunham and likely died during the initial gun battle. He was married. Police say there hasnt been any past history of trouble with him. A neighbor lives two doors down. From the outside, he looked like just a nice neighbor. That was it. Reporter Michael Johnson was a well liked, respected and hard working officer. Stories are emerging on social media of his humor and kindness. Our hearts, our prayers go out with the family of michael, our brother, and again, we just hope that you guys keep them in in your prayers along with his family. Again, this is very, very difficult time right now. Reporter and officer Michael Johnson leaves behind a wife. He did not have any children. He was 38. Kiet, are the evacuated neighbors allowed back to their homes now . Reporter yes. So senter road just opened up about 15 minutes ago in both directions. Thank you, kiet. The last san jose officer killed in the line of duty was Jeffrey Fontana 13 years ago. He was a rookie and was 24 years old. Johnson was in the same Academy Class as fontana. Reporter recovery teams are searching for victims including two americans across a ten acre crash site in the french alps. They say retrieving the bodies their First Priority but it could take days because the plane came down in extremely steep terrain. Officials caution identifying victims will be difficult. They are leaving the staging area to search the debris field to try to figure out why the plane went down. The planes cockpit voice recorder has been found.
