Mexican restaurant. Police are looking into the possibility there was a mechanical failure. Pittsburg police say just after 8 00 the driver tried to warn other drivers. Some sort of failure in the truck. The big rig carrying gravel slammed into two other cars before hitting the restaurant and causing an inferno. The driver stuck inside. I heard an explosion. I thought somebody had ran into my house. It was loud, but it wasnt her house. It turns out Dana Leatherwood was one block away from the boom. So i just beside myself thinking of the driver. Reporter the trucks driver died in the fire. Firefighters found him in the drivers seat. No one was in the restaurant at the time. Railroad avenue is expected to remain closed for most of the day while police investigate. In a caldecott tunnel this morning drivers had to be evacuated from one of the bores after the car caught fire. Chopper 5 was over head. You can see the smoke coming from the vents. This is the right bore heading eastbound. Itcausing another accident in which another car caught fire. Drivers inside the tunnel had a frightening view. It was like putting too much lighter fluid on your barbecue. Nobody was hurt. Deputies got people out of their car and walked them out of the tunnel. The tunnel was closed for over four hours while crews made sure everything was safe. All lanes of the tunnel are back open. A taxi corianneed off interstate 680 flying about 100 feet and landing on a frontage road. A passenger in the taxi was killed. Another passenger injured. Chp says the taxi left san jose and heading to sacramento.
