Firefighters have put out a fire at a home on Wicklow Court just east of highway 680 off alcosta boulevard. This is the scene minutes ago from chopper 5. The second level is burned. No word on injuries there. Then there was a fire in hayward at a salvage yard. Crews arrived on scene and doused the flames and there were reports of propane tanks on the lot. No word on what caused it authorities are still investigating a gun battle last night inside a home in san mateo. One person was killed and two others injured. Kpix 5s cate caugiran on what may have been a Home Invasion style robbery gone wrong. Reporter residents inside this home on the 1500 block of lodi avenue told officers three men came in and tried to rob them. The residents stated that three suspects entered the house and confronted four victims in the residence at the time. Reporter the confrontation turned into a gun battle. Police say the suspects and one of the residents shot at each other inside and outside of the home. Guns, multiple bullet holes and blood were found at the scene. Reporter when police got on scene they found the victim, a 24yearold man, shot in the shoulder. The suspects took off and about a half hour later showed up at a san jose hospital. One of the suspects was dead on arrival at the hospital and the other suspect was suffering a nonlifethreatening gunshot wound. A third suspect was located at the hospital and detained. Reporter police dont believe this was gangrelated. But they are calling this a very serious and violent incident. We know that this was not a random act and that the suspects specifically targeted this house for reasons that are not entirely clear at this time. Reporter officers are seeking out search warrants and interviewing witnesses. And they say that more arrests could be made. In san mateo, cate caugiran, kpix 5. The 24yearold victim was taken to Stanford Medical Center and is expected to be okay. Well, we now know what caused the devastating wildfire in and around Yosemite National park. U. S. Forest service says the so called rim fire was set by a hunter who allowed an illegal fire to escape. They are not releasing that hunters name at this time. Over the course of about three weeks now, the fires consumed 371 square miles, destroying 11 homes and 100 other buildings. Its now 80 contained with full containment not expected for at least a couple more weeks. Right now crews are trying to clear a big rig that flipped on to its side. It happened on the offramp to Treasure Island from the westbound lane of the bay bridge. Nobody was hurt but chp says the accident is creating quite a visual hazard. People slowing down to take a look at it. Cleanup could take another couple of hours. Lets look at the traffic outside right now. You can see that it is backed up right there on the highway. This is a live look at the new bay bridge from our Yerba Buena Island cam. Traffic is flowing smoothly on one side it looks like but on the other side its a little backed up. For the third day theres heavy midday traffic at the toll plaza. Anne makovec tells us whats slowing down the commute despite the new bridge. Reporter the reviews on the new bay bridge are in. Its beautiful. A pleasure to drive on. Reporter people are doing both those things at the same time. It was a little slow because i think people were slowing down to gawk at the bridge. Reporter that is slowing down the commute on the bridge and the approaches. On the old span you could get 9,000 to 9500 vehicles per hour westbound. The flow is now 7200 with speeds of 45 Miles Per Hour compared to the 50 Miles Per Hour speed limit. The slowdown is triggering the metering lights to turn on about 20 minutes earlier than they usually do. And there is a lot to look at when youre driving on the new span. Theres the beautiful tower, the old bridge on the side which looks like a relic these days, and the bike path, as well. You got a few drivers driving slowly and its a domino effected and goes all the way back. Reporter the pattern has changed since the new span opened. The backup used to form on the left side of the toll plaza. Now we are seeing the opposite, this after caltrans took away one middle fastrak lane and added it to the right 880 side. The chp says theres not much they can do. Stay calm. Youll get to where youre going and eventually im sure this backup will start to get better. Reporter and judging from this mornings commute it already has. Better than yesterday and the day before. Reporter on Yerba Buena Island, anne makovec, kpix 5. The chp expects a lot of people to use the new bike and pedestrian path this weekend. If it gets too crowded, they plan to add a metering system to that, as well. The bike and pedestrian path along the new eastern span of the bay bridge is so popular these first three days, theres a new push now to expand it all the way to san francisco. Right now you can access it from emeryville or oakland and get most of the way to Yerba Buena Island. The next step is to finish it to the island. No timetable yet for extending it to san francisco. The price tag, though, is big, a half billion dollars. Another milestone today for bay area transportation. This time at the transbay transit center. Here in san francisco, crews began pouring the first concrete for the foundation shortly after a ceremony was held at the site. Its the First Permanent part of the facility thats scheduled to open in about four years. Fremont police are releasing an image of a woman who used a snake scam to rob a homeowner. The woman posed as an animal control officer. She got one victim to go into her backyard to look for snakes. Her accomplices then went in the front and stole cash and jewels. There were similar snake scams last week in san mateo and burlingame. Also in burlingame, two men got a driver to pull over claiming she had a flat tire. One of them stole her wallet right out of her car. And in napa, police are warning people not to fall for a scam involving fundraising for a police dare program. Also burglars hit a san carlos home when the owner was lured up a ladder to check the roof. In other bay area headlines now on this thursday, googles attorneys set to appear at a federal hearing today in san jose. They are arguing the companys practice of electronically scanning peoples gmail accounts to target advertising is legal. Google is asking a judge to toss out a lawsuit seeking to stop the practice. The class action suit says google is in violation of californias privacy laws and federal wiretapping statutes. Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire this morning at a 7eleven store near santa clara university. You can see much of the buildings facade was blackened in the blaze. It all started around 7 30 in the 700 block of benson near the near alameda and was under control within an hour. No one was injured. A couple of burnedout vans and charred furniture all thats left at an earlymorning fire in richmond this morning. The fire started in a van at south 9th and virginia around 2 30. Flames spread to the carport. Then on to the home. Firefighters evacuated nearby Apartment Building as a precaution. Nobody injured in the fire. And president obama arrived in russia this morning for the g20 summit. And as cbs reporter Danielle Nottingham tells us, the president s still trying to drum up International Support for a planned strike on syria. That low pressure system is actually influencing our weather here in the bay area. Just keeping our temperatures down, though. Were not having to worry about any thunderstorms for us outside. Throughout the afternoon, i think mostly sunny skies a little breezy in spots toward the coastline and through some of the mountain gaps and then some patchy fog returns to the coast tonight and inside the bay but much warmer weather on the way for tomorrow. It looks like also for the weekend. The low will kick east tomorrow so temperatures warming up. But today probably one more fairly mild day with some of these temperatures just a little bit below the average. Plan on 70s and 80s into the south bay. High as 79 and sunny in san jose. 83 in morgan hill. 69 degrees and sunshine into half moon bay. As you look toward the east bay those temperatures running in the 70s and the 80s, as well. And then inside the bay sunny skies throughout the afternoon, 75 degrees in oakland, 70 in san francisco. And about 81 in san rafael. Hey, you know what . We have a couple of games going on here.
