A sleeping toddler. Im michelle griego. Hi, everyone. Im frank mallicoat. Lets get to breaking news. Kpix 5 reporter len ramirez is in sunnyvale where firefighters are dousing hot spots. Reporter exactly right, michelle. I can show you the firefighters from th Sunnyvale Department of publi safety, which is still burning. It was reported at 9 25 a. M. It was a massive fire. You can see from aerials and shots from the ground that two house were burning on lantana drive in sunnyvale. It became a threealarm blaze. It threatened to burn down a third home prompting one homeowner to jump on his roof with a garden hose to try and push back the advancing flames. The Fire Department does not advise doing anything like this but heres what the homeowner had to say. It was sustained, the heat coming off the neighbors house. Could you feel it. I never seen you could feel it. I never seen a fire that close in my life. It was terrifying. No idea how it started. I came out, the whole front of the house was on fire. Reporter it went fast . Very fast. Super fast. Caught the neighbors house on fire instantly. Just spread like wildfire. So i felt very lucky i think. Reporter at least one of the homes was an inhome daycare and there was at least one child involved. There was a tree crew here from wca tree trimming out of stockton, and they got down from the tree, knocked on doors, climbed through a window to warn the people inside the house that a fire was burning outside. Heres what that hero rescuer had to say. The dad and i got the baby and ran outside. I woke them up. Your house is on fire. Please get out of the house, come on, got to go, got to go reporter now, we do have some cell phone video from a resident here that shows exactly how this fire got started. It got started in the side yard between 9 45 and 9 49 lantana drive 945 and 949 lantana drive. That side yard fire went into a tree and it was some sort of a pine tree or possibly a very flammable type of tree like a cypress and that allowed the fire to get up into the roof and the attic area. Once there, according to firefighters, the fire really took off. It spread throughout the original house and the flames got so big it touched off the fire on the adjoining house. Again, firefighters are still here on this scene putting water and making sure that any hot spots do not erupt. They will be here mopping up for several hours. The investigation into how this fire actually started on the side yard of that house is still under investigation. It will be a while before firefighters make any determination on that. But this fire closed off this street, brought out a lot of neighbors. Three alarms and a lot of fire apparatus. Fortunately through all of this, no one was injured. Michelle . That is the good news. Len ramirez live in sunnyvale, thank you. And for more updates on the fire, just head to our website, kpix. Com. Kpix 5 exclusive now. You know those jammedup expressways, how about those annoying potholes everywhere . Or that train or bus you have been waiting for forever . And dont forget the bart tunnel to downtown san jose. All that traffic relief will have to wait. A half cent transportation tax that would have paid for all those transportation projects has been delayed until the 2016 election. We know when to press ahead when the opportunity is ride and, painfully, we know when to pull back and wait. Reporter the Silicon Valley Leadership Group thought there might have been enough support to put it on the ballot this november. After all, they know how to get these measures passed. The group has a perfect 50 record over the last 30 years. The groups polling shows 63 of likely voters would say yes to a transportation tax. Thats pretty close to the two thirds majority needed to past. But turnout for midterm elections is usually low so the group says to put a tax measure on the ballot this november is just too risky. The shame of having to wait is that we all lose. We all lose two more years, delayed, stuck in traffic gridlock here in Silicon Valley. And we also run the risk of not knowing what the economy is going to look like 2. 5 years from now. Reporter so when it comes time to finally vote, think about what you hate more, taxes or traffic.
